Flurrykit's Apprentice Ceremony

RiverClan had swung into newleaf with full force. Bright sunlight shone down on the camp, beginning to melt what few snowdrifts were left in shady corners by the dens. The grass, yellow and matted from being stuck with no light for so long, began to grow green again. Perchfall closed her eyes for a moment after jumping onto the Willow Branch, letting herself enjoy the way that the rays warmed her pelt. Existing in that moment, it almost seemed as if nothing was wrong with the world. Almost. Then she had to inhale a deep breath and come back to reality. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting," she called. Back to her duties. Back to the nightmarish shadows that reigned over the forest.

Flurrykit had been born into a world of ice and snow and shadows, and it was all so beautiful to her - because it was all she had ever known, all she had ever been able to find beauty in - but as the seasons shifted she could see there was so much more to appreciate, still. The call of a meeting caught her attention, and she approached the gathering of her clanmates with curiosity. As she did, she let herself wonder at what the occasion might be - a ceremony, perhaps? Or some other grand announcement she hadn't yet heard of?

Once Perchfall saw the kit join the rest of the crowds, she began the ceremony. With a flick of her tail, she beckoned the she-cat forward. "Flurrykit. You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Flurrypaw. Your mentor will be Robinpatch. I trust he will pass all his knowledge to you." Another cat that she was on fairly good terms with. The tom had always been friendly to her, and out of the senior warriors, she knew that he was at least reliable. She nodded at the newly named apprentice and mentor, then descended from the branch to organize the midday patrol.

Everything seemed to have gone back to normal...or at least, it looked that way. If it wasn't for the shadowy cats making themselves at home in the camp, Robin would definitely say so.

When Perchfall had called a clan meeting, Robinpatch was already sitting nearby. He moved back a few tail-lengths and settled down to see what the deputy had in store.

Ah. Finally, some good news. It was an apprentice ceremony for a young kit named Flurrykit. He quickly stood up on his paws as his name was called suddenly. An apprentice for him? A steady smile made its way onto his face as he walked right over. The nod Perch had shot their way wasn't lost on him. He quickly returned it then turned back to the newly-made apprentice. He gently pressed his nose to hers before speaking, "Hey there, kid. You excited to be starting your apprenticeship? I sure hope ya are cause you'll be working hard with me so we can get ya your warrior name. Training will start early, alright? Go celebrate with yer family and friends or whatever you wanna do right now. Get some rest tonight." With that, the senior warrior patted the young she-cat's shoulder with a careful paw before walking away.
