Applefang had signed up for the hunting game as an idea to take his mind of things. He wasn’t ready to be a warrior, or a father, or a mate, but he could hunt. Plus, some of his family was here and he wanted to join them. He watched as his clanmates tried to hunt, and finally decided to try it himself. He wanted to start easy, with a fish. He bent down, and tried to remember the training he had, under his father.

As he caught the fish, he flung it quickly onto the shore, the medium-sized fish laid dead on the ground. He smiled, and waited for the next cat to attempt a catch.

Streamtail padded away from the stream, hoping to just catch more mice. She sniffed the air, immediately spotting one. Bunching up her haunches, she leaped, trapping the unfortunate mouse under her paw. It wriggled around, trying to escape, before she killed it with a blow in the head. Trotting to her circle quickly, she dropped her second piece of prey into the circle before dashing away again.

Fernpaw kept stalking around, trying to find some prey. She tasted the air, then caught the sent of frog. She got in her hunting position, ready to pounce. She leapt! She swiftly killed it and ran back to put it in her pile.

Nightwolf ran off towards the stream again and crouched down. He put his head down into the water to try and catch a fish. The fish swam around and he opened his jaws and caught a the slippery fish. He then ran back and dropped it in his circle. Before running out.

…Or maybe he’d stick to this. Sure, he struggled with land hunting more than any cat trained by Stormbringer herself could admit—but then he reminded himself how impressive it’d be if he managed to do it right in front of his father, brothers, old denmates, and Ivystar, and that thought banished his doubts for good. Snowflight lifted his muzzle. A fresh scent drifted past his nose. Just ahead, a small brown creature darted through the reeds. Water vole, he thought with a grin as he sank into another, more careful crouch. The water vole paused; the hunter advanced. Unfortunately, even the softest steps couldn't disguise a blindingly white pelt. As he sprang, the water vole took off toward its burrow, and Snowflight's perfect pounce brought his claws just short of his prey's furry tail. Frustration was harder to weather the second time around. Certain Addershade and the others wouldn't hear him, he couldn't quite bite back a whisper of "Oh, frog-dung."

Snowflight attempted to catch Rodent, using 3 stamina. The attempt was a failure…

Addershade decided not to try to continue chasing after the escaped toad and turned his attention instead to the scent of a mouse, following along with it until he spotted the little creature. For a second he entertained the idea of abandoning the search for land prey and going over the river to catch fish, which he was sure he'd succeed at without much issue. But that would be contrary to the spirit of the exercise; or at least, what he was trying to make of it: a chance to challenge himself and not run away. So he readied himself into a hunter's crouch, and sprung at the rodent, hoping for the best. To his own surprise, he landed perfectly, catching the mouse between his claws. Whether or not he caught any other prey today, the fact that he'd taken a risk (at least, what qualified as a risk in his mind) and it had payed off even this much meant this day was an absolute success.

Addershade used 3 SP to try and catch a mouse. Catch was successful!

"FINISH!" Fernpaw yowled. She went through to each pile and looked at them. "In first place we have.... Streamtail! Congrats! And in second... oh! It seems we have a tie. Between Addershade and Ivystar! If none of you can admit defeat, we will have a hunt off!" Fernpaw had been really happy about all of this, and she still is! She would love to see a hunt off, but that may not be happening...

Addershade waited by his prey as the apprentice surveyed all the "competitors" piles.

“Ah, a hunt off…?” Addershade said, a little apprehensive about the idea of competing directly against someone, as opposed to as one of a group-- and especially against the clan leader. “Well, I-- I’m fine with simply calling it a tie, but...if we need to do a “hunt off”, I suppose that’s fine with me...I'll do my best.”
