Shadekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Stormbringer jumped up on the Willow Branch calling out to her clan shortly after. "Let all cats old enough to swim gather here for a clan meeting!" It was weird to go from naming many apprentices all at once to naming so little but she was glad Shadekit reached six moons. Another apprentice to help their ranks.

Shadekit silently glanced up from where he was sitting near a shining trickle of a stream, watching the minnows. He padded quietly over to the gathered cats, sitting near his mother, Doeleap. She began ferociously licking his head, and he nuzzled her. When cats gazed at him, smiling, he realized it was his ceremony. Slightly smiling, he gazed at Stormbringer, waiting. (Also, if she doesn't have an apprentice already, Streamtail would be a pretty good mentor.)

Stormbringer's eyes shined as the kit had noticed it was his ceremony. She was glad he knew. The gray deputy continued to speak as soon as the others had gathered. "Today we are gathered to name another apprentice. Shadekit please come forward." Stormbringer waited for a moment for the old kit to come forward. "Shadekit from this moment on, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Shadepaw. Your mentor, will be Streamtail. I hope she passes all she knows to you." With that the deputy jumped off the branch to end the ceremony.

Streamtail blinked, surprised. Her? She was going to be Shadepaw’s mentor? My very first apprentice...this is great! Grinning in excitement, Streamtail immediately dashed towards her new apprentice, pressing her nose lightly to his. “We’re going to be starting tomorrow, at sunrise. Have a good night’s sleep and rest well.”

Shadepaw's smile grew as he heard Streamtail's name. He was no longer an annoying kit, but a worthy
apprentice.

He padded forward and tapped his nose to Streamtail's. After she spoke, he nodded happily, holding his tail a bit higher than usual. This is going to be great. He thought, his usually blunt emotions fading. I can't wait to begin my training.
