gone fishin' [open to RC]

Just as Wolfblossom had suggested, Grub followed the river out of SkyClan territory, his yellow gaze set across the rushing water. So, the patch of land he'd traveled from the farm to SkyClan had been this RiverClan, huh? Strange how he hadn't run into a single cat. Maybe they didn't use man-made pathways, or maybe he had just been very lucky.

Just as he neared the pile of rocks that looked to be perfectly heated up by the mid-day sun, something moving beneath the water cause his eye: a fish. The sight of it reminded his stomach that he hadn't eaten since his departure from the farm hours ago. Looks like it was time for lunch! Though he'd never been very good at fishing, what was there to lose?

Leaning over the rivers edge, he watched the shimmering scales for the perfect moment... Splash! A grimy paw swiped a fish up and out of the water directly onto the river bank. A quick bite to its head put it out, and he began to indulge in this fishy meal.

Grub is attempting to catch a fish... Success!

Owlpaw had noticed that Larkpaw had wondered off on his own, blue eyes watching the form slowly move away before the brown tom followed suit. He didn't want to risk anything happening to the other tom while he didn't have back up, not to mention he did have an agreement with Larkpaw about assisting each other. Even if it was just meant for training, he still didn't feel comfortable about the tom being on his own.

And it was a good thing Owlpaw wasn't far behind. The appearance of a rogue wasn't lost on the apprentice. It was a risk for the clan and their prey, as well as a dangerous opponent for Larkpaw.  He couldn't just leave the other to perform this fight on his own. The large brown tom quickly charged forward slotting in beside Larpaw front claws lashing out at the rogue.

Sprucebark tilted his head a bit confused as splashing could be heard nearby. When the sound turned to cats fighting he felt a twist in his stomach of dread... what now? He worried running towards the sound.


He frowned seeing two apprentices beating up some loner rouge.

"What is going on?"

he glanced around noting the fish that was half eaten now. "hmm a prey thief hum?"

He tapped his paw on the ground anxiously. All his training hadn't told him what in the world he was supposed to do when two apprentices were busy beating a loner silly for eating a fish. What a weird start to the day this was.

He thought back to what perchstar had told him... not every case could be covered by rules... right... instinct he muttered to himself. Instinct was hard to follow for him. He preferred the structure of things much better being the orderly cat he was.

But beating a loner silly just cause they did not know the way of the clans did not seem to be the right thing to do. He wished that perchstar was here, she would know what to do.

"let him up. He might not have even known" he reasoned to his younger clanmates who were busy smacking the poor loner and putting his head under water.


"Besides maybe he is just passing through" he thought back to poppyshines story of feeding a fish to softfall. IF she could feed a fish to someone who used to be a sworn enemy, then a little fish here to this stranger rouge was not the end of the world maybe.


It used to have been that he would have joined in attacking the loner because the code said no prey stealing. But over time with lessons from poppy and perch he was trying not to see everything as so polarizing good and bad.

"Lets at least here what he has to say."

He gave a gentle shove to Larkpaw but enough to let the apprentice know this was non-negotiable to let the loner's head at least come back up above the water. A drowned cat was a waste of life. He had learned that the very hard way when his sister was taken by the river. Being so close to the water was putting him on edge and he was frankly disappointed in larkpaw for using such a move, even if on
a prey thief.

For now however he turned his attention towards the loner in question.

"sorry about the young ones ... Mr. Was drowning loners what the kids found to be fun now days? When had the clan gotten this way? He made a mental note to have a talking with this lark fellow later.

"Now then, Mr. , you must understand that what you are fishing on is our lands.
I am going to assume the best that you just did not know the rules"

Perhaps you are just passing through and got hungry? Well I suppose at this point you can keep what you caught... spruce glanced down at the half eaten fish sticking his tongue out a little in disgust at the slimy chew marks.

seeing as how no one else would want that now he thought.

The first monch of the delicious fish was accompanied by something slamming into his side, pushing him into the river and dunking his head in all the way up to his ears! Gasping and coughing as his head resurfaced, it took him longer than he would have liked to admit to realize the water only came up to his stomach where he stood. A secondary assault had claws raked against his shoulder in an annoying needle-like way, earning a hiss for whoever had hit him while he was already down.

Blindly splashing his way to land, he heard someone meow "Sorry about the young ones ... Mr." Young ones...? Blinking the water from his eye, he finally saw the two small figures that were bristling at the shore he had climbed up on. Ah. Was he getting bullied by children? He could feel his ears growing hot with embarrassment.

Shaking the water off his pelt and splashing the younger party, Grub bounced back into the role of a carefree wanderer. He'd tend to the scratches later, but these strangers didn't need to know he felt any sort of shame about getting dunked on by a loose child. He stuck his tongue out at the both of them before turning to the older one. "Please, Mr. was my fathers name. Call me Grub." He flashed a toothy grin. "You're lands...? This must be the Rivered Clan the lady down the river mentioned. Quite comfortable. You've got great taste."

His eyes glanced at the fish with a singular bite out of it that was now slowly floating down the river. What a shame. He'd poke around for it later, when it was the forests gremlins bedtime. "You mention rules, but why would those apply to a wanderer? Why should I starve when prey runs rampant here?"

Owlpaw was agitated to say the least. He didn't quite agree with Sprucebark's approach, but maybe there was some benefit in asking questions first, not that he saw it. The brown tom's gaze narrowed into a glare. He had to agree with Larkpaw because the scent markers were there. They knew the risks of crossing into territory and.. well..

"You knew the scent markers were there, any cat worth their tail would know what scent markers mean." Owlpaw said flatly. "Anyone who crosses the border knows what the risks are, even without knowing out rules."
