Time for Trouble (closed)

She shouldn't do this. The apprentice stared out beyond the camp entrance. It was newleaf, hunting was plentiful, so why was she here? She glanced back at camp where cats lazed in the sun or groomed, a couple kits played outside the nursery. The bright sunlight left warm patches of ground that lay inviting... but she shook herself out of it. No, this was no time for sunning. Sparrowpaw's ears flattened as she practically heard her father's voice scorning them. They were being lazy and wasting opportunity. It was pathetic, selfish and stupid.

Just like most of the clan. With a firm nod, Sparrowpaw stepped out from the camp and padded to the nearest tree. The leap to the branches and the climb were easy. Tough claws tore into bark like leaves and she smirked as she balanced herself. This was their element. This was the sky, and she would hunt in it. The memory of Rippedstar speaking of rogues and don't go alone rang clearly in her mind, a flick of the tail dismissing it haughtily. If she was up here, there was no need to worry about rogue down there.

Sparrowpaw leapt from the tree branch gracefully, her body twisting slightly when it needed to compensate as she began to fly. To take in the wind and rushing branches around her. No other cat to trip her up, or to worry about making noise. Just her and the quiet and peace of her own mind.

Having been one of those supposedly lazy cats relaxing in the warm Newleaf sun, Tinylegs perked his ears as his peripheral vision caught sight of some-cat leaving clan. That some-cat, happened to be an apprentice. While he wasn't Sparrowpaw's mentor, it didn't look like any other cat had noticed the she-cat's departure, and so he decided that he would investigate. Standing up from where he laid, the tiny white tom gave his short hind legs a stretch and let out a yawn.

Making his way out of camp, the warrior looked followed Sparrowpaw's scent and luckily for him, she hadn't gone very far. With her scent leading to a tree and stopping there, Tinylegs looked up, assuming she was above the ground. Sure enough, there she was, hopping around the branches like a squirrel. Following her from the ground bellow and staying silent, he waited for her to take a breather and then spoke up.

"What might you be doing up there?" the small, cheery tom asked from under her, a smile on his muzzle as his long tail flicked back and forth.

The sound of Tinyleg's voice startled Sparrowpaw. The she-cat winced as a claw snagged in the bark in her momentary lapse of concentration. Her ears flattened in embarrasment as she huffed and looked down at the tiny tom with an annoyed glare.
"I'm getting ready to hunt." She explained confidently, sitting down on her tree branch. "Not all of us want to sit and lounge in the sun, prey still needs to be caught." She turned then, jumping off to a new branch and proceeding to try travelling away from the smaller tom.

Suddenly she paused, then looked back at him. His little white pelt stuck out against the stone and grass on the ground.
"You should go back, you're too tiny to be of any use out here." She yowled, her tail flicked dismissively as she made a lunge for a new tree. Once she had made several leaps, she paused. A shadow flitted in the sun, and a blink revealed a bird not too far ahead. It was sitting on a slightly higher branch, so Sparrowpaw had to be careful. Cautiously, she made her way higher than the bird and began to creep very slowly. There was a large gap between the trees, and she'd have to be careful about this.

Still, she was the daughter of Sedgestrike if any cat could do this, it was her. Slowly, she crept closer, then leapt. Her body shadowing out the sun for a brief moment as she crashed onto the branch where the bird was perched. It tried to flutter away, but she quickly struck it with a paw, then watched in despair as it landed not in the tree, but fell to the forest floor. Her ears flattened in dissapproval. Now she had to go down and get it.

IC: Listening to the apprentice and continuing to look up at her from down bellow, Tinylegs' ears perked when she made a snarky comment about his size. While other cats might have taken such a comment into offense, the little tom couldn't help but smile. Yeah, he was small, but there was nothing he could do about, and it wasn't something that he was going to let bring his spirit down.

Watching as she hunted a nearby bird, the white warrior trotted over to where it landed and waited for her to join him. "Nice catch," he mewed cheerfully, his tail flicking back and forth every so often. Waiting for the apprentice to join him, Tinylegs thought of something that the two of them could do that Sparrowpaw would most likely enjoy taking part of.

"Why don't we have a hunting contest?" he mewed as she most likely reluctantly joined him on the forest floor. "First cat to catch three pieces of prey and bring them back to this spot wins," the small white warrior purred with a firm nod, looking up at the apprentice. He didn't care if she wanted to or not. If she was going to be so cocky about it, then she might as well put her skills to the test.

Not even waiting for her reply, for it would've most likely been negative, Tinylegs bounded away from the younger cat. Picking up the pace, he pushed off with his hind legs and leapt onto a nearby tree. Shimmying up the trunk, he made his way up to some stable branches. Giving his pelt a shake, he flexed his claws and lifted his nose to sniff the air around him. Bird.

Crouching down (although it wasn't like he really needed to), he spotted the grey and red feathered piece prey just a few branches away. Stalking forward and keeping his head and long tail low, Tinylegs waited a few moments before pouncing. For a cat his size, one wouldn't think he could hunt like regular cats, but when it came down to it, he wasn't that much different than any other cat, maybe just slightly clumsier. Of course he'd had to adapt to his challenges when he was younger, but he was managing enough to be able to support the clan.

Leaping onto the branch that the bird sat chirping on, oblivious to the threat that was behind it, Tinylegs stretched out his little leg as far as it could reach and smacked the bird's head with a pawful of sharp claws. The bird, surprised from suddenly being struck, let out a screech of pain, but lunging forward, Tinylegs grabbed onto its neck with his jaw and quickly put an end to the frantic animal.

Releasing it from his grasp, he let it fall to the ground and gave his pelt a shake, enjoying the warm scent of blood that lingered on his lips. Let the games begin!
