Subject: Tinykit's Apprentice Ceremony Mon 8 May 2023 - 17:38
Poppyshine
The last of Perchstar’s children was ready to be apprenticed. No doubt the leader was happy to no longer be restrained to the nursery for most hours of the day. Poppyshine also felt pride for her friend’s kits. They had a lot in store for them, being apprentices, and she wanted to make sure each of them were cared for.
She lifted herself up onto the Willow Branch and announced, ”Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting!” Her eyes watched the nursery for little Tinykit so she could indicate that it was indeed his ceremony that she was calling for.
Tinykit had been playing with a ball of moss outside the nursery, and his ears pricked when he heard Poppyshine's summons. He met her gaze, realizing with a jolt that it was finally time for his ceremony. He quickly got up and padded toward the Willow Branch, his pale blue eyes shining with excitement.
With Tinykit at the ready, Poppyshine offered him a small smile and began the ceremony proper. She announced, “Tinykit, you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Tinypaw.” Just like with his sisters, Poppyshine and Perchstar had discussed the best option for Tinypaw’s mentor. Poppyshine was looking after two of Perchstar’s children and Stormdance had the third. They wanted to make sure that Tinypaw was well looked-after, and so they came to an agreement pretty quickly. “Your mentor shall be Stormdance; may he teach you everything he has learned in his moons as a senior warrior.”
Perchstar waved her tail once behind her as she watched her last kit become an apprentice. It would be strange to not sleep with them in the nursery anymore--but just as much as she was unsure what this new phase of life would look like, she was ready to move on. She knew they were, too. Tinypaw had always been the youngest and smallest, but he was just as strong as any other cat. Hopefully Stormdance would train him well. She gave her only son a nod of approval as he touched noses with his mentor. He was ready for this.
Stormdance stepped forward when Poppyshine called his name. He had experience before in mentoring more than one apprentice, having both Woolywing and Rowansong at the same time when, just like now, Riverclan had more apprentices than warriors. He was honored to be trusted with this responsibility, especially with two of Perchstar’s children, and he would do his best to ensure Tinypaw received all the care and training he needed to flourish into a warrior.
Giving Tinypaw a soft smile, Stormdance leaned down to touch their noses. “Congratulations,” He told him warmly. “We’ll get started first thing tomorrow.”
