Against All Odds [o]

Sootwhisker padded determinedly through the pines, all senses alert for any sign of prey. It was hard to ignore the lingering shadow of the dark forest warriors, but he wouldn't let it stop him from feeding the clan. As long as they didn't threaten anyone, he would tolerate them until the clans found a way to get rid of them, for good. He wasn't stupid enough to think that was something Shadowclan could do on its own; the restoration of order would most likely require them all to work together. But there was nothing he could do about that right now, and he needed to focus on what he could do, which was hunt.

Refocusing on the task at hand, he spotted a skinny vole popping it's head up from a hole in the ground and sniffing at the air outside. Licking his lips, he crouched down, being sure to stay downwind of the rodent.

Squaring his haunches, he leapt, his paws landing on the vole as he ended it's life with a quick bite to the neck. He scooped some snow over his catch before moving on.

Deerleap followed Sootwhisker. she could sense his emotions swirling together like a huge storm. she longed to run up and comfort him, but decided not to be so affectionate in front of enemies. who knows what they'll do to him.

suddenly, a small moving shape from the edge of her vision caught her attention. as she whipped around, she realized it was a large hare. smiling with a fire in her eyes, Deerleap sprung forward and before the creature could react, her jaws were around it's neck. speed had always been one of her strong suites.

as she turned back to the patrol, she caught sight of the vole hanging from Sootwhisker's jaws. "nice catch!" she purred.

Murkystar watched from nearby as the two young warriors made their catches swiftly, her heart warming with pride. They had grown so much from the kits she once new them as. The future of the clan was in safe, steady paws - of that she was certain. Turning the other way, Murkystar peered around the area, hoping for something to catch her eye. Her gaze fell on movement near some roots of a pine tree, and she lowered herself into a crouch. She slowly stalked the movement, placing one paw carefully in front of the other, and launching herself towards the small lizard that had been sunning itself on the roots.
