Grub had been a bit miserable since the dog attack and foul encounter with that wind Clan. That didn't stop him from batting leaves around to entertain himself in the quiet and lonely abandoned camp site, though.

As he pounced from behind the rotten and brittle tree that stood inside the camp itself, he caught sight of a cat-like figure. Hissing and spitting in surprise, whatever slicked back hair could stand on end, did. Those clan cats were not allowed here! He'd sooner eat glass than-- Hold on. He knew that pelt. "Well, if it isn't Ajex! Thought you might get carried off by another bird. What brings you here?" Spiked fur flattened once more, though he still felt on edge. Crinkled whiskers twitched like nervous mouse as he padded closer.

Ajex had not missed the loner's nervous and almost aggressive reaction. Had Grub made an enemy of another cat? Ajex wondered briefly if he should offer to help him to chase them off-- he was quite fond of Grub, and wouldn't mind a few more fights-- but finally decided against it. Surely Grub could take care of himself? "Of course not!" He replied, putting on an act of being offended, "why, the audacity to even suggest I'd lose to a bird!" At least Grub was still acting friendly, not that Ajex cared.

"Here, I brought a gift for you," he added, pushing the pigeon towards the older tom. The tabby stretched, then allowed himself to plop down unceremoniously onto the grass. "How's everything with you?" He asked casually.

"You're too kind." Grub mused, padding closer to inspect the catch: a pigeon with barely any ruffled feathers. A very clean kill. He nodded as he flopped down just as recklessly near Ajex, inviting him to share the bird. What had he been up to? He flicked his one remaining ear. "Getting picked on left and right by those miserable clan cats. They think they own everything... Though now that they're gone, they practically own nothing." The forest had long been silent for almost a full month now. But along with that silence rarely came any prey. "Have you noticed anything... Off about the forest, Ajex? Besides the silence."

Was something the matter? Always. "A bit ago, I drank from the river that cuts through the forest. It tasted bitter, like it was tainted with something. It doesn't really effect me, but the prey seems to all but scattered. Not a single bird chirps in the area. Starting to think the clan cats have something to do with it. Poisoning the world around them, yet showing teeth to anyone who dares wander by... Charming." Most of the terrible encounters was his own fault, but Grub could never comprehend or admit to that. He was faultless.

Kittypets? He had never heard that term before. His first thought was a branch off of the clans, but that couldn't be when they had something bad to say about them. His eyes glinted. "Kittypet? What's that?" Something new to learn! It was about time. Things had grown boring, stewing in his own anger and petty thoughts. He leaned in closer to Ajex as though this was some sort of New Order come to fight against the forest. He was obviously intrigued.
