Stocking Up [OPEN Hunting]

The tunnels weren't Brackenwing's favorite part of Windclan territory, but the hares, rabbits and other creatures that made them their home were plentiful. With a wave of her tail to her patrolmates, she split away from them, following the scent of hare on the breeze. She could see it just inside the tunnel, and crouched, carefully hidden in the grass. Chasing them down and catching them was something difficult with Brackenwing's body - her mother had told her she was built more like her father even as an apprentice, and she was far from the faster cats in the clan as a result. Therefor, Brackenwing waited for the prey to come to her. When the hare made an exit from its' hiding spot, Brackenwing's muscles bunched. The hare crept forward, blissfully unaware of the warrior's presence. Brackenwing leaped, paws pinning the hare down as she quickly sank her fangs into her prey's throat. Killing them, at least, she was better at than chasing them. Turning, the marbled tabby buried the hare, then turned to watch the progress of her patrolmates.

Maplespring hadn't spent much time inside of the tunnels, but enough to know how they worked and how they could be of use. It was the newleaf hunting season, something that she knew would be of great use to helping the Clan regain any lost weight and stamina after the harsh winter. It was certainly a rough time, for sure, with both the Dark Forest stealing supplies, but also the general lack of anything to catch thanks to the cold. All of that was behind now, though, and Maplespring had agreed to join Brackenwing on a patrol. The signature bounce in her step was calmed slightly as she did her best not to disturb any prey by rustling the long moors grass to hard, and it would bring fruits to her labor as she herself found a rabbit. She took her own place, hidden among the long strands of grass, waiting until the perfect opportunity to strike. It had just barely seemed to notice her, but that notice was too late, as her claws found its hind leg, bringing it to her to end its life swiftly.

Scorchtalon had practically jumped at the mention of a patrol, eager for any chance to prove his loyalty. He'd been trying to convince himself his meetings with Marshmallow were harmless, but part of him feared his clanmates wouldn't exactly see it that way. No one could accuse him of disloyalty if he kept up with his duties, right? Even if he exhausted himself in the process. Though admittedly, he wouldn't have been so enthusiastic if he knew they'd be hunting in the tunnels. He'd heard several chilling tales of cats being trapped or even killed under rockfalls in his youth, and he opted to keep his distance whenever possible. A rustle sounded nearby, and he nearly leapt out of his fur in fear. Ugh... how embarrassing. What are you, a kit? He silently berated himself, shaking off the eerie feeling and attempting to focus on hunting.

The rustling turned out to be helpful, as further investigation showed a young, juicy looking hare popping it's head out from it's den and sniffing the air. He immediately froze, his mouth watering at the sight. Thankfully, he was already downwind, and as soon as the creature deemed it's surroundings safe enough to venture out, he leapt at it. Unfortunately, he seemed to have overshot his aim a bit, landing a couple mouse tails past the rabbit den and coming up empty-pawed. He shrugged, moving on. Better luck next time.

Maplespring, Brackenwing noted, moved very much like the prey she'd just caught did. She offered the she-cat a small smile of congratulations. She wasn't the type to initiate conversation most of the time unless it was with her siblings, but she didn't mind patrolling with Maplespring or Scorchtalon even if she didn't know them well.

Scorchtalon had missed, but Brackenwing was of the mind that it didn't really matter as long as the patrol brought back more than what they'd left camp with. Spotting another rabbit, she stalked toward it, circling to remain downwind. She managed to get close and leapt. The rabbit fell easily, and Brackenwing quickly buried it and moved on.

Blazefang carried herself proudly as she padded into the tunnels with the patrol. She’d never really been in the tunnels, but she felt that was a minor issue. The newly appointed warrior watched her sister and the others hunt for a minute, then sniffed down a rabbit of her own. Okay, crouch, stalk, spring… Gotcha! Easy.
