Beechfang trudged through the territory, hardly noticing or caring that there was less snow on the ground than there had been in recent moons, or that the day was warmer than it had been seemingly all season. Her claws itched to sink into the flesh of the dark forest cat that trailed after her patrol with almost lazy steps, but Beechfang wasn't stupid. There was no point in fighting them. Bloodstar's body stretched out across a tree branch in camp, still not resurrected, but not rotting away, was proof of that. All the death at the gathering was also proof.
Skyclan's only saving grace was that Dawnhawk seemed less interested in them now that Smokefeather was dead. At least, for the moment. Who really knew how long that would last. Beechfang stared down at her paws, for a moment only seeing the blood that had stained them. May as well have still stained them, for all the good grooming had seem to do.
Beechfang forced her gaze away, eye immediately landing on a blackbird near the base of a tree. This was a hunting patrol... She need to hunt rather than wallow. Signaling to the rest of the patrol, Beechfang carefully stalked toward her target. When close, she leapt, but her paws met only empty air. Beechfang let out a frustrated hiss, turning away as her tail lashed.

Slightfrost dragged his paws after Beechfang. he burned to ask her how she felt after killing her mother, but he kept his mouth shut. after watching Beechfang fail at catching a bird, he turned away to catch something of his own. his eyes fell on a small sparrow. as he got ready to leap for it, one of the Dark Forest cats made a noise to scare away the prey. Slightfrost leaped, but his paws fell on thin air. he whipped around to give the Dark Forest cat a piece of his mind, but decided against it after remembering the deaths they had caused.

Aether was definitely an outlier when it came to this patrol, quite obviously not a SkyClan cat. But they were sort of keeping an eye on all the cats that were, so he sort of needed to be there. Although he couldn't resist the temptation to hunt as well. After all, that was what he was best at. Hunting. And he desperately wanted to do that again, this past moon had been far too much for him.
The Dark Forest cats seemed to be giving the others a hard time, scaring off their prey as they hunted, and he desperately hoped they would let him hunt normally. After all, he was on their side, right? He spotted a thrush digging out a worm, and decided to test that theory out. Of course, his timing was not the best, and the avian flew away before he could even pounce.

Beechfang might've been lost in her own thoughts, but she was no so lost in them that she didn't notice how Slightfrost had missed his catch. A quiet, rumbling growl escaped her throat as she eyed the dark forest cat, but she knew better than to take it any further than that. None of them stood any hope of fighting these monsters. Not Skyclan, nor the rogue that had apparently decided to stay with them. Beechfang eyed him for a moment, anger giving way to wariness. Nephew, supposedly... And it wasn't his fault that he had the misfortune of being Dawnhawk's son. He wasn't one of the walking dead, but that was one of the few positives she saw of his presence here. If it came down to it, she knew she could fight a living cat. Maybe Dawnhawk would kill her after all, if it happened to be one of his get.
With a shake of her head, Beechfang turned in search of more prey. Another bird that looked as scrawny as some of her clanmates caught her eye, and the silver tabby made her way toward it in silence. The soft hiss of the dark forest cat sent the bird scrambling into the sky before she could get close. Repayment for growling at the foul creature, most likely.
Beechfang kept her head down, the brief flash of frustration in her eyes quickly vanishing. There was no point in fighting them. None.

The Dark Forest cats really were trying to make life difficult for them. they seemed to have come up with a game called "Who Scares Off the Most Prey". keeping his eyes forward, Slightfrost staked towards a small crow. it's glossy black feathers looked like something nice to add to his collection, though his favorite was still the blue jay feather.
taking the chance that no Dark Forest cat had noticed the crow yet, Slightfrost lunged forward, his paws coming into contact with solid flesh. he killed it with a quick nip at the throat, careful not to damage any of the beautiful feathers. once it fell limp, the white tom extracted some tail feathers and stuck them to the thick fur around his neck that was almost a mane. he glanced at Beechfang, and reluctantly, offered a feather.
OOC: Slightfrost is growing softer towards cats who are going through difficult times with him! this is only the second time this side of him has appeared!

Aether was ready to have some words with the dark forest cats, their sabotage was completely unnecessary, but it had seemed a white tom had managed to catch something despite the odds. That was good. At least they wouldn't go hungry. He gave a small nod, a little embarrassed to do any more in congratulation, and branched off a bit with a flick of his tail. He would never get used to being on patrols with Clan cats, especially not under these circumstances.
It wasn't long until the tom had spotted a squirrel, and he decided to make his advances. He might not have been as skilled as cats who lived on this territory, but Aether was determined to catch something.
One of the dark forest cats came up, and he was sure they were going to scare the squirrel off, but instead they chased it.....right into his paws... He wanted to catch something, but that did not feel like a true catch at all, and Aether was slightly annoyed. He didn't need help to hunt!
Picking up the bushy-tailed creature, he sheepishly dropped it at the paws of his patrol. He didn't want something he didn't earn. He would try again.

Slightfrost managed to catch a crow, and Beechfang gave the white tom a small nod in approval. The offer of a few dark tail feathers made her blink, a flicker of surprise on her face. "Thanks." She muttered quietly, voice hardly enough to carry beyond the two of them. The symbolism of crow feathers wasn't lost on her, but she didn't have the energy to pick at things in offense like she otherwise might've.
One of the dark forest cats decided to chase a squirrel directly to the rogue that had joined them, and Beechfang's eye narrowed slightly in disapproval. Was Dawnhawk's kit so incompetent he couldn't hunt for himself? Or was that what the dark forest cats thought of their little patrol? She was still unsure as to why he had chosen to stay with Skyclan in the first place, though she supposed that being as disgusted with Dawnhawk as the rest of them was as likely a reason as any. Or he could be keeping an eye on them for him, but he had the dark forest cats for that. Either way... "Prey is prey, at this point." She mewed quietly. Being pragmatic was all she could do right now. Beechfang turned away, gaze settling on another bird. The dark forest cat might've helped their rogue tagalong, but the deliberate snap of a twig sent the bird into the air as she got close. It was a struggle to keep her rising aggravation in check as she glared sullenly at the filthy creature that had chosen to interrupt another hunt. Fighting them wasn't worth it, she knew that. There was no need to cause more trouble when the dark forest cats were capable of causing enough all on their own.

too late, Slightfrost realized how crow feathers might have been taken as. turning away in embarrassment, he instead raised his head to gave at a small chirping robin. he wriggled his haunches, eyes fixed on the colorful feathers untill the whole world shrank to the small creature. as such, he didn’t notice the huge tom behind him until a loud screech send the robin flying away. Slightfrost whipped around to glare at the tom, who only gave him a crooked grin.
