Another Day [solo]

Having almost completely grown up within the cold leaf-bare air, it seemed to rarely get to the warrior anymore. Tufts of breath billowed before her as she padded out into the forest, hunting on her mind. Her paws carried her to a place that she had been forbidden from going not long before - the stony hollow. Truthfully, Mottlerose hadn't seen much of the appeal to the banning, but she took her mentors word for it. Snow littered the ground as it always did, the soft crunch of her pawsteps indicating where she was. It made hunting a slight bit more difficult, as she had to be even more cautious as to how her steps landed upon the forest floor.

Stopping just before the signature stone log of the area, Mottlerose took the time to see just what all the place had to offer. There were faint traces of many rodents of times past, but there were also a couple of fresh trails for her to follow. One in particular seemed extremely fresh, and she opened her maw in order to hone in even further. She had found the rodent that was her target, and crouching down as Minnowfin had showed her so long ago, the tortoiseshell went to strike...

The molly cursed under her breath as it escaped her paws. The rodents this time of year seemed to have been charged with some type of super-speed, and no matter what she tried, she could never be as fast as them. Flicking her tail in agitation, she surveyed the area. Thankfully, the snow had acted in her favor, seemingly dampening the sound of her pounce. Only two of the other occupants of the area seemed to skitter away in fear, realizing that doom seemed to be fated upon them.

It meant that she had another chance. Beyond the thoughts that swirreled within her mind of coming to camp empty-pawed, the side of the young warrior that refused to let her Clan down pricked at her paws. She had the energy, and much of the capability, to be able to hunt and bring something back for the Clan. She would do it. The promises of the bounty of Newleaf pushed her to work harder, the thought of being able to offer the Clan many pieces of prey tantalizing upon her tongue. She had made it a personal rule never to eat her own kill, unless it was the smallest of the fresh-kill pile. Her smaller frame meant she didn't need as much as some of the other warriors, as there was less there to have to fuel.

Snapping out of her thoughts as she heard a rustling of leaves, Mottlerose's whiskers twitched with anticipation. She would try again. A vole, digging through leaves that had yet to completely crumple from the last season. It'd be the perfect opportunity, the crunching would help mask any accidental mis-step she would potentially make. Crouching low, she swiftly crept forward, eyeing the prey with an intensity that would probably make a few kits run in fear. Yet again, the molly went to strike...

The leaves had helped the she-cat perfectly, with the vole's life coming to an end cleanly. It was probably the cleanest kill she had managed in awhile. Pride swelled within her chest, bringing an extra warmth to ripple throughout her body. "Thank you, Starclan." Setting it in the crevice nearby where she had found it, the warrior decided she would press her luck just a little bit.

It seemed that rodents weren't the only thing that favored the stony hollow's offerings. A small rabbit hopped by, just barely visible as its white pelt blended in to the snowy weather. Her ears pricked forwards, a curious head tilt accompanying her studious gaze. She hadn't eaten rabbit before, but knew that they would go through the territory sometimes. It'd be a new prey for her to attempt to catch... would she be able to do it? Flexing her claws, she swiftly moved to where she would be able to attempt her catch.

Coiling her frame together and low, she waited for it to attempt to hop across her path. Anticipation brought miniscule twitches to her whiskers, but nothing more - every other inch of her was still. That was, until the crucial moment that the reason she had coiled came. Launching herself forwards, the tortoiseshell attempted to make her kill.

Just as she was about to land, a loud rustling and chittering filled the air nearby. Her kill bolted away, and her amber gaze snapped towards its origin. A raccoon.

Her lip curled in a hiss, understandably frustrated at the result of her kill. The vile creature returned a hiss-like sound of its own, puffing its body in defense. If anything, Mottlerose almost felt as if her hunting sessions were cursed to be ruined by a predator in one way or another. Luckily, she still had some fight in her. Curling her lip, the she-cat launched herself from her position, her claws and teeth ready to strike. She landed on the creatures hind end, her claws ripping into the putrid flesh. Anger was deep in the she-cat's veins, and this was a perfect opportunity to let it all out.

A Raccoon has appeared! Mottlerose used Jumping Strike, using 7+3 Damage!

Naturally, her opponent seemed particularly displeased with the attack it just got dealt. Its chittering was replaced by rather angry, harsh sounds, and its grey pelt twisted beneath Mottlerose's black and gold. Its teeth snapped in her direction, claiming a paw that had been left too close as a result of her attack.

The tortoiseshell yowled in pain, as it felt like dozens of canine teeth sunk into her paw. Instinctively in response, she struck back. The scruff of the creature had been left to her view, and her teeth went straight for that location. Her jaw clamped down as hard as she possibly could, the pain coursing through her leg only pushing her to bite harder, and harder. The raccoon squealed beneath her, releasing the paw from its maw.

Unluckily for the creature, Mottlerose had no intention of letting go. Even with the disgusting iron taste of blood on her tongue, she couldn't. If this vile creature was left running around, it would only be left to ruin another's day. Her day had certainly been ruined. Slowly, the life drained from the creature as her maw stayed clamped. It thrashed about for a short time, which only left more damage from her clamped down teeth.

As it went limp and seemed to drag her to the forest floor with its weight did Mottlerose finally let go, another loud wail of pain finally being released from the warrior as the adrenaline from the moment finally left and the true pain set in. Mousedung! She hissed, attempting to set the paw down and only being met with seething agony. She placed it in the snow in an attempt to clean it for the time being, hoping the cold would also soothe some of the pain as blood continued to weep from her wound.

Gathering her catch with a slow limp, Mottlerose hung her head and began her trek back to the camp. She needed to get that paw looked at sooner rather than later.
