"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the tallbranch for a clan meeting!" Beechface's call rang out over Skyclan's camp. With Bloodstrike ill, she'd picked up filling in for apprentice ceremonies, and today's would be another one of Willowdance's kits.
She wanted for the clan to gather below, tail tip twitching as cats made their way over to the new tallbranch.
Rainy didn't have to move very far for the meeting- which she already knew was going to turn into her apprentice ceremony. She'd already been out of the nursery and near the Tallbranch by the time Beechface appeared to gather the clan. What had she been doing while she was waiting? Nothing much really. Just observing the way her clanmates worked and silently learning what duties she'd have the pleasure of doing soon. It's what she enjoyed doing. She liked being smart.
Softly releasing a puff of air from her nose as she got up from her comfortable spot, the lithe she-kit padded over to the front of the assembled group of cats and sat down once more. While she waited for everyone to quiet down so the medicine cat could begin, she took that opportunity to groom her pelt a bit so she wouldn't look like she'd been tumbling around foolishly. She normally didn't give a care about her appearance but this was a special occasion. She'll allow herself to look decently presentable. Besides, first impressions mattered, at least, it's what she's been learning as she studied her clanmates' relationships, platonic or not.
"Rainykit, step forward. You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to become an apprentice. From today until the day you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Rainypaw." Beechface began the ceremony with little fanfare once she'd spotted the lithe she-kit and her prospective mentor in the crowd.
"Quietstep will be your mentor. She is patient, and though a young warrior will teach you well." Her niece very much lived up to her name, and was a quiet and gentle cat. She hoped the two would mesh well together.
The newly-made apprentice nodded a grateful thank you to the medicine cat above and turned to look up at her mentor, Quietstep. She touched her nose to hers and stepped back with as much of a friendly smile as she could muster. It wasn't easy but she managed to not make it look awkward.
"Hello. I look forward to our time training together, Quietstep." Rainypaw greeted politely. "Will my training be starting tomorrow early?" she inquired with a cute tilt of her head. From what she'd observed, mentors usually woke up their apprentices at dawn or, at least, early in the morning to start the day training. She wasn't totally sure if her mentor will follow that trend but it never hurt to ask.
A mew of surprise escaped the warrior as her name was called. An apprentice, that she has to train?! She already had a hard time accepting her warrior name, now she had to help an apprentice get theirs? Oh, stars help her.
As she and Rainypaw touched noses, 'Quietstep' noticed how composed and, how polite Rainypaw acted. Maybe it won't be so hard to be a mentor. "O-oh uh t-training? Y-yea, w-we could s-start t-tomorrow." She answered, clearly nervous.
