leaping into a storm of spots [C]

Deerleap sat at the camp entrance, waiting for Spottedpaw to arrive. it was her first patrol as a warrior, and she was determined to make it memorable. she was snapped out of her thoughts as she noticed Spottedpaw heading her way. the white warrior grinned and replied, "Well, are you ready for a hunting patrol?"

Spottedpaw was walking out of the apprentices den and saw Deerleap sitting near the camp enterence. This would be a hunting patrol without Spottedpaw's mentor, as far as she knows unless her mentor decides to join later. "Yes Im ready. Should we go now? Spottedpaw asked Deerleap. She was a little envious because Deerleap had just completed her apprenticeship, but Spottedpaw wasn't quite finished with hers yet.

Deerleap nodded the led the way out of camp. she sensed that Spottedpaw was feeling sour towards her, and it didn't take a genius to figure out why. as such, the new warrior was careful to walk next to her companion. she opened her mouth to taste for scents. the cold froze the roof of her mouth, but she thought she scented vole. "Do you want to try that?" she offered to Spottedpaw, indicating with her tail to a pine tree where the vole was likely hiding.

Spottedpaw nodded, and then sniffed out the vole's scent then quietly made her way to the pine tree. When she caught view of the small rodent's form, she crouched into the hunter's crouch that her mentor taught her and then lept into the air, landing on the spot where the vole was sitting.

After a second, she stood up with a disappointed look as she had failed to catch the vole. "AH Foxdung.", Spottedpaw mumbled.

Spottedpaw attempted to catch a vole, but was unsuccessful.

Deerleap gave a reassuring flick of her ear. even the oldest warriors lost more catches than what they caught. it was all one forest, though. it'll come out another day. for now, the white warrior turned and scented the air. however, it was not prey scent that she scented. it was feathers...

the great brown bird hooted and dived towards her. it was only thanks to her quick reaction that Deerleap dodged those talons. "Watch out!" She called to Spottedpaw, before leaping and clawing at the bird.
