Rosekit blinked bright blue eyes as she stepped into the warm sunlight outside the nursery. At five months old, she was already two thirds her mother's size. Her clanmates often commented at her large size, but this didn't bother Rosekit in the slightest. Her mother had told her that as long as she trained hard, Rosekit would be able to use her size to her advantage. With this in mind, Rosekit left her siblings playing by the nursery, and wandered close to the center of the Skyclan camp, hoping to find an off-duty apprentice or warrior kind enough to show her some moves.

Lionpaw was carrying a comically large rat into camp. He wasn't a small apprentice, but the rat was a particularly large one and he had to waddle with it dragging between his forepaws. He dropped it onto the fresh kill pile and stared at it for a moment, proud of his work. Some movement caught his eye to the left by the nursery. A kit had wandered out, almost apprentice aged. Lionpaw stared, unsure of what to say or do. He hadn't been out of the nursery that long himself.
He turned and took a step back toward the forest, hesitated, then finally changed direction and moved toward the kit. They were sort of similar in appearance, long fur with patterns and white. He nodded once in greeting and purred softly, though he didn't exactly have a plan here.
"Hi!" He mewed happily before he stopped a tail length away. "I'm Lionpaw. You look like you're almost six moons... or maybe you are six moons?" She was kinda... big. Lionpaw himself wasn't a little guy per se, but he definitely noticed the size of the younger she-cat. His liquid amber eyes glanced back to his mentor and saw that they were in no hurry to be back out on patrol. He'd take some time out to talk to this kit then. Why not?

Birdstar
Quietly, Birdstar made her way toward the fresh-kill pile, dropping off the pair of robins hanging between her jaws. They were both of good size, plump from the fast return of worms and crawling bugs to the woods. Lionpaw ahead of her had just dropped off a rat that was nearly as big as he was. Looking over the recent catches, the large she-cat sighed contentedly. There was no shortage of stressors in the forest… but on a warm day like today, refreshed by a good hunt, it was hard to think about them.
Turning, she was about to find a spot to settle down for a moment when she spotted one of the older kits wandering through the heart of camp. Lionpaw had even shuffled over to join her. Birdstar watched the pair for a moment before deciding to pad over, tail waving as she settled a little ways off. "Almost six moons," she mewed, nodding towards the kit. Most of the kits born after her and her siblings were small, at least by SkyClan's standards; it was good, in an amusing way, to look at Rosekit and think the calico might rival her in size one day. "And I'm sure you're looking forward to that day, Rosekit."

In her wanderings, Rosekit saw a patrol bringing in freshkill. She watched as a newer-looking apprentice dropped an enormous rat on the freshkill pile, then wandered over. As he introduced himself, Rosekit noted with amusement up-and-down he gave her.
"Nice to meet you Lionpaw! I'm Rosekit!" she replied, pleased to be approached so soon after leaving the nursery. "That's such a big rat that you caught, it must've been difficult to catch!"
As she spoke with Lionpaw, Rosekit noticed a massive she-cat approaching behind him. With wide eyes, she realized that it was none other but the leader of Skyclan herself! Shocked, Rosekit listened politely to Birdstar as she spoke. She'd never been approached by the leader of Skyclan before, but knew her well from watching her interact with the clan's warriors.
Her voice squeaking slightly, Rosekit nodded and replied, "I can't wait to become an apprentice! I want to become a strong and brave warrior, just like you!" She beamed up at Birdstar, trying to ignore the urge to self-consciously lick her chest fur.

Lionpaw smiled at Rosekit. What a nice name! He stole a glance into the nursery, curious as to which one was her mother, but he didn't ask. He was about to tell her the story of his rat, though it wasn't really that amazing since all it did was squeak and try to reach around to bite him as it died, but then Birdstar approached and he blinked in surprise. He thought for just a moment he was going to be told he needed to not goof around, but she seemed content to just speak to the both of them.
At Rosekit's response, Lionpaw's lips twitched into a slight smile. He remembered thinking like that once... long before Starclan took his parents. He did his best to stay positive and not dwell, but it was little things like that that stole just a sliver of joy from his life a little bit at a time every day.
It wasn't Rosekit's concern though, nor would he make it hers.
"Being an apprentice isn't so bad." Lionpaw said with a shrug. "Getting up early isn't fun... but that's been the worst of it for me so far." Lionpaw paused and tried to think back to when he was still stuck in the nursery all of the time. He remembered being bored and eagerly awaiting some adventures outside of camp.
He wanted to show her the little bit that he knew, but he was feeling self conscious with Birdstar here now. What if he gave her the wrong advice? What if he didn't demonstrate something well? No... no he'd better just keep the mentoring to actual warriors. That was when an idea struck him and his eyes lit up.
"Birdstar, I know you're not my mentor but... could I get advice on how to hunt in the trees? I'm still struggling a little." The truth was, Lionpaw was getting the hang of hunting in the trees just fine, but he couldn't imagine Rosekit didn't want to hear something like that. If it brightened her day a bit, then why not? He didn't mind looking like he was struggling.

Coming back into camp, Celandinepaw was curious to see Birdstar and Lionpaw (she had seen him around) speaking to what seemed to be a young apprentice...wait, was that an apprentice? She observed the other cat more closely and determined that she must have been mistaken. That was a kit. They were larger than average but still a kit. She almost walked over to them but remembered that she still had to drop off the moss she had gathered at the medicine cat den.
After her task was done, Celandinepaw returned to the area the three were at and finally joined them.
"Hello everyone," she greeted cheerily, stopping for a moment to give Birdstar a respectful dip of her head. She then offered them all a friendly smile. "Can I join you guys? I've just finished another one of my chores for the day," she explained. She turned to speak to the kit, "I'm Celandinepaw. I'm a new apprentice!" Her brown eyes glittered. "You have a lovely pelt. What's your name?"

Stormwatcher narrowed his eyes looking over at all the cats gathering around nearby. Huh what was going on? He wondered for only a second before shrugging with a yawn, well whatever it was he didnt really care. He was not one to care in general unless it directly effected him. He curled back up into his spot trying to drift back to sleep but their voices were so loud and distracting.
Did his clanmates ever know how to relax? It appeared not to be so. He heard something lion said about getting up to early which was about the first time he could think of he ever related to any of these clanmates of his...
The lazy tom rolled over doing his best to drone out the rest of them

Birdstar
An amused purr rolled out of Birdstar at the kit’s enthusiasm, right along with a satisfied nod. “And I’m sure you’ll be a fine warrior when the day comes.” She gave a quiet chuff as Lionpaw spoke, too. You’d think the early mornings got easier. Even though she was awake by dawn every day, she never seemed to handle the first hours well.
Tilting her head, she mewed, “I don’t have to be your mentor to train you. You seemed fine earlier, though.” She was already getting back to her paws as she spoke, taking care to stretch out each leg and shake out her pelt. Before she could settle on where to start, Celandinepaw came padding up to the group. “Hello. I’m about to show Lionpaw and Rosekit some better form for hunting in the branches. You’re welcome to join.” Birdstar mewed, tail flicking to invite her closer.
She turned away, looking between the faces of each of them, when a lump of fur beyond them caught her attention. A sparkle of mischief flashed through her eyes, and Birdstar gestured with her tail in the tabby’s direction. “Imagine he’s a squirrel,” she whispered to keep from disturbing him. Her legs folded beneath her, body settling familiarly into a balanced crouch. “It’s important to keep steady. Naturally, it’s more unstable when you’re in the trees. Branches shift with your weight, with the wind– they buck, sometimes hard. It’s not as easy as hunting on the ground.”
To demonstrate, Birdstar forced a stagger, paws rocking slightly before quickly re-stabilizing, and her path forward was smooth as she stalked past the apprentices. Her tail streamed out behind her, further steadying her. “Use your tail as a rudder. It’ll make your balance even better. And then,” Birdstar’s whiskers quivered with kittish excitement. “When you’re close enough and you’ve managed not to fall out of the tree, leap– not too high or far, but leap. Hook it with your claws and bite the back of its neck.” Muscles bunching, she raised her voice suddenly to call, “Stormwatcher! Heads up!” Then Birdstar sprang straight forward, throwing herself into the large tabby’s side. Large paws planted firmly on his shoulders, and Birdstar looked towards the gaggle of young cats spectating. “Obviously, I won’t be snapping Stormwatcher’s neck, but he makes for a useful demonstration.”

Rosekit beamed back at Lionpaw. He seemed nice, and not much older than her. Many apprentices seemed eager to prove they didn't have time for kits, but Lionpaw didn't seem to care about all that. Rosekit found herself bouncing slightly despite her attempts to dampen her excitement; she didn't want to scare Lionpaw off.
As she listened to him ask Birdstar about tree hunting, Rosekit noticed Lionpaw shuffling slightly. Perhaps he was nervous asking the leader for help? She didn't blame him: the mere presence of Birdstar, with her obviously commanding aura, would surely be enough to intimidate anyone.
As Birdstar praised her, Rosekit suppressed a squeal. Fortunately, another apprentice had wandered over and introduced herself. The apprentice, Celandinepaw, seemed equally as friendly as Lionpaw. Suddenly nervous at all the attention, Rosekit soothed herself with a few quick chest licks.
Realizing she hadn't introduced herself to Celandinepaw, she replied, "Thank you, your pelt is pretty too! I'm Rosekit! I'm five months old-" she cut herself off before she mentioned her desire to become an apprentice sooner than the usual six months. Probably best to keep that to herself, as her mother often told her. Rosekit offered a friendly purr to the new arrival, before turning her attention back to Birdstar.
Forcing herself to sit still, as her mother had often reminded her, Rosekit watched with excitement as Birdstar demonstrated the proper way to hunt whilst in trees. She quickly tried to copy the leader's moves; how she kept low to the ground, the way she readjusted her approach. Despite Rosekit's efforts, she stumbled slightly and fell. Luckily, Birdstar had chosen that moment to launch herself at an unsuspecting clanmate, a tom who was lounging nearby.

Well it sounded like they would go practice something, that was good get their energeitc paws doing something not bothering him!
Stormwatcher had just closed his eyes to finally get his nap in. When Birdstar was yelling something at him!
"Heads up what??"
HUMFA
She landed on him "catching the squirrel" he yelped and jumped up a bit startled and very suprised.
He gave a narrowed glance at his leader... Well at least the young ones would be entertained but at the expense of his poor nap.
"oh har har har, so funny" he meowed with a slight roll of his eyes.
Bird and Wolf were becoming more and more like older sisters and they seemed to enjoy tormenting him as such. (But you would never get him to admit that)
He stretched and let out a yawn glancing at the kits and apprentices gathered... "hmm whatda think kiddos? Lets play a new game. Practice sparring" he grinned a little smirk back at Birdstar.
"Everyone GET HER!!!"
He would hold her down so they could all get her.
He hadn't remembered the last time he had played like this... and he was not planning on ever making this a habbit. But having the swarm of kits and apprentices all pile on Birdstar would be funny... and a bit of poking back for interrupting his nap.
Stormwatcher uses leap and pin on Birdstar
He is holding her down!! Come quick before she can escape!!
Stormwatcher -15 sp. No actual damage dealt since it is just a playful spar.
He didn't actually hurt her, just a push over and keeping her from getting away so the kits could come get her.

Lionpaw watched Rosekit's reactions to Birdstar's instruction with slight amusement. He'd hoped she'd get a kick out of it, though Birdstar's advice wasn't bad. He made sure that he paid attention and remembered. What he hadn't been expecting was for her to pounce on Stormwatcher and he couldn't stop himself from bursting out laughing. This was the kind of stuff he imagined doing with siblings and things he had done with his mom, once upon a time. It had been moons since he felt like this and it made him feel like he was nestled up in sunshine.
"Get Birdstar??" He asked incredulously before he leaped onto the nearest tree trunk. He scaled it quickly and crept out onto a limb over the both of them, displaying none of the struggling he claimed to have earlier. When Lionpaw leaped, it wasn't Birdstar he landed on, but Stormwatcher.
"Skyclan will always be on their leader's side, Stormwatcher!" Lionpaw declared before mock-clawing Stormwatcher's back. As he battered the warrior's fur, he chuckled. It felt good to act kit-like again, even if only for the moment.

Celandinepaw

"Thank you! Nice to meet you, Rosekit," she purred with a warm smile. She turned to Birdstar and nodded eagerly. "I would love to join!" She was excited to see the leader's demonstration. Watching Birdstar do things was always interesting.
There was an amused twitch of her whiskers as the leader began her lesson. There was a warrior resting not far from them and it seemed like Birdstar was using him as an assistant without him knowing.
Celandinepaw began to listen and watch carefully. She didn't want to miss even a second. Hunting in the trees was hard and this was something she needed a lot of help with.
She was slowly understanding how it all worked. Getting bucked out of a tree was what worried her the most. However, Birdstar's explanation reassured her. She will have to practice what she learned under Firepool's careful watch.
Suddenly, the apprentice was shaken from her thoughts by Birdstar's call. Huh? What was going on? Her eyes widened as the leader pounced on the unsuspecting warrior. Celandinepaw couldn't help the giggle that escaped her. Poor Stormwatcher! He had been understandably startled. Amusement twinkled in the apprentice's eyes. It was cool seeing the leader have some fun. She wished she had siblings to do this with.
Stormwatcher's voice made her head tilt. Practice sparring? Her mouth opened to an "O" as she watched the warrior maneuver around and pin down Birdstar. Another giggle escaped her. He clearly wanted them to pile onto Birdstar but things weren't going to go to plan.
She watched Lionpaw climb onto a tree stump and then leap onto the warrior's back. Her eyes narrowed playfully and her tail swished back and forth. "Yeah!" she said. "Watch your back, Stormwatcher! You have dared to cross Birdstar! As her loyal future warriors, we're coming for you!"
Celandinepaw picked her own stump, taking the moment to practice what she had learned a few minutes earlier. She then leaped off it and landed close to Stormwatcher and not on top of him so she wouldn't squash Lionpaw by accident. She batted the warrior's face playfully and then wherever she could reach. This was fun!
She turned to look at Rosekit and then called out, "Come on, Rosekit! Let's show Stormwatcher who he's messed with!" Her brown eyes were glittering.

Rosekit's jaw dropped as she watched Stormwatcher pin Birdstar down and try to convince the rest of them to pile onto the leader. The two apprentices seemed to hesitate for a moment before apparently coming to a unanimous decision and launching their separate attacks. Rosekit began laughing with high-pitched excitement as the two apprentices chose not to leap onto Birdstar, as Stormwatcher obviously intended, but to jump over her and instead attack her assailant.
The kit watched as Lionpaw climbed a tree trunk with obvious ease, then launched himself directly onto Stormwatcher's back. Where had that sudden agility come from?! It began to dawn on Rosekit that he may have downplayed his skill slightly, but she didn't have any time to think about that now. Celandinepaw had also jumped to Birdstar's defense, and was calling for Rosekit to join the defense of their leader!
Rosekit considered her options for a brief moment, before deciding to jump to Birdstar's defense. The two apprentices were right; a loyal warrior always defends their leader! Rosekit flattened her ears before letting out what hopefully sounded like a ferocious yowl, then ran around the tangle of cats. There were so many limbs flying around, and Rosekit suddenly felt very small surrounded by the tangle of cats.
Not letting this deter her, Rosekit zeroed in on Stormwatcher's tail and called out, "For Birdstar"!" She lunged forward, trying to imitate Birdstar's demonstration, and dug her needle-sharp claws into the tail, her laughter still ringing through the air.

Stormwatcher got his hopes up super high at Lionpaws initial remark of get birdstar, he was a bit too busy holding the leader down to notice the question in lionpaws voice though. He watched the apprentice climbing getting some height... and he said he couldnt climb! Look at em go!
"heh, lionpaws about to get you Birdstar surrender now to all of u- He never finished that as a big weight landed on him
He was knocked off Birdstar and let out a groan.
"ughh lionpaw! ya missed completly" he meowed annoyed not yet realizing what was happening until lionpaw explained furhter.
Stormwatcher didnt have time to react before Celandinepaw and rosekit both were also tackling him over and play attacking him.
He got quickly overwealmed and got smooshed under lionpaw then smacked in the face by celandinepaw then his tail got hit by rosekit.
"owww... ya, your claws are warrior ready" he sighed glancing over at rosekit
just wish they were on my side! he thought to himself
"ghaaa!" the big guy was burried quickly. He may look big and scary but he had never really put his size to effective use in fights. He would often trip over his own paws. When he was teaching stoneheart (his old apprentice) she had nearly bested him in their practices so he stood 0 chance here as he was quickly pinned by them all.
"aughha" he moaned in protest. This had not gone at all to what he had planned in his head.
He made a little mental note to take his naps outside of camp from now on. He usually didn't like interacting with his clanmates and usually looked out for number one (himself obviously who else?)
But even he couldnt admit that he had missed playing like this. His family died when he was young, part of why he tried to be so closed off, he didnt like the idea of forming attatchments just to watch them be lost.
He pushed upward with all he could and managed to somewhat slide lionpaw off of him.
"ugh, struggling climbing trees yeah right, you were a natural just then" he mused in a playing tone.
Meanwhile he tried to push Celandinepaw towards a snow drift, one of the last ones that was still clinging around in the shadows of camp at the beginnings of spring. Maybe some snow would help cool these feisty apprentices down.
ok ok... maybe this play was more fun than he would ever admit out loud.
