| Rainkit was growing wider before growing taller, and his little fuzzy body waddled on the grasses towards the medicine den. He was a nosy fellow, perhaps too much so. He smiled at the passing cats, including the rogues.
He noticed that the last time that Softbreeze was in the nursery checking on the kits, she looked rather sad. And Rainkit wasn’t going to stand for that! Everyone needed a smile every now and then.
Rainkit tripped on his paws and landed on his belly. He giggled and rose to his paws, now next to the medicine den. It smelled of varieties of herbs that he couldn’t identify.
“Hello, Softbreeze,” he chirped, wiggling. “What’re you up to?” |

| Softbreeze was not the same Softbreeze she'd been a moon prior. Dark circles lines her eyes, and they were starting to look more purple than blue due to the redness of them. Her cheek were permanently tearstained, eyes always puffy. It had been so long since she smiled, the molly herself didn't know if she remembered how.
There was nothing worth smiling about.
When she was alone, nothing held her back from sobbing. It echoed off the walls and filled the silence of camp. She knew every other cat knew, but she couldn't be helped. Nowadays it was silent chokes, unable to form any tears to shed. Not even the words Galestar had told her seemed to help. Downtuft had already tried that, repeating the phrase to her everytime he saw her. It wasn't the same. How could she stand tall and proud after murdering an innocent cat?
Lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice the kit behind her.
Her voice was raspy and monotone, lacking any real enthusiasm. "Thinking," she muttered, plainly, saying nothing else. She shifted to look down at him, hoping that from below she didn't look as horrible as she felt. ______________________________________ Storm(paw), ThunderClan Runaway l Sneezingpaw, RiverClan l Downtuft, WindClan l Whisperingkit, WindClan |

| Rainkit looked up at her, and he gave a small frown. She looked positively exhausted. Not knowing fully where her guilt came from, he leaned and attempted to give a head bonk to her. “Being sad is hard,” he meowed quietly, looking to the side. “But being sad doesn’t last forever.” Rainkit gave a weak smile to the medicine cat.
He looked at her, noting her exhaustion. She was thoroughly drained. “Are you scared to go to sleep? One time one of the queens told me a scary story and I had to have the other kits keep watch. Do you want me to watch while you’re asleep?”
He puffed himself out, a cloud of dark grey fur, and mewed, “See? I could keep watch!” |
