Once again, there was one kit remaining in the nursery. Today, that would change, as Mothkit became an apprentice. Murkystrike had been watching the kit the last couple of moons, trying to get an idea of her personality. Thankfully, she thought she knew just the mentor for the quiet little she-cat. Jumping up to Jaggedrock, she swept her tail behind her as she lifted her voice to call the clan together. "ShadowClan! Gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock."
Mothkit's fur tingled at the sound of the clan deputy calling cats to the Jaggedrock. She had been sitting outside of the nursery for what seemed like a long while, too excited to wait inside. She padded over to sit in front of her. Her calico pelt was smooth and sleek, freshly groomed by her mother just earlier today.
Her amber eyes gleamed, and her whiskers twitched with excitement as she took a long look up at the deputy before bowing her dark head respectfully, waiting for the rest of the ceremony to take place.
Mothkit arrived, and Murkystrike smiled down at her before straightening to address the clan. "ShadowClan, I've gathered you here today to witness the naming of a new apprentice. Mothkit, please step forward." The deputy paused, allowing the kit to stand and step forward before continuing. "Mothkit, you have reached six moons of age, and so are ready to become an apprentice. Until the day your training is complete, you will be known as Mothpaw. Mistyfalcon will be your mentor. He is intelligent and brave, and I trust that he will pass these qualities on to you throughout your apprenticeship."
Mistyfalcon had joined the rest of the clan gathering beneath jaggedrock as Murkystrike's call rang across the clearing. There was only one kit she could be calling an apprentice ceremony for, and he watched as the little calico padded forward.
He was mildly surprised that his name was called, but offered his mate a quick smile before standing and padding toward the newly-named apprentice. "Congratulations, Mothpaw." Mistyfalcon said, lightly touching his nose to hers. "We'll start training tomorrow night. Use today to get settled in the apprentice den and get some rest." She'd need that rest, Shadowclan's territory was large, and the marshes required the attention of anyone who traveled through them.
Mothkit... No Mothpaw now, was tingling with excitement was her new mentor, Mistyfalcon, touched his nose to hers.
"I promise I'll do the best I can for my Clan!" she said as he did so, her words ringing out clear for which she was thankful. She didn't want her clanmates thinking she was too nervous.
