Time to Hunt [Open Hunting]

Starlingflare had lead a patrol out into the Thunderclan territory, unsure of why he was chosen for leading this patrol. While he liked others listening to him, he didn't really think of himself as a cat in good enough standing with the Deputy to earn this spot but he didn't. The dilute tortie glanced back at the others before pausing when he felt they reached a good enough spot. "This should be good enough. Let's try to catch a couple pieces each, then we can head back." The tom instructed waiting for the others to go off before he went to find something himself.

His first hunt as a warrior. Prickletail (no more ‘paw’ for him, thank you very much) puffed out his chest as he followed Starlingflare, looking about for prey. At the grey tom’s words, he nodded, turning his attention to the forest around them. It seemed every patrol he’d gone on as an apprentice had been interrupted by a fox (although he knew that was an exaggeration). Even so… he’d keep his ears and eyes open.

Slipping through the forest like a snake, he scented the air for prey. Hmm. Mouse. Stepping lightly, the mouse came into view. Prickletail dropped into his hunting crouch and crept slowly forwards, focused on the little rodent.
With a sudden burst of movement, he sprang forwards, crushing the mouse’s spine under his jaws. It probably never knew what hit it. After all, these were the same jaws that had taken down a fox (a young one, and he’d had help, but still.) With his prize dangling from his jaws, Prickletail headed back to rejoin the patrol, satisfied with his catch.

Applepaw was frustrated, waiting around for Minkstar to finally make her a warrior. She'd gone to the Moonstone yesterday, done all the hunting... what was left to do? Her brother had just been made a warrior, too. And of course he was on this patrol, too. She hoped beyond all hope that once she got back from the patrol, she could finally get her ceremony. For now though, she would take out her anger on any piece of prey she found. She couldn't get in trouble before her ceremony or it might be delayed.

She heeded Starlingflare's advice, immediately heading in the complete opposite direction from him and Prickletail. Instinctively scenting the air with the skills she'd been trained with, she sensed a squirrel a few fox-lengths away, hiding near the roots of a large oak tree. She lowered herself onto her haunches, concentrating, before pouncing with all the force of her pent-up emotion behind her. It almost escaped, but she managed to land on it, then kill it with a quick snap of her teeth. Hunting was.... satisfying. Something she could do well without being afraid of getting overwhelmed in the moment. Proud, and somewhat relieved, she trotted back to the group with her squirrel, noting with some satisfaction that it was larger than her brother's. She smiled innocently at him, gray eyes sparkling.

Applepaw tried to catch a squirrel and was successful.

Yellow eyes watched the other two head their own way, taking in their movements and what they did for a moment. Would either of these cats potentially take attention away from him? It was possible, and he didn't like that possibility, but there was nothing for him to do about it now. For now he would watch them grow.. and he would have to match that and more.

Starlingflare stepped off on his own, looking for anything that would be worth the catch. Something to take back to Thunderclan to amaze them. Eyes scanned the undergrowth before finally catching sight of a squirrel. The dilute tortie crouched low and crept forward until it was time to make the catch.

Oh, it was on. Prickletail knew his sister too well to suppose that her grey gaze was anything other than smug and challenging. He laid his mouse down and scraped dirt over it, flicking his tail and locking his gaze onto her. He was going to catch something that she could only dream of catching… and dream in vain. With a lash of his tail, Prickletail turned and leapt into a nearby tree, claws digging into the wood. Only the most skilled hunters dared climb the thick and tangled trees, and Prickletail was determined to prove that yes, he was the most skilled hunter in the Clan. After carefully picking his way through the trees for a while, rustling caught his ears… a rustling in the forest below.

Prickletail peeked over and saw the king of all hares nibbling daintily on the grass. It was enormous. How the Dark Forest did WindClanners stay so skinny if they caught these? He didn’t know… but he’d try to catch it. He steadied himself on a branch directly above it… but it must’ve heard something, for it took off, bounding away into the forest. Prickletail invoked the Dark Forest down on all hares under his breath, then, annoyed, slunk after it, following its scent. It seemed to be headed back to where he’d left the others… if Applepaw caught it… he didn’t know what he’d do but it wouldn’t be good.

Prickletail attempted to catch a hare, catch was unsuccessful.

It was finally time to do something for once OrangeHeart thought he had been laying around the entire day without doing anything else as he was watching around for prey as all the others he spotted where already caught by other cats as he spotted a squirrel he went for it
