Owlkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Jaystar's kits. The idea terrified Perchfall. Kits of the enigmatic, inscrutable leader? He and Harebounce, the former Asylum she-cat? She never even saw them together. And yet, due to them, there were a few more kits running around camp. A few more apprentice ceremonies to be done. She didn't dislike the leader, necessarily... she just had no modicum of respect for the tom. He never communicated a thing to her; he just ran around making decisions that affected not only her life, but the lives of those she cared about. For being a deputy, she had remarkably little say in what happened to her Clan. That helplessness, that lack of control, was what she hated. Not Jaystar. And yet, he was a part of it.

But Owlkit had nothing to do with that. One couldn't choose their parentage. With a wordless sigh, the gray and white she-cat ascended to the branch, trying to gain some sense of normalcy. "Let all those old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting," she called.

He and his siblings never knew a world with StarClan. It sounded like a myth, some obscure legacy that certainly some cat made up to make others listen to their words. That being said, apparently, it gave their father a place in leading the clan. Which was interesting enough to the kit. Though, the looks that others gave him confused the tom.

Despite that, Owlkit gave everything he could to learn how to leap, swim, and hunt. More than anything Owlkit was ready to become an apprentice to show he is just as strong as his mother and father. Becoming Owlpaw was just that step. Head held high, he sat near the base of the tree, challenging any odd glace with a prideful gleam to his eyes.

The young tom looked like a promising addition to the ranks of the apprentices. Perchfall just hoped that he would be able to survive the strange circumstances they were all subject to. Like with all the other ceremonies she had done recently, she planned to give this apprentice to a trustworthy mentor. "Owlkit, you have reached the age of six moons and you are ready to be apprenticed. From this day on, you will be known as Owlpaw. Your mentor will be Hollyleaf. I trust that she will pass down all her knowledge on to you." Nodding at the tom and his new mentor, she descended from the Branch and ended the ceremony.

"Your mentor will be Hollyleaf. I trust that she will pass down all her knowledge on to you."

For a split second, Hollyleaf didn't realize her name was called out. Still lost in her thoughts, it was only a moment later that she'd realized she was called out. Wait- me? Though it felt as if her voice was stuck in her throat, she gulped, taking in a deep breath. Beaverpaw and Mintpool... though Mintpool successfully became a warrior, it wasn't achievable with Beaverpaw. Poor, poor Beaverpaw. This time, she was determined to not let the young tom down. She couldn't.

With a stiff flick of the tail, she approached the new apprentice, briefly touching noses with him for a while, before pulling away. "I suppose you'll need lots of rest, Owlpaw. Try to get familiar with your apprentice den and the other apprentices, we'll begin training tomorrow, at sunhigh. Until then, relax."

Freshly named Owlpaw sat a little bit taller as his name changed, and his mentor was called. It took a moment for her to finally approach, not that Owlpaw minded very much as he held his head high. Well, as high as he could. Any more and he might just topple over. Once they touched noses, Owlpaw let himself sink a little more into his sitting position. The eyes were no longer on him now.

"Hello." He mewed, dipping his head in greeting. "I don't need rest," He insisted, yellow eyes peering up into Hollyleaf's. "I'm ready now."
