Dawnfeather was still mildly surprised that Wolfblossom had chosen her, of all cats, to lead a hunting patrol. Glancing back at the cats following her, though- that summoned an instant smile. Beetle- she was still so, so overjoyed that he was back- and Foxpaw, that lil’ scrap of spunk and energy. And Stoatclaw. He seemed nice!

She’d decided to lead them to the Moonlit Creek, where the prey always ran well, and on the way there engaged each patrol member in upbeat conversation- pressing her shoulder against Beetle for a second as she brought back faint memories of Oliverain- gently cuffing Foxpaw’s ears as they teased each other- trying to engage Stoatclaw, the odd one out, in polite conversation. Once they began to approach the Creek, however, she motioned with her tail for silence. They couldn’t frighten all the prey off, after all.

A rustle near the creek caught Dawnfeather’s attention. She preferred to tree-fly, really, but Foxpaw would probably take that as further encouragement- and with all due respect, he’d frighten off everything from here to Fourtrees. The golden she-cat slunk through the undergrowth, scenting some sort of bird…

“Gooses?” she involuntarily yelped, springing back. Three long necks straightened in eerie unison; three beaked heads swung towards her. Dawnfeather’s eyes grew wide. Were gooses- geese- a danger? They- well, they were kinda freaking her out right now- then, with a clamor of honking that made her want to cover her ears, the three overgrown birds launched themselves from their spot next to the creek; one’s wing dragging, exposing an old, infected injury that kept it from flight.

“Watch out!” she managed as a sharp beak snapped at her ears; Dawnfeather danced around it, sinking her teeth into the long neck and shaking, as hard as she could, ignoring the distressed squawk the bird gave. She was the most experienced warrior on this patrol- from the corner of her eye, she saw one descend on Stoatclaw, hitting the younger warrior over the head with its wing, and the injured one do the same to Foxpaw- her little dear-

An almost feral hiss escaped Dawnfeather’s maw as she jerked her head from side to side, tasting blood in her mouth as she held onto the goose that had attacked her. She would finish off this despicable creature, then turn to help the others.

Goose #1 used Beak Attack on Dawnfeather, dealing 10 damage and costing 15 stamina. Goose #2 used Wing Bluff on Stoatclaw, dealing 5 damage and costing 10 stamina. Injured Goose used Wing Bluff on Foxpaw, dealing 5 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Dawnfeather used Scruff Shake on Goose #1, dealing 8 damage and costing 20 stamina. Goose #1 is stunned for 2 turns.

Being forced to patrol with such a large group didn't sit well with Stoatclaw, but at least the only other warrior here was one that seemed... Normal, compared to the other cats that populated his clan. It was as good a patrol as he could ask for, and Dawnfeather's constant conversation was appreciated, even as often as he floundered for responses. At some point, he had actually started to enjoy patrolling with his clanmates, what an odd feeling that was.

"Gooses?" Stoatclaw echoed from beside his fellow warrior. Movement caught his eye, and three beaked beasts were upon them. Stoatclaw immediately backed up as the goose began to assault him with it's wings, but he was giving up too much ground to a simple predator. Experiences like this were necessary if he was to ever improve in combat, this wasn't the time to be backing off against an opponent. The wings kept coming however, and Stoatclaw found it hard to think in the middle of the flying feathers. Letting his body move on its own, Stoatclaw reached out at the goose with claws outstretched, aiming to shred whatever he could get ahold of. His claws met with nothing but air, maybe loose feathers, but nothing that would actually harm his opponent. Annoying, this thing was annoying.

Dawnfeather sunk her teeth deeper into the goose’s flexible neck, tasting blood through the feathers. The golden she-cat’s sharp fangs pierced through fluffy down and skin alike, meeting resistance where her teeth cracked against bone. She dug her claws into the riverbank, continuing to shake the wretched creature from side to side, its unwieldy wings splayed. The goose shrieked, seeking to snap at Dawnfeather’s face, but the slim SkyClanner’s grip was too strong. She would make this creature rue the day it decided to hurt her son. She would finish off this one, then turn and sink her claws into the other. It was rare that Dawnfeather felt this sort of burning anger- but this was just a predator. It needed to die- and she believed that whatever afterlife met it would be suited to its needs.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the other two geese’s beaks snap at their attackers; her blue eyes narrowed in anger. They would pay.

Dawnfeather used Snap, dealing 10 damage and costing 7 stamina.
