Though the half-moon meeting hadn't gone quite as well as he had anticipated, Bearpaw had no trouble falling right asleep once they arrived at the temporary camp. Sleep was the one constant in his life, and, above that, the one time no other cat could bother him. He valued his sleep above much of his other leisure activities - always had and always would. So, when Smokepetal's voice cut through his haze of dreams, Bearpaw wasn't particularly pleased. They'd had a long night, was it too much to ask that he be allowed a little more time to rest? Though, once he laid eyes on his mentor, he immediately understood the urgency.

The events of the night before returned to him. The dream, the talk of trading herbs...Smokepetal had gone all the way to Windclan's camp to acquire the last herb they needed for what she hoped would be a cure to the illness. Bearpaw heaved himself to his paws, somewhat regretting his previous annoyance with Smokepetal, and followed her into the messy clearing. With Thymepaw not far behind, they came to a stop in front of a mess of leaves and roots on the ground.

His narrowed gaze swept across the gathered plants, uncertainty swimming behind his eyes. Sunfire had trained him his entire life until recently to be a warrior, he'd dedicated moons to learning to fight and hunt and...well...all of that was easier than identifying the difference between stupid leaves. Luckily, Smokepetal rattled of the names of each herb before retreating to rest, leaving the rest to him and Thymepaw. Mousedung. Fighting Thunderclan was less nerve-wracking than this.

Hesitantly, Bearpaw approached the stacks of herbs and scooped up one of each, his nose twitching at the pungent scent in the air. Coneflower seeds...they were good for mild coughs and illnesses. Lavender had a calming effect or something and tormentil was good for poison? Or was it venom? He always had a hard time remembering the difference. Burdock root was for pain or something and the others...he glanced at the remaining plants, a frown set deep onto his face. He couldn't remember, exactly, but whatever. As long as there was some of each herb in every bundle, it should be fine. The lavender, however, he left out, opting to carry it separately instead.

Glancing occasionally at Sunfire, Bearpaw set out lumping the herbs together and stopped once he had four more or less neat bundles laid out in front of him. He was no master, that much was certain, but it was better than when Smokepetal had first tried to teach him. Nose crinkled, Bearpaw lifted one of the bundles in his jaws and scanned the clearing for one of his sicker clanmates. His attention landed on Falconmoon first and, obediently, his paws carried him to the gravely ill tom.

It wasn't until he set the herbs out in front of the sick tom, however, that Bearpaw caught on to the truly horrid smell emanating from him. Withholding a gag, Bearpaw nudged the collection of leaves, roots, and seeds toward Falconmoon, wishing he could press them into his nose instead to relieve himself of the stench. Whatever it was the warrior was rambling about, Bearpaw had little time for it. "Falconmoon." He meowed sternly, hoping to cut through the fog of sickness, "I need you to eat these, it'll make you feel better... Or at least smell better.

As he waited for the warrior to ingest the herbs, Bearpaw grabbed the lavender he had set aside and rolled it under his paw, crushing the petals and releasing the soothing scent into the air. Reaching out, he began to rub the plant into Falconmoon's fur, specifically around his chest. His movements were awkward, though, and Bearpaw couldn't help being tense. He was so out of his element.

Bearpaw blinked down at Falconmoon for a moment to see if he would behave and eat the herbs before quickly losing his patience and turning to scan the camp for another clanmate to help. His gaze drifted over Ambersun, then to Stormwatcher, who his attention lingered on. When he'd still been training to be a warrior, Stormwatcher had pulled him aside for private training lessons - the warrior had seen something in him worth cultivating. Ears slicked back against his skull, Bearpaw padded around Stormwatcher, giving him a wide berth, and headed towards Ambersun.

Stormwatcher was a strong warrior, one who Bearpaw had looked up to - how disappointed he must be now that he'd become a medicine cat apprentice. It was that, the fear of letting down one of his clanmates, that led Bearpaw to Ambersun's side instead of Stormwatcher's. He would have to interact with the warrior eventually, this he knew, but it was easier simply to avoid him for now. With the second bundle of herbs in his jaws and more lavender, Bearpaw stopped, step the herbs down, and pushed them towards Ambersun.
