Wild and Free [closed]

It was another hot day of the dry season, and being so hot so early Summer knew it could only get worse. She was grateful for her somewhat thin and pale-colored pelt, but even she was feeling a little put off by the heat radiating through her coat. She was second-guessing if the moor was the best place to be; while there were some very pleasant breezes that cut through occasionally, there was a distinct lack of shelter or shade. Still, Summer wondered if perhaps she might run into Olivestone to see about that visit with Morningdove. If she was still alive, at least - the drifter wasn't certain how any cat could keep someone in a deep sleep breathing, but the gray tabby Summer had met certainly seemed like she, of all cats, would manage to do so. Beyond hope - and with a little more care than she usually granted an attractive stranger - the she-cat expected her WindClan friend to recover.

The flame-pointed cream loner moved at a steady pace on the grasses, ignoring any birds or rodents or lapins that fled from her approach. She was hungry, for she hadn't found anything in the upwalker settlement before setting out, but she knew better than to hunt on Clan land, especially a Clan she liked so much. Summer rarely found herself lost in thought, for distracted cats were often defeated cats, yet her gaze slipped over the rolling hills before her, and her mind drifted as she sought the camp she'd been invited to but never shown or seen.

It was in the early hours of the day, and Wildflower needed to hunt. Although she usually preferred to hunt at sunhigh, when rabbits tended to be hopping around, it was far too warm for that. The speckled molly flicked her tail as she crossed through the camp, which was beginning to buzz with activity. Even though it was the morning, sunbeams radiated onto the open more easily, with no cover to stop it. Wildflower silently thanked herself for her short and wiry coat. She had yet to experience a leaf-bare and was sure it would be annoying then, but she wasn’t in the future yet, and had to focus on the present.

Inhaling, hoping for a few hares or rabbits, Wildflower almost choked on what she scented instead. She had never scented a loner on WindClan territory. But she had to challenge them right? Or, a she-cat, by what she could tell from the scent. Careful to keep quiet, Wildflower ghosted up the slope, paws trembling slightly. The last fight she’d had hadn’t gone too well, accidentally making a false accusation because of the wind, but there weren’t many cool breezes present at the moment. Plus, this was at the heart of their territory. She had to be scenting it right. The loner scent grew stronger, and Wildflower stopped, ducking under a gorse tangle. Her ears pricked, trying to gauge her opponent’s movement. Ah, the times where sight was useful. The speckled molly finally pinpointed the loner and sprinted up the slope with fabled WindClan speed, catching the loner on what she assumed was her back, careful not to cause any major injuries. Despite Wildflower’s wiry build, she was able to push her opponent over, due to the momentum she’d built up by running. Only bruises would come from the rough warning shove. Perhaps this loner didn’t know she was on WindClan territory, or something of the sort. Wildflower didn’t want to really hurt her until she knew. “E-excuse me, but you’re on W-windclan territory... if you didn’t k-know... you need to l-leave.” Oh, great. The stutter was back again. Despite being the authoritative figure here, Wildflower still didn’t sound confident. Well, hopefully the loner would leave.

And she quickly realized the error of her wandering mind as she was roughly shoved off balance. With a spit of fury, Summer felt a nimble force shove off her back, throwing her onto her side on the ground. Reflexively she twisted, managing to connect a sheathed paw to some part of the attacker's body, though Summer wasn't sure what. Hot, hungry, and uncomfortable, the normally easy-going loner scrabbled on the earth, springing to her paws, and whipped around to glare at the scarred face of the she-cat who'd attacked her. "I wasn't born yesterday," Summer snapped, ginger tail lashing, "I know exactly where I am, and I'm here on purpose." The other she-cat's eyes were ghostly still until the scars, and Summer realized that the WindClan cat was blind - blind and still determined to start a fight and chase her off, if necessary? Great. Summer bristled and declared, "I wasn't doing anything wrong, darling, and I think you should be ashamed of yourself for jumping to aggressive conclusions!"
