Mistpaw was painfully shy, something that she had sort of expected to shed as she grew older. It wasn't that it got worse, exactly, but it certainly hadn't gotten any better- there were a handful of cats that were alright, but mostly she still shied away from her clanmates. The other apprentices could usually get short, whispered answers; but she was still quick to flee more often than not.
She was pretty, with silky grey-shaded fur that she kept meticulously clean, and reminiscent of her namesake in the way she drifted from place to place and often tried to disappear; but the soft green of her eyes shining in a dark place was often the only immediately noticeable sign of her presence.
Today, in a rare occurrence, she had ventured out into the snow after attending to her duties- clearing out a spot for herself just outside the apprentice's den.
Pawing softly at the snow with a rarely-seen smile, for once she wasn't paying any attention to her surroundings.

Now shy was perhaps the last word used to describe young Foxpaw. Especially as he had assimilated into clan life. With each passing day he felt more comfortable in his own pelt, the routine of clan life was simpler and easier than Rita had made it out to be. By no means was clan life easy persay. Just...different than what his birth mother had said. He didn't need to fight for his life every day like she made it seem. Well sure fighting predators and dodgin' twolegs every now and then was dangerous. But still nowhere near his original assumptions.
Foxpaw wasn't pretty. He was dirty, scrappy, and had fur sticking up in all directions. But the way he looked into your eyes and gave his signature smile, gave him an undeniable charm. Those like Mistpaw, the ones who shied away from the spotlight always seemed to catch his attention.
After finishing his own duties, the dark-furred tom-cat puffed out his chest and approached Mistpaw, his paw steps heavy on the snow beneath him, "Very pretty." he commented sitting near her, not bothering to elaborate on whether or not he was talking about the snow she was pawing at, or her. His smile was bright and his eyes were shining as he tried to make eye contact with his den mate.

The voice of one of her denmates, something that would normally have spurred her into action (typically putting some distance between the source of it and herself), hardly registered in Mistpaw's mind at all. "It catches the sunlight," she mused. "And it shines so pretty..."
Maybe if I could catch the sunlight, hunting wouldn't be so difficult... I can't even catch a mouse.
"What's the prettiest thing?"
She didn't realize, at first, that she'd spoken the question aloud.

Foxpaw twitched his whiskers in amusement as he looked down into the sparkling snow, "Mmm, yep, sure does." he acknowledged. He hadn't spent much time thinking about it, but now as he looked into the glittering flakes, they were sort of mesmerizing. Though at his denmates question, he held back a chuckle. There were a few ways he could take the conversation. But he knew what he wanted to do. Foxpaw didn't wait to respond, he always thought actions were stronger than words anyhow.
The apprentice took some of the softer flakes in a paw and threw it up into the air over the two of them. Snow fluttered down around the two, and Foxpaw looked at Mistpaw as the glittering snowflakes fell onto her pelt and he grinned, "Well I 'spose it's you." he purred in response, "You're the one shining now."

That distant realizing that she was talking to another cat clicked into place as Mistpaw felt the slight chill of snow dusting over her, and it sparked a sudden desire to turn her gaze to the other apprentice. Foxpaw's dark fur stood out amidst the snow, black contrasting against the layer of glittering white. He was as coated as she was now, and her eyes were wide with something other than fear.
Wonder.
"I... Thank you," she said softly, looking away.
Then, chancing a glance back at him:
"So are you."
She had thought of the rising and setting sun, and the way the stars stretched out endlessly across the sky, and the snow-covered ground. She wasn't sure what to do with his answer, or the way she suddenly felt seen and thought she might not mind it.
