It was time for the next round of spars. Though there had been some surprising outcomes, everyone who had won had worked hard to get where they were. These next fights would be even closer than the last. Perchstar looked at the first two winners, who she had taken to begin their fight. Dovepaw had beaten his sister by the skin of his teeth, and Bubblepaw had managed to defeat his other sister Swanpaw. Who would come out on top this time? She did not know either of them well, but both had fought with skill. Hopefully they would do so again. "You both know the rules," she told them. "Ready--set--begin."
The dice determine who goes first. 1, 2, 3 = Dovepaw. 4, 5, 6 = Bubblepaw. Dice rolling....

Dovepaw squared his shoulders as he readied himself for the next battle. He was riding high on a mix of adrenaline, pride, and anxiety. He'd won the first fight! He hadn't really been expecting to, though he had hoped. And now he was going against someone he wasn't even related to. Bubblepaw--the nice she-cat he'd gone on that one rule-breaking walk with. The apprentice who'd knocked his other sister out of the tournament. He... couldn't decide how to feel about it. So, he decided to try and just focus on battling. He barely had time to offer Bubblepaw a nod before Perchstar said the words that began the fight.
Just like last time, he leapt forward immediately, trusting his quick instincts to land him the first blow. Claws remained sheathed as he jumped at Bubblepaw, intending to knock her down and gain the advantage of surprise.
Dovepaw used Jumping Strike, dealing 9 (6+3) damage and costing 7 stamina.

Walk like a majestic lion, eyes glinting with so much desire.
Bubblepaw was usually a talker, but she noticed that she was rather silent during a fight, even if it was a spar against one of her own Clanmates. Maybe it was because she knew that she wouldn't be as focused if she was in the middle of conversation. Either way, she offered her opponent a quick smile as a sign of goodwill before the battle began and Dovepaw made the first move. The apprentice gasped in shock as the tom attacked quicker than she expected. She knew she had to be sharp if she was going to win this one. She regained her balance and stretched her paws out in a quick attempt to get a few hits in.
bubblepaw used "front paw strike" + "desperate blows" on dovepaw, dealing 10 damage and costing 14 stamina.
bubblepaw hp - 11/20 sp - 46/60
dovepaw hp - 10/20 sp - 53/60

Dovepaw couldn't help but feel a little bit proud of himself when the move actually hit this time. However, the moment of achievement faded quickly when Bubblepaw retaliated, using the same swift combo of blows that Pigeonpaw had almost knocked him out with. He winced, taking the pummels, while he tried quickly to think of a retaliatory strategy. He hadn't been quite fast enough to dodge, unfortunately, but he could still fight back. After just a split second's thought, Dovepaw fought back with the same move that both his sister and his current opponent had used. He lashed out wildly, making several quick attacks to wear Bubblepaw down.
Dovepaw used Front Paw Strike and Desperate Blows, dealing 10 (6+4) damage and costing 14 (7+7) stamina.

Dovepaw was strong, but Bubblepaw wasn't ready to give up quite yet. She ducked out of the way so that most of the blows didn't hit her, and she attempted to shove her paw forward in order to snag her opponent's fur in a direct response to the attacks.
bubblepaw used "dodge and fight". front paw strike dodged, counterattack successful for 5 damage and 7 stamina.

Dovepaw's move had probably been easy to see coming. Due to that, several of his blows were dodged. Bubblepaw even managed to duck under one of his attacks and retaliate, paw moving forward to strike him down. When he felt the blow, his instincts once again took over, and he made a move that had helped him earlier in the tournament against his sister. He moved with the force and dropped to the ground. It wasn't that much of a lie to say that he was tired. This fight had been much faster and hit harder than the other. However, the very moment that Bubblepaw let her guard down, Dovepaw sprang up from beneath her, then began to pummel her with quick surprise attacks again.
Dovepaw used Play Dead, dealing 8 damage and costing 5 stamina.

Bubblepaw let herself relax once Dovepaw fell to the ground. Such a naive choice to let her guard down cost her the victory, and her eyes widened as her opponent made another barrage of attacks. She fell to the ground shortly afterward, huffing with exhaustion as she looked up at her denmate. It had been a quick battle, but it was well fought, and Bubblepaw wasn't too upset about the loss. It was only a spar after all, and it meant that RiverClan was full of capable apprentices that would be able to defend each other when the time came for a real battle.
"Nice fight." She panted, pulling herself back up to her paws and giving Dovepaw a nod. "We'll need a rematch sometime. I had no idea you were so good." As usual, everything was lighthearted to her.

The battle was over in what seemed like the blink of an eye. Several quick moves from each apprentice, and suddenly both were exhausted, but Bubblepaw was on the ground and Dovepaw was still standing. Trembling, but standing. The winner was clear. "Well fought," Perchstar commended both of the apprentices, giving them each a nod in turn. "Dovepaw, you still have one or two fights left. Take a quick break and then prepare yourself for the next spar."

Dovepaw felt his breaths heaving with exertion as he staggered back from his attacks, steeling himself for the next blow--but it didn't come. His last attack had been enough. Blinking tiredly, he met Bubblepaw's eyes, and saw that she'd fallen to the ground during his flurry rush of paw strikes. He'd won again. And this time there was no possibility of it being a fluke. Again, he felt a warm sensation taking root in his chest. "That was close," he told Bubblepaw, voice tired but good-natured. "I'd be down for a rematch some other time. Just... not today." Perchstar's voice came soon, reminding him that there was at least one more spar to go. The reminder was both terrifying and exciting. Another fight. Another chance to lose. Another chance to win. He could actually win the whole thing. He'd... never truly considered the possibility. What would he do if he won?
