"I can understand that, and it's nothing silly or selfish to want," Sootstorm purred, resting his tail reassuringly on Nectarflower's shoulder. If he was being honest, he wished that his kits wouldn't come in a time like this either. There didn't go a day where he didn't worry about the future of his kits; whether they would live to receive their warrior names, or if they would even be born at all. Surely Shadowclan and Riverclan's wrath would not stretch as far to to hurt or kill queens and kits?
But in the end, no matter how long he waited, there would always be something to cause worry. It was just a warrior's way of life. So he might as well enjoy life now, while all his loved ones were by his side.

Nectarflower looked up, somewhat more relaxed thanks to Sootstorm's reassuring words. She had been worried that he might chastise her for being so selfish - for putting her wants above the needs of the clan. However, it had been a silly thing to be worried about. Sootstorm was her mentor and closest friend, he would never be upset with her for something as insignificant as that.
A smile creeped onto the young she-cat's face before, horrified, she stiffened. Oh. She'd been really insensitive, hadn't she? Sootstorm's kits were due to come soon enough, and she'd just spouted off all of that nonsense about Windclan not being a safe place to raise kits. What had she been thinking!
She noticed the look on the older warrior's face and her tail drooped. "I don't mean to imply that your kits won't be safe..." This was ridiculous, she was talking in circles now. Suddenly determined, Nectarflower met Sootstorm's gaze. "They'll probably be the safest cats in the world with you, me, and the rest of the clan looking after them!" Besides, all cats of the clans followed the code - nobody would hurt, much less kill, a kit or even an apprentice.

"I'm sure my kits will be safe. I trust Windclan with my life," Sootstorm purred. Nectarflower was right; no harm could possibly come to his kits, not while he still stood here. And if he wasn't, if he was lost to the unmerciful death, he knew with all his heart that the rest of the Clan would step up to provide the best possible life for his kits. They always did, for him and Aspenpaw, for Nectarflower, for every kit that had lost their parents. Everything would be just fine in the end.
