The cold days felt colder with the Dark Forest cats in their camp. Nobody could rest peacefully thanks to them. There was an air of disease hovering around, nearly making Shrikestorm sick. He kept going on with his duties though, not wanting camp life to be completely disrupted. Besides, the more his clan could feel some sense of normalcy, the stronger they would be when it was time to fight back. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Tallrock for a clan meeting!"

Shimmerkit was being Shimmerkit... which meant before Shrikestorm could really finish the sentence... well Shimmerkit was suddenly there. He had seemingly no fear of anything, not even the Dark Forest cats. As long as he had room to run and no one would stop him, he was content. He sat down beneath the Tallrock and waited, blue eyes sparkling and paws itching to hear the announcement.
Shrikestorm chuckled under his breath, appreciative of the kit's energy at a time like this. "Shimmerkit, you've reached the age of six moons. It is time for you to become an apprentice. Until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Shimmerpaw. Hayglow will be your mentor."
Keeping Shimmerkit still for any length of time, Swift had quickly realized, was absolutely futile. The second the call had left Shrikestorm's mouth, he'd been off, leaving her to sigh in half-frustration, half-amusement at his antics. She was glad to see him become an apprentice, but she also worried for him. Unlike some in the clan, it was impossible for her to tune out the presence of the dark forest cats. Swiftspirit was hyperaware of their every movement, her shoulders tense and ears swiveling back and forth. Still, she tried to hide the fear she felt, looking on proudly as Shimmerpaw was apprenticed and given to Hayglow to train. Hayglow was someone she trusted... But Swiftspirit would keep an eye on her kits' training herself, too. She'd take them out hunting and patrolling. She'd do more than she had with Buzzardpaw and Magpiesight as apprentices, she had to do better than that.
