To Be Something Beautiful, To Be Something You're Not[C]

The white tom-kit always tried his best to look as good as possible, grooming his coat as many times as it took to give it a shiny sheen, and always made sure the tufts on his tail were perfectly seperated and never tangled. He kept active so that his kitten fat would fall off as quickly as possible; he couldn't wait until he was tall and pretty like Dovetail and Murkyriver. Even though neither of his parents held the sleek RiverClan build or the waterproof coat that all the other kits had, they had their own pretty traits, like the soft wispy fur that he had, and the longer legs and sturdy shoulders. He liked being around his parents, because they looked pretty, and would make him look good too.

With Wisteriakit, however... Milkkit tried to keep his distance. It couldn't be helped that they were born from the same parents, and hence were forced to do activities together all the time. Still, he always made excuses so that he wouldn't have to play with her. It seemed as if all his... sister, cared about was food. Even with their kitten fat, Wisteriakit seemed to be notably rounder than any of their littermates. If she stopped gorging herself with food at every opportunity, maybe she would be pretty enough to be around him. Hopefully-- and he really did hope this would be true-- once Wisteriakit grew older and started training, she would have more things to do than eat, and maybe she'd get some extra exercise too. For now, though, he really didn't want to be around her, but Murkyriver had asked him to accompany her while she took Herringkit and Loonkit to Pigeonpounce for some thorns in their nest or whatever. And he couldn't ignore Murkyriver's instructions without punishment, so he had no choice.

Maybe there was a way around this, though. Pale yellow-gold eyes glanced at Wisteriakit briefly before darting away, as if he was embarrassed to even be caught looking at this cat. "Wisteriakit. Why don't we race to the other side of Camp? First to the entrance is the winner." If he could run fast enough, he could lose her for a few heartbeats before he had to think of something again. Or maybe she'd get tired enough to go back to sleep, and he would be able to leave and do whatever he wanted.

Wisteriakit couldn't care less about her outward appearance, at least at the moment. Kits weren't meant to be self-conscious about their looks, not when they were still developing their personalities and learning about the life that eagerly awaited them after kithood. So much to know, so much to absorb! Worrying about too many things would only take up the little room inside her head.

Murkyriver had given her pelt a nice grooming that morning and the fluffy she-kit had enjoyed it. There was something comforting in physical gestures of affection. If she'd been smart enough to think of it, Wisteriakit might have even revelled in dirtying her pelt in order to spend more time with her mother. However, the day had gone by and mussed up the clean coat of fur. A tiny bit of moss clung to the molly's belly as she slowly got to her paws.

"Race? What for?" she mewed, curling a bushy tail around her plump form. "Can't we do something else?" The suggestion was reluctant, and she stared wide-eyed as if expecting the tom-kit to disapprove a disagreement to his idea. Milkkit never seemed to be confused or lost. To Wisteriakit, her brother was always sure of himself. That trait, she admired.

Ugh. Milkkit's expression flashed with disgust as his sister immediately proposed to do something else. StarClan knows she needs the excersise. "It's fun, we can brag to our siblings if we win, and we get to pick a prize if we win," He made up an explanation on the spot, trying his absolute best not to sneer. "Why don't you pick out a prize?" Maybe that would convince her to keep her mouth shut and use her legs for once. "It can be like... first pick of the fresh-kill pile!" Oh, Wisteriakit would love that alright. The tom-kit held back a giggle at the mean thought and waited impatiently for the tortoiseshell to come up with some prize so that they could start the race and he could finally be rid of her.

It's fun, we can brag to our siblings if we win, and we get to pick a prize if we win... Wisteriakit listened to Milkkit with a growing sense of boredom. She wanted to go explore the forest, look for berries or crunchy bugs, or tasty flowers! What was the fun in running around until her heart was about to burst out of her chest? Being out of breath, panting on the ground was no fun at all.

"But why...?" she protested glumly, not really wanting to defy her sibling's wishes. At the mention of the fresh kill pile, her ears perked up noticeably, but she had just eaten breakfast. She could use a little snack, perhaps a small water vole... However, water voles were always something she could have anytime. Wisteriakit wanted to try something new. "I want to expand my taste palette." The she-kit made a face, one that any cat would be lucky to have ever seen. It was a face of concentration and deep thought.

After a few heartbeats, Wisteriakit gave the white tom a firm nod. "I'm gunna be the best taste tester in the entire forest! Just one sniff of food and I'll be able to tell just what it is. "
