Leafkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Once again did the tom climb the Jaggedrock. He was apprenticing another kit, there had been many litters recently. Shadowclan was blessed to receive such a boon... at least that was what he told himself as he ran around apprenticing them all. Frostgaze could not remember the last time there had been that many kits. "All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!" With any luck, this would be the last ceremony for at least a little while.

Snowfoot padded over to Jaggedrock. So there was to be another meeting. She suspected it was for one of Murkystar’s kits, they were getting quite old. She shuffled her paws nervously. What if she was given one? Would she be a good mentor?

Deerleap padded up to meet her friend. the new queen purred at Snowfoot's apprehensive look. "Do you think it'll be your turn to get an apprentice?" she asked.

Leafkit dragged her paws forward until she was in front of the Jaggedrock. her amber eyes were bored as she looked around. had it not been her ceremony, should probably would not have even crawled out of her den.

“I hope so,” Snowfoot whispered to Deerleap. “Paws crossed”

As Leafkit appeared, Frostgaze began the ceremony. "Shadowclan! I have gathered you here to witness the naming of a new apprentice. Leafkit, step forward." When had Leafkit taken a few steps forward, the deputy continued. "Leafkit, you have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Leafpaw. Duskflight will be your mentor, I trust that he will pass on his skill and dedication to you." With a slight nod to the warrior, Frostgaze leaped off of the Jaggedrock.

A meeting was happening, apparently.

Quietly making his way out of the slowly-crowding den, Duskflight settled down at a spot in the middle of the gathering crowd. There were things he could’ve wished for the better — but right now, it seemed… harder to do so. His eyes trailed away from the crowd, spacing out… Only until he heard his name. His head turned, immediately scanning for the new apprentice. Returning Frostgaze’s curt nod was another one, and a hopeful smile as he approached the young molly. He was capable enough of having apprentices now, but he still longed to share the joy of it with a certain someone’s return. Their situation right now didn’t help much.

Rising to his paws, he approached Leafpaw. His nose touched with hers before quickly parting, and he spoke. “We’ll start training at tomorrow’s dusk. Try to get used to your new den, and get plenty of rest meanwhile, Leafpaw. I believe you’ll need it.”

"leafpaw! Leafpaw!" Deerleap cheered. she was glad that her father was getting a new apprentice, even if she seemed a bit... sleepy.

leafpaw scrambled forward to greet her new mentor. already, he was planning for that night. at Duskflight's warning, Leafpaw groaned. why couldn't she just stay a kit? apprentice work sounded boring and tiring.
