Nectarflower was an energetic cat, and as such, she usually woke up early in the morning with boundless energy. Today was no exception so, after Sootstorm, her former mentor, had asked her to join him for a hunt yesterday, she had gladly agreed. Now, she was sitting just outside of the camp, her tail tip twitching with excitement.

She hadn't gotten a chance to spend time with Sootstorm since becoming a warrior, so she was looking forward to it! Ferntwist had been right, though, about having less time to herself as a warrior. She was sent on more patrol, more tasks, more everything than when she was just an apprentice.

Not that she minded it...it was just an adjustment. Plus, it made those moments where she could relax all the sweeter. Like finding time to collect new flowers or making bundles. Lately, she hadn't had much time for that, though.

Feeling a little antsy, Nectarflower kneaded the dirt beneath her, ears pricked for any sign of Sootstorm. She wondered if he would be bringing Ferntwist with him?

Those two had grown very close as of late and even she could see the fondness between them. She was happy for them - it was good that her friends were accepting their feelings for each other.

Even if it made her feel a little excluded. It was still good.

The young tortoiseshell warrior smiled as her former mentor appeared, her green eyes brightening with excitement."Oh! It's okay! I just woke up a little early." She glanced over at the brown and white tom, a little curious. He'd been spending time with Ferntwist, huh? It was about time she ask about what's going on there.

Maybe later, though, for now, she needed to focus on their little hunting party of two. So, with a flick of her tail, Nectarflower nodded and padded after Sootstorm. "Sure thing! I'm looking forward to stretching my legs."

As they walked, she took in the sights, particularly the bright blue sky and big fluffy clouds floating high above. The breeze was refreshing after several scorching hot days in a row and Nectarflower was happy for it.

The moor was peaceful so far, so the young she-cat turned her attention to Sootstorm. "Soooo..." She drawled. "What's going on with you and Ferntwist? You two seem awfullyyy close as of late." She smirked teasingly at the older warrior, her whiskers twitching with amusement.

They might as well make some small talk since there didn't seem to be any prey around right now. Besides, there was always time to hunt later.

Nectarflower didn't miss the happy aura that radiated from Sootstorm. He acted like an entirely new cat than the one she knew as a young apprentice. So she wasn't surprised at all to hear that he and Ferntwist had made things official. She was, however, shocked to find out that they had been mates for three whole moons!

Stars! And they were already expecting kits! This was amazing! Surprising, but definitely good! A purr rumbled in the tortoise shell's throat and she nudged Sootstorm with her shoulder, a wide smile on her face.

"Sootstorm! I- that's wonderful! I'm so happy for you both!"

Her tail whisked gleefully through the grass, paws light as feathers. He wanted her opinion about what to name their kits? She felt honored! Eyes bright, Nectarflower nodded. Young kits would certainly liven things up.

"I think it's good! Oh, if I had kits, I'd name them after Windclan. Lots of things I'd find out here on the moor. Honestly, she would probably name her kits - if she ever had any - after flowers or flower related things.

Nectarflower perked up at Sootstorm's suggestion, a purr working it's way up from her chest. Rabbitkit was a wonderful name! She nodded, pure enthusiasm glittering in her eyes. "It's perfect, Ferntwist will love it!" Just like the rabbits that lived on the moor, Sootstorm and Ferntwist's kits would be fast like the wind.

Stars! Maybe she would be chosen to mentor one of them - that would be amazing! Her best friend and her mentor's kit being her very first apprentice sounded like a dream come true. She basically felt like a part of the family already.

"Goodness, do you have any idea how many kits Ferntwist will have? Has she seen Batsong about it yet?" Nectarflower couldn't hide her excitement - she was just so happy for Sootstorm! This was exactly what she needed to brighten up her day!

She would have to collect the finest down for Ferntwist's nest in the nursery! Only the best for her best friend after all. Oh, and the kits would need plenty of things to play with! Surely, her little collection of feathers would do nicely for them.

Her thoughts whirled, carrying her from one idea to the next like wind through a valley. Nectarflower had never particularly cared for kits, but now, she was ecstatic.

Nectarflower flinched at Sootstorm's exclamation, her ears twisting back at the volume of his voice. She rushed forward, her eyes wide from Sootstorm's outburst. She had never seen him so worried, much less so frightened before. Even with the threat of Shadowclan looming over them.

Woah, hey! Its gonna be okay." Nectarflower laid her tail over Sootstorm's shoulder, her expression genuine. "I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. Just take Ferntwist to get checked out, as a precautionary measure, yeah?" She mewed softly.

The young warrior understood his fears to a certain extent, but she was certain everything would be okay. There had been no signs of anything dangerous that she'd noticed and Fernteist was a strong cat.

Nothing bad would happen to her as long as she had the reat of Windclan to lean on. And Nectarflower for one wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon.

She looked back at Sootstorm, a gentle smile on her face. "So deep breaths, okay?"

Nectarflower's tensed muscles relaxed as Sootstorm seemed to calm down. She peered cautiously at him, waiting to see if he truly had recovered from his temporary bout of anxiety. Once it was clear he had calmed down, she returned his smile, fur lying flat once more. However, she didn't expect what came next.

She laughed softly at his question, surprised that he was concerned at all with what was going on with her love life. She considered his question for a moment before shrugging. She hadn't really had her eye on any cat in particular. Not romantically anyway. "Erm...no, not really." The only cats she really spent time with were him, Ferntwist and...Weaselfoot sometimes.

"Well..." She trailed off, uncertain, before eventually continuing."I have gotten to know Weaselfoot a lot more recently. He's actually...really nice." Maybe a bit rough around the edges, but certainly a good cat and an even better friend.

Nectarflower's face warmed as she slowly realized what she had said. "W-What I mean is...uh, he's a very good friend!" She started walking faster to avoid Sootstorm's gaze, her fur bristling slightly with embarrassment. "Nothing weird like you and Ferntwist." Nectarflower didn't know if she would ever love a cat like Sootstorm and Ferntwist loved each other.

It seemed so personal and so permeant to love a cat like that. To love someone enough to dedicate the rest of your life to them or to have kits with them. She shook her head. That just didn't seem to be the future Starclan had in mind for her. Surely, if she was destined to fall in love, she would have already met them.

Windclan wasn't a particularly large clan, she'd met everyone there was to meet.

Nectarflower narrowed her eyes, uncertain. She knew that Sootstorm was right. Having a mate and kits was a beautiful thing - it just wasn't for her yet. Maybe later, when everything with Shadowclan and Riverclan calmed down. Right now, however, she wouldn't feel comfortable taking a mate much less bringing kits into Windclan. Not until it was safer anyway, but maybe someday.

Admittedly, the life of a warrior would never be safe. There was illness and death around every rock, but there would eventually be a day where Windclan and Shadowclan weren't at war and that would be enough.

The young warrior shook her head at Sootstorm's response, realizing that her words had come out all wrong. "It's not that a don't ever want a mate, I just don't want all of that right now. She shrugged. "I want my kits to grow up in a safe version of Windclan. Not while we're constantly battling the other clans."

Was that too much to ask? Was it unreasonable to want to raise a family somewhere safe where there wasn't a risk of being attacked and killed in your own home? Maybe so. A warrior's life was dangerous, but it came with its rewards.
