Blustering winds ripped through high Greenleaf grasses, hiding the movements of a small group of WindClan cats. Sundown was still a few hours away, but cloudy skies left the territory’s colors darker, and muted. Deerhawk glanced back at the rest of the patrol. They’d have to turn back for their previously caught prey soon enough, lest something larger than a cat find and steal it. He wasn’t so generous as to feed the local foxes, no matter how cute their kits may be.
He came to a stop in a field filled with scraggly bushes. He’d come here season after season not for the nesting birds, although they were plentiful, but for the isolated rabbit warrens hidden beneath. The tom opened his silver-flecked maw, “This is a good spot. Go on.” He waved his tail as a signal to disperse and hunt.

The sun was slowly creeping towards it's resting place for the night, though the patrol of Windclanners wasn't quite done with their hunting yet. Swiftspirit followed after Deerhawk, content to say little as they made their way through the grasses. The wind ruffled her short fur and she closed her eyes briefly, inhaling deeply.
Rabbit. Ever-plentiful, and not the first one they'd caught today. One more for the fresh-kill pile wouldn't hurt their numbers at all, and with that in mind Swiftspirit turned into the breeze, following the scent. Soon the brown creature was in view, and the young warrior darted forward. The rabbit didn't see her until it was too late, and her fangs sank into the back of its neck. She turned to bury it quickly, before her gaze lifted to track her patrolmates with a cheery smile
Swiftspirit attempted to catch a rabbit. Catch was successful! 157 / 160 sp

Goldenpaw didn’t know what to think about Deerhawk, other than that he was kind of old. Swiftspirit, on the other paw, was bright and friendly and pretty. Goldenpaw liked hunting with her because she didn’t make fun of her when she missed her prey. It helped Goldenpaw pretend it never happened. A rabbit crossed her path as she split a little ways from the patrol. No doubt this was the rabbit’s last mistake.
She shot out from her cover of long grass and chased the rabbit a few fox lengths. Ahead was a burrow. She only had a few strides to catch up. Pushing herself even harder, the cream she-cat began to outpace her prey and snatched it by a hind leg, tumbling with it for a few tail lengths. In the end she came out on top - a swift bite and the rabbit’s movements ceased. Victory was Goldenpaw’s. -3 SP. 77/80 SP

It took everything in Fawnstep to follow at the heels of the elder warrior. He was never truly satisfied unless he was at the head of a patrol. Although, his expression didn't betray the frustrations, his fluffed tail flickered back and forth. When Deerhawk dismissed them, the tom shook out his coat and paused for a brief moment before trotting away.
Goldenpaw was not far off and he realized he'd subconsciously followed in her direction. The young she-cat had a spirit that he admired and relished it. Windclan needed more cats who were willing to do what it took to get things done. With her success, the warrior offered an approving nod. He glanced back over his shoulder, remembering Swiftspirit had headed off in her own direction. Fawnstep knew little of the she-cat and held nothing against her, but he didn't care to dwell on that much now anyways.
Dismissing other thoughts in an instant, the tom's bright blue gaze darted to follow a flicker of brown fur. A target. With the true grace and ease of a Windclan cat, Fawnstep shot forward. Within a brief moment, the warrior caught up to the creature and caught it between his claws. There was one swift motion as his teeth sunk into the soft flesh, feeling the fur and tangy blood seep into his mouth. It was tempting and flavorful. But for some cat back into camp later.
When he turned to rejoin the crowd, it seemed they were all successful. One ear swiveled ever so slightly, acknowledging the patrol leader, "Seems like an easy day for a hunt. Good thing, huh, Deerhawk?"
Fawnstep attempted to catch a rabbit. It was successful! [-3 SP]

With the others dispersed, Deerhawk stood and listened for anything out of place. It took great practice to pick out the difference between grass rustling in the wind and something passing through it. Several minutes passed as he let the sounds and scents blow past him. Enough time had gone by for his Clanmates to return, each apparently victorious, even if their prey wasn’t currently hanging from their maws. He gave an approving nod to young Goldenpaw. She seemed to get better by the day. He tilted his head upwards at Fawnstep’s words to look above the bowing seed heads. “Aye. Good weather for a good chase.”
Though he was still listening, he spotted a lark emerging from the safety of a thorn bush and landing amongst the grass tuffets. He silently left the group with a focused stare, his paws flitting over the dry dirt with little sound. With little to cover him he had little choice but to rush forward with a bounding leap, hoping to snatch the bird out of the air if it tried to flee.
Success.
His paw caught its delicate wing as it frantically tried to fly up and away. He swiftly ended its life before it could make too much noise and alert the others to the cats’ presence. Though whether to keep hunting or to go back and gather what prey they’d already caught, he wasn’t sure which would be best.
