Backs to the Wall [closed]

Sunningrocks, where he had met Wisteriabloom the first time, was covered in shining and rather slippery ice. The fur between his pawpads was no match for the way they sent him gliding across each and every stone. Any chance of stealth was long forgotten here. She was near him now, only leagues away... if only he could get his footing. At least he had a motive to show off to his guard as his legs skipped and jumped around the frosted landscape.

"You again," he snarled, trying not to giggle compulsively at the goofy sprawling of his four limbs. "Mice like you don't deserve these rocks, you know. Not enough prey to go around."

Beecloud waited only a moment for confirmation before he made his first move, striking out with a mostly-soft paw across Wisteriabloom's face. He began to drive her backwards with his hulking mass, and their war dance moved nearer and nearer to the edge of the river, sand becoming damp under their paws. "StarClan has spoken to me. I believe they've given me the last pieces we needed to wage war and destroy the Asylum. We might be in the endgame after all. If this is going to work, we need to move fast and talk even faster. Are you ready for the nightmare to end, or what?"

Wisteriabloom had started spending a lot more time at Sunningrocks alone, and she hoped that her reasoning wasn't too obvious. Today, she had stayed off the rocks in fear of slipping and injuring herself, and instead sat by the river, fishing. She didn't expect Beecloud to come on a day where the ground was so icy, yet here he was. She could hear the large warrior struggling across the ice, but at first pretended not to notice. Before long, she whipped around, ready to spar, but instead had to bite her lip to stop herself laughing. The Thunderclanner's paws clearly weren't obeying him, which meant that this would lead to an interesting play fight.

"Mice? Only frog-brained warriors like you bother with mice. The river does fine for us!" She felt extremely stupid after she said that, since the river behind themes half-frozen, but no-one else around them would care. It wasn't that easy for a Riverclanner like her to easily slip 'mouse' into a conversation. "Really, you did it?" Wisteriabloom said, surprised that they had finally got through to StarClan.

"Yes!" She said, eager to move their plan along, "What did they say?" Knowing Starclan, it'll probably be annoying and cryptic, won't it? Why can't they ever give us a straight answer?

"I wish I could say it was super helpful," he admitted, rolling onto his side (or, if he was more honest, falling) and kicking up at Wisteriabloom's face. "They said, 'To kill a snake, you must cut off its head. The viper makes her den where Silverpelt shines brightest.'"

He let the words sit in the she-cat's mind as they continued to spar. They were difficult, and she deserved a moment as he had gotten to decipher what she believed they meant. Who knew? Maybe the answer she came to would be better than his. Beecloud grunted as he struggled back up to his paws, recovering from the chill of ice and sleet on his back and shaking out his thick pelt. "So, I decided... they must mean Fourtrees. That's where we have to go, all together, and 'cut off the Asylum's Head.' Their literal head! Their leader! Have you met her yet? This big tortoiseshell, they call her Eris. She's got the paw thing." He waved his paw at her, flexing all his extra toes. "Kind of like mine. Extra lines on my face, see? We have to go there, take back Fourtrees, and capture Eris. I think it'll be the push we needed to dig ourselves out of this hole. In a quarter moon, we'll meet along the northern Thunderpath at Moonhigh... and that'll be it."

Beecloud grabbed both of her shoulders. "Any questions yet?"

"Yep, annoyingly secretive, just as I expected." Wisteriabloom sighed, but it was quickly cut off by Beecloud's gentle kick at her face.

She reared up on her hind legs and gently slashed at her opponents face, careful not to catch his newer scars.. Her mind was still trying to make sense of what she had been told. This is going to be fun to try and explain to everyone else. Nothing could ever be simple, could it? "That's not going to be easy. Capture the head? She's probably surrounded by guards at all time." It wasn't fun to be the pessimistic one, but this mission could literally be the death of them if they underestimated anything. "But I'll be there. I guess sometimes we've gotta run before we can walk." Wisteriabloom didn't exactly know what she expected their first move to be, but definitely not something this big.

"I suppose you want me to tell Windclan then, right?" What am I getting myself into? No, she couldn't afford to have doubts now. It would be dangerous, but just living their everyday lives was dangerous in these times. "So Thunderpath at Moonhigh... I guess everything would work if everyone makes it. I know I asked last time, but how are the numbers looking?" Maybe she was worrying too much, but she had things to loose everyone did.

"As far as I can tell, there's two, maybe three, from every clan," he said in a wind, catching his breath as he fought the elements of ice and snow. "Enough for a sizeable battle patrol. Don't worry too much about guards. We'll probably have enough to cover all of them, StarClan willing. If we don't... I'll take the fall, and the rest of you will have to scatter. Better to lose one than let them take us all. And I won't make any of you face Eris herself, at least not alone."

In a normal battle, this would be where Beecloud and Wisteriabloom would part ways, fleeing to either side of their territory, spatting insults and jeers behind their shoulders. But not today. He couldn't go without delivering to her the last piece of his news, but something about their last encounter made him hesitate. It stuck burrs in the lining of his feeble stomach, and he paused. Lips curling uncomfortably, Beecloud cleared his throat and leaped upon the she-cat, pulling her into his claws.

"There's one more thing," he whispered closely. "You cannot react. They cannot know you know. Listen to me, Wisteriabloom... the missing kittens... yours... they never left the forest."

He grabbed her tighter. "A WindClan-based nightstriker crossed my path this moon. We got into an argument, and, when her hood fell off I recognized her. I knew her face. She was Laurelkit, from ThunderClan. She's the age of a young warrior now, but I knew that coat like the day she went missing. She called herself Thalia. She had no idea who she was... I don't think any of them do."

Beecloud swallowed hard. "They took them, they raised them up, and they put them in clans where nobody would know them. There could be RiverClan kits in my camp now, but I wouldn't know it. Neither would they. I don't know what to do about it, and I doubt you do, either. But you need to know, and so does the rest of the forest. The missing kits are here."

Beecloud used Teeth Grip. Active for one turn.

Right there on the spot, Wisteriabloom felt her heart shatter into a million pieces.

We need them out. Now. Honestly, she probably would've had a better reaction if she found little Snakekit's dead body herself. They've been right under our noses this entire time. "No..." She whispered, but kept her promise and tried not to physically react. So this is what it was like to have your world crumble at your feet. I should've never left her side. I should've never trusted Eos one tiny bit, either. "I should go soon... I don't know how long I can keep this up... I-In light of recent events." She didn't think it was physically possible to hate Asylum more than she already did, but tears were already beginning to well up and dampen her face.

She dealt Beecloud one more gentle blow before slipping out of his grip to retreat. "I'll see you soon."

"A-And if you see a golden she-cat with green eyes, can you tell me she's safe and well?"
