Adderdawn
The air was cold and bitter. The wind was harsh today, too– it raced over the snow-swept moors, buffeting Adderdawn's thin fur and making him squint against the gusting cold. He walked closer to Flutterpetal because of it, enjoying his brother's presence and the muted warmth that came from his pelt. Though this was terrible weather to be patrolling in, he could at least be grateful for who he was patrolling with.
Whiskers twitching, Adderdawn lifted his head into the wind. They were supposed to be hunting, but it was hard to register anything when all he could focus on was the wind hissing against his ears. His jaw parted slightly, about to suggest they turn back and just pray they ran into something on the way back to camp, but movement up ahead caught his eye. The body of a large bird perched on the broken stump, and its wings were unfurling to push it into the air. Adderdawn narrowed his eyes tighter, watching the hawk rise. It's leaving us, he told himself hopefully, golden eyes intent. Even as he reassured himself the bird was leading, he shouldered a little ahead of Flutterpetal, standing defensively in front of him.
It was a good thing, too: the hawk angled itself into the current and tightened its wings, dropping fast through the air. Adderdawn bristled, agitated that the raptor had taken offense to their presence, but he couldn't duck out of the way before it crashed into him, talons digging into his shoulder. A pained hiss left Adderdawn as he rolled with it, a shower of snow kicking up where he landed, and he thrashed hard to get the weight off of him.
Eagle used Swoop on Adderdawn, dealing 8 (9-1) damage and costing 15 SP. Moor Runner is active for this fight.

The wind was so harsh it was hard to see... but Flutterpetal preferred it to dead air. He supposed it was in his blood; the name WindClan was not simply a metaphor or a misnomer. They lived with the wind, and it had emotions just like any other cat. Unfortunately, sometimes it had a temper. The wind felt angry today--cold, biting at their faces, whipping their fur around them with a fury that made it almost feel malicious. Still, he found himself welcoming its company as he and Adderdawn trudged across the frosty moors, taking comfort in each other's presence. It felt nice to be out with him, despite the cold and the painful nip of the wind. He wouldn't rather be anywhere else.
He hadn't noticed anything amiss until Adderdawn pushed in front of him, the slightly smaller tom's frame suddenly moving his own slightly backwards. "Huh? What's wrong?" Glancing at his brother's face showed his golden gaze narrowed, staring up at some moving object. Confused, Flutterpetal moved his own eyes upward, searching the bitterly cold sky until he saw the reason for the precaution. Some large bird was circling upwards and away... then returning back. Where was it headed? Not until too late did he realize that those sharp talons were headed straight for his brother. In just a few moments the bird barreled into him, claw-first, nearly tackling him to the ground. "Adder!" Flutterpetal cried out, frozen for a moment in shock. The attack had been so sudden that he hadn't been prepared for it. It took him a few moments to shake off the stun, after which he dashed forward against the freezing wind and batted at the large bird, worried that he would accidentally miss and wound his brother. Still, the blow was hard, and would hopefully grab the predator's attention. "Are you all right?"
Flutterpetal used Front Paw Strike on Eagle, dealing 8 damage and costing 7 stamina.

Flutterpetal's shocked yelp echoed through Adderdawn's ears when his head hit the ground. He'd contribute the weight lifting off him to his brother's attack rather than his own writhing. With a shove of its wings, the eagle released him, though it didn't rise far. Adderdawn rolled to his paws, keeping his attention on the predator. He did offer a small nod though, hissing out, "I'm okay," just loud enough to be heard over the gusts. His ribs stung where talons found them, and he might have been bleeding if he looked. He kept his attention forward.
The eagle ducked in again. It went for Flutterpetal this time, gripping around his shoulders. With a wordless shout, Adderdawn sprang for it, tackling the bird out of midair and halfway dragging Flutterpetal with them before the eagle dislodged its hold. They each hit the ground hard, but Adderdawn kept the bird flattened on its back before it could thrash from under him. It shrieked, a piercing shout that echoed around the wind, and its talons caught in his fur, but he determinedly kept himself in place against it.
Eagle used Talon Strike on Flutterpetal, dealing 6 (7-1) damage and costing 10 SP. Adderdawn used Leap and Hold on the Eagle, dealing 8 damage and costing 15 SP. Eagle is pinned for 1 turns.

Flutterpetal kept his claws unsheathed, but instead of looking at the predator, his worried eyes were on his brother. Adderdawn had at least responded to his call, so he must not be too badly hurt. Was he bleeding at all? Maybe if he looked, he could find some cobwebs--
His train of thought was interrupted. Since his focus had foolishly been directed elsewhere, the eagle went for him, sharp talons suddenly digging into his shoulders. A strangled yelp of surprise and pain wrested itself from his lungs, and for one terrifying moment, he felt his paws begin to lift off of the ground from the force of the blow. However, the moment was cut short, and a yowl from Adder accompanied the sensation of being tackled to the stone-hard dirt, the weight of both bird and brother bearing down on him. Thankfully, the heaviness pressing him was gone as quickly as it had come, and Adderdawn wrestled the eagle into a pin beneath his paws. ...Ow... Though he felt the slices that the predator had torn into his shoulders begin to smart, Flutterpetal grit his teeth and blinked dirt out of his eyes, running forward to assist his brother. Stupid, stupid--why hadn't he been paying attention? They needed to get rid of this bird. Then he could worry about cobwebs. "I'm--I'm sorry," he managed to pant out, breath shaky as he aimed another two quick blows at the now-prone predator.
Flutterpetal used Front Paw Strike and Quick Strike, dealing 15 (8+7) damage and costing 17 (10+7) stamina.

The eagle continued to thrash under his paws, but Adderdawn held fast to keep it in place. He was still catching his breath from the roll when Flutterpetal hurried over, claws flashing toward the bird. The wounds left on the shoulder Adderdawn could see already looked ugly, and he grimaced when he faced his brother. “Don’t apologize,” he answered with a labored huff. “You didn’t–” it stretched, beak snapping towards his legs, but Adderdawn kept deftly just out of its reach. He knew a blow from a bird of this size could shatter bones. “Don’t apologize, Flutter. We’re fine!” His wounds were stinging, but they were together. They could handle anything together; an eagle was nothing.
Feeling brave, Adderdawn released some of the weight keeping it in place. His paws slid away from its chest, replaced instead by the bearing of his teeth. Blood sank into his mouth, and the eagle screeched against him. It beat its wings harder, and the force of its desperation-fueled thrashing almost knocked Adderdawn's displaced paws loose. He held on though, teeth digging through its breast, until its shrieking grew hoarse and the breaths passing through it were harsh and labored. It shuddered, caught in the last moments of life. Adderdawn's teeth released too late to spare it.
Stepping entirely off of it, Adderdawn stared at the bird for a while, chest heaving slightly. A mixture of exertion and disgust stirred in him. He hadn't meant to kill it... but dead it was. After a breathless cough, he moved closer to his brother, pressing his nose gently to the fresh wounds in his pelt. "I told you we were fine," he spoke into the wind, trying to sound cheery. "Does it hurt badly? Are you alright?"
Adderdawn used Snap, dealing 9 (8+1) damage and costing 7 SP. Eagle is KO'd!

Flutterpetal kept his guard up and his claws unsheathed until the bird stopped moving. He hadn't been expecting it to die, but... he guessed prey was prey, and it was just like any other animal. Still, he found himself closing his eyes for a brief moment. As the adrenaline of battle faded, he became vaguely aware of the stinging pain in his shoulders. Still, he was more acutely aware of the strain behind Adderdawn's voice. "Just a couple scratches," he said, trying to ignore the way that his brother's gentle touch on them made him want to grit his teeth. "I'm okay. What about you? It got to you first. You don't feel bad about its death, do you? It's just like... a big rabbit. With wings. That attacks cats sometimes." He frowned thoughtfully. "Okay, maybe that's a bad analogy. But, um... are you all right? We should probably take this to camp and get Batsong to look at you. And me, I guess."
