Fennelkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Froststone leaped up onto the Jaggedrock for the first time. He was proud to have been made deputy. The white tom was grateful that even in these dark times, there would be kits becoming apprentices. It brought new life into the clan, and kept it moving. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!"

Fennelkit strutted out into the open, her eyes shining with pride. It should be her ceremony today, and that was enough reassurance for just a bit of smugness; after all, you should be allowed to be proud when you go up in rank.
Finding a comfortable spot to sit, she settled down and stared up at Froststone, waiting for him to call her up, and excitement started to build up as every second went by. What was the forest like? What did it feel like to hunt prey? What did the other clans smell like? Actually, scratch that last one; they probably smelled like crowfood.

"Fennelkit, step forward." He enjoyed the way she strutted out. The deputy was glad that the kit was proud to become an apprentice. "You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. Fennelkit, from this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Fennelpaw. I will be your mentor. I will pass down all that I know to you." The deputy leaped off the rock, and padded over to his new apprentice, pressing his nose against hers. "I'll get you up tomorrow for training."

Fennelkit's grin grew even wider as the deputy himself announced that he would be mentoring her; what an honour! And a deputy would have knowledge and experience no warrior could compare to! Touching noses with him, she nodded and looked up into his face. She didn't want to be soppy or a suck-up, but she felt the need to thank him; if he hadn't conducted this ceremony, she'd still be stuck in that boring old nursery! She could almost feel the new atmosphere of the forest, taste the fresh air, inhale the new scents as she spoke.
"Thank you!"
