Copperfox was recovering from his injury fairly well, though it didn't stop him from feeling guilty about needing to use herbs from Beechface's dwindling stock. He'd convinced her that he was well enough to at least help gather herbs and replace what he had taken. Of course, he planned to carry as many herbs as his mouth possibly could and even try to stick some in his fur if need be. "Just tell me what to look for and I'll find it." He promised his sister. Bloodstrike had been out cold when they left, seemingly very content after a dose of poppy seeds. It bothered Copperfox that it seemed to be the only thing he asked for and the only thing that genuinely seemed to work. But he wasn't a medicine cat. He wasn't about to tell Beechface how to do her job.
They came to the ridge and Copperfox noticed immediately that new-leaf was showing signs it was on it's way. Fresh greenery poked up all over the ridge, with only traces of melting snow left. Finding herbs would hopefully be easy.
6 [very useful, rare, max 3]: Chickweed, Coltsfoot, Comfrey Root 4-5 [relatively useful, max 4]: Juniper Berries, Marigold, Poppy Seeds, Tansy 2-3 [common, everyday, max 6]: Burnet, Chamomile, Cobwebs, Daisy, Sorrel 1 [poisons or nothing]: Nothing
"The list of what I don't need might be shorter." Beechface said as she led her brother towards the rocky ridge that overlooked twolegplace. He'd seen the extent of her herb stores before leaving camp, and they were pitiful. Marigold, thyme, tansy, goldenrod... Poppy seeds. And that last item worried her. She'd dearly love to know just what exactly the Asylum had done to her father that he was mind-numbingly dependent on them. He was doing a little bit better, but he was nowhere near close to being free of her den, much as he wanted to be. Personally Beechface thought the day wouldn't come soon enough, she'd almost forgotten what a stubborn mousebrain her father was, and that stubbornness did not make for an easy patient. It made her want to rip the rest of his fur off, actually.
To make things worse, the medicine den was more full than she'd ever seen it. Bloodstrike, Foxfire (and wasn't that going to be an unhappy situation), Blossomstep... At least her brother and grandmother would be clear to leave the den sooner rather than later. Copperfox had insisted on coming along, and it hadn't taken much for Beechface to relent. The medicine den was full of miserable company, and she wouldn't want to be stuck in it for long either. The thought made her tail twitch as the siblings continued to walk through the dreary landscape. With the snow melting, there were starting to be more signs of life throughout the forest, at least.
"If you promise to take it easy, I'll let you out of my den early." she offered, frowning as she spotted a bright red flower. She approached and began to carefully harvest the poppy seeds, though she wasn't particularly thrilled about how quickly they were likely to be used.
"I am fairly convinced that I am the most easy-going of your siblings. I'd dare say I have a more mild personality than Primroselight." He stuck his tongue out at her, hoping to lighten the mood. Miserable company was an understatement. He was tired of how emotionally unstable his family had become lately. It was almost like the asylum hadn't left...
He spotted a plant that looked out of place to him and he approached it. He bent his head down to give it a whiff... and boy was that a powerful plant stink. "Is this something you need?" He asked, sitting in front of it and waiting for Beechface to give it a gander.
Beechface smirked at her brother, feeling her mood lighten a bit at his humor.
"She'd agree with you." That was Primroselight, agreeable, sweet, not insane like the rest of the family seemed to be.
The medicine cat spotted a small clump of tansy between some rocks, and harvested some of the plant, leaving enough to let the plant continue to grow. She heard Copperfox call to her and turned, trotting over to where her brother stood.
"Juniper berries, good find." She mewed, affectionately bumping his shoulder with her head. A few of the berries were added to the slowly growing pile of herbs, and Beechface had to admit it was nice to have her brother along.
