Badgerkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Smallbean shook out his pelt, annoyed at the day's dreary weather. A light, persisting sprinkle had humidified the air, causing his pelt to fluff up larger than he was used to. Perhaps it would make him look as tall as Shrikestar, he pondered, as he stood on the Tallrock. He only lingered there for a moment before raising his voice, calling out to the clan once again. "All cats old enough to run the moors gather around the Tallrock for a clan meeting!" Many kits from the nursery had been becoming apprentices recently, he observed, trying to remember which kits remained, although he couldn't recall them by name. As he thought, he let his gaze fall to the nursery's entrance, awaiting the appearance of the kit as the rest of the clan accumulated beneath him.

As the clan was called together, Badgerkit padded out of the nursery trying to look like a sensible apprentice and not a moon old kit. She chose a spot near the tallrock and sat down waiting for the ceremony to start. I wonder who my mentor will be. She thought as more cats gathered around the tallrock.

"Badgerkit, you have now reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From now until you become a warrior, you will be known as Badgerpaw. Your mentor will be Mudshriek."

As the announcement was made, Badgerpaw became an apprentice, her eyes shone as she was made an apprentice. As she looked across the clearing to Mudshriek she thought, I hope he's a nice mentor. She had never really interacted with Mudshriek but she had seen him going out on patrols but generally kept out of the warrior's way.
