After safely returning her apprentices to SkyClan's camp, and gathering the supplies to trade in return, Smokepetal headed back out. She hadn't been able to find Wolfblossom, and Birdstar was still incredibly sick, so they would just have to trust her on this one. If it meant getting the final herbs she needed to cure the clan, Smokepetal didn't care what it cost. She did, at least, have the foresight to take a warrior with her... except the only available warrior just to happened to be Sunfire - who had been less than pleased with her ever since Bearpaw joined the medicine den. It wasn't her fault that StarClan had chosen his apprentice to be a medicine cat, but the tom seemed to require a grudge against someone, and she didn't interact with him enough for it to be an issue.
Except for... right now, which had them trudging through ankle-deep snow together on the way to WindClan's new camp, in awkward silence. The warrior didn't seem interested in conversation, but he'd agreed to go with her without complaint, to his credit, and had even offered to carry half the herbs. It's the least he can do, after the disaster with ThunderClan, she thought as she side-eyed him discreetly, wondering how such lovely cats like Falconmoon and Graywind could have such an unlikeable sibling. Perhaps it had been Bloodstrike, Sunfire's mentor, who had soured the yellow tom. Perhaps there was just one in every litter... some elders liked to say that.
"We're almost to the border."
Sunfire's muffled voice startled her out of her thoughts, and Smokepetal slowed, sucking in a breath through her nostrils. She could barely smell the scent of WindClan over the herbs she was carrying, but sure enough, it was there. "Do you know where the camp is?"
"No. About here is where I usually stop."
Smokepetal nodded. She'd never been this far out, either... but surely they would find it, somewhere. Daisypaw would have told WindClan to expect them, right? Her ears twisted backwards, and her gait was barely faster than a walk, but she proceeded forward, anyway, and Sunfire followed.

You can’t fix the past, but you can change the future.
Sootstorm had been told by both Daisypaw and Tigerdance that they should be expecting a SkyClan patrol coming by, so when he found Smokepetal and another warrior at the border, he couldn't say he was fully surprised. He was thankful that it was him that had found them, and not a warrior that may have been looking for a fight. He put on a friendly smile and dipped his head in greeting as he approached them. "I suppose you two will want an escort to the camp?" He asked once he had gotten within hearing distance. He gave the air a brief check; it revealed only the scents of the two cats in front of him.

The two of them stuck to the lakeshore, following it as it curved around. Smokepetal didn't know where, exactly she was going, but was confident that they'd figure it out soon enough, and as a pale figure appeared from the pre-dawn darkness ahead of them, she saw Sunfire stiffen, a low growl accompanying his glower as the WindClan tom approached. Thankfully, he was quiet by the time Sootstorm made it into earshot, and Smokepetal, eager to keep things not just cordial, but friendly, stepped forward - and in front of her churlish companion - to greet him.
"Yes, that would be great," she said eagerly. "I don't know if we've met before, I'm Smokepetal. My... traveling companion is Sunfire." She wasn't about to give him the opportunity to introduce himself rudely, and he didn't seem interested in small talk, anyway, so Smokepetal continued. "Thank you for coming to collect us, I'm afraid this new territory isn't as familiar to me as the last."

You can’t fix the past, but you can change the future.
Sootstorm nodded and turned to lead the way once his offer had been accepted. "I'm Sootstorm, WindClan's deputy. A pleasure to meet you," He introduced himself simply, not missing the fact that Smokepetal had chosen to speak for the warrior instead of letting him introduce himself. Was this warrior a particularly aggressive one? He spared one glance towards the tabby tom, met the pair of burning eyes, and decided on his answer. If it had been only the medicine cat who had come forward asking to be brought to the camp, Sootstorm would have oblidged quickly, but with the presence of Sunfire, he felt that precautions had to be taken. Even if SkyClan didn't share a border with WindClan, it never hurt anyone to be a little bit more careful. And thus he picked a longer route, leading the duo to one edge of the territory first before curving back to the camp.
They arrived at the camp, and Sootstorm signalled for the two to stop outside the camp entrance. SkyClan didn't need to see how pathetic WindClan had grown. The deputy made a quick promise of being back soon, before slipping into camp and calling out for his leader and medicine cat. "Tigerdance, Daisypaw, SkyClan's come to see us," He informed them, trying to not let his nervousness show through his voice, "They're waiting outside."

Daisypaw wearily poked her head out of the medicine den at Sootstorm’s summons and felt something loosen in her chest. It was a relief that Smokepetal had made it safely. She grabbed the bundle of Burdock Root in her jaws, mindful not to puncture the careful wrapping that preserved the precious herbs from the cold. Hopefully they would survive the frigid journey back to SkyClan without losing any of their potency. The gray and white she-cat picked her way across the snow to where the SkyClan medicine cat and her escort waited, ragged pelt fluffed up pitifully against the chill.
“Smokepetal!” She purred raspily, setting the herb bundle down gently. Daisypaw dipped her head respectfully to the older molly before giving her a slow blink of gratitude. “Thank you for coming all this way, I hope the journey was kind to you.” She nudged the carefully wrapped bundle closer. “Here is the Burdock Root, as promised.”

Smokepetal raised a brow curiously as Sootstorm announced that he was the deputy, wondering what sort of change in leadership had to occur for that to happen. Last she remembered, Tigerdance had been deputy of WindClan. Was he Tigerstar now? She didn't ask, though, nor did she have to because the moment they arrived at the camp - though they were asked to wait outside - Sootstorm answered the question for her by calling out to them. Mentally filing that away to figure out later, the medicine cat sat back and patiently awaited their return, occasionally sneaking glances out of the corner of her eye at Sunfire to ensure he continued to behave.
They weren't made to wait long, as Daisypaw greeted them shortly, carrying a bundle of herbs with her. Smokepetal ducked her head politely, practically beaming at the young she-cat. "It was kind enough, thank you. I've brought your garlic, too... hopefully this is enough." She nudged her own wrapped bundle towards the apprentice. "You don't know how much this means to us, Daisypaw." Smokepetal looked over the burdock, making mental calculations in her head. It looked like a fair amount - possibly enough for everyone.
With an obvious sigh of relief, the gray tabby nodded to herself, looking up to meet the other cat's eyes. "And... I don't know who's mentoring you, Daisypaw, but if you ever need advice, please, seek me out. We're not too far, and I will share with you what I can."

Daisypaw purred at the bundle of what was clearly garlic by its distinctive scent. Maybe they finally had an answer to these dark days. Hope, bright and sharp and so foreign, licked at her ribs like flames. “It’s a generous amount, I’ll put it to good use.” She tilted her head at the older she-cat, a weak smile softening the haggard planes of her face. “I think I have some idea. We’ve got to look out for each other in times like these.” She dipped her head to Smokepetal again. “I will, thank you for everything. May fortune follow you home.”

Tigerdance as a little late to getting to the Skyclan patrol due to having to arrange something himself regarding his warriors and their temporary camp design. As soon as his name was called he quickly wrapped up his project and came over to where the group sat. The tall striped tom dipped his head in getting to the others, having to hold back a cough before he spoke.
"Thank you for bringing these by." The leader started, having caught the tail end of the interaction. "Your kindness will not be forgotten Smokepetal. If you ever need anything from Windclan, we will be glad to assist you. As long as Daisypaw has the supplies that is." He couldn't sacrifice his own clan to help another but if they had extra then he would be glad to share with any medicine cat. He didn't care what grudges clans held for each other, medicine cats sat outside the typical warrior code, and always deserved respect.
