Mistkit's Apprentice Ceremony

It seemed only yesterday that Blossomstep was bringing their kits into the world, and now the first one was ready for their apprentice ceremony. The deputy's chest was tight with emotion as he stared down at the rest of the camp from atop the Tallbranch, voice lifting, ringing out to summon the clan. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting!"

His long tail waved behind him, amber eyes betraying his excitement as curious expressions greeted him from below.

Mistkit slowly padded out of the nursery, slightly worried about today. Wow...so many cats are here... She scanned her hazel eyes around the crowd, slightly nervous. Her father was sitting on the Tallbranch, and Mistkit nodded at him. Sighing, she walked under the Tallbranch and sat down patiently.

Was she old enough to catch her own prey? Well- not quite (not that she'd had the chance to try yet, of course). Was she going to miss an apprentice ceremony? Absolutely not. Time really had flown by, and soon enough it'd be time for Firekit's own ceremony (and with a glance to the crowd, she hoped it'd be a little more subdued of an affair than this), but she had a feeling this was for someone else entirely; and with the look of pride and warmth in Wolfcall's face, there was only one... well, okay, no, there were a fair few cats who it could've been, she had a lot of siblings, but- okay, fine, maybe she'd done some investigating and learned Mistkit's ceremony was today. (She'd still yet to figure out the mentor, much to her chagrin.)

So Firekit simply inclined her head in the direction of her older sister and her father, saying nothing- but her gaze carried with it admiration and approval. Good luck, her eyes seemed to say to the other kit. You'll do great.

Wolfcall smiled reassuringly down at his daughter, trying to convey his love and support through the simple gesture. Mistkit was the quietest of the litter, rather shy and withdrawn, but yet it was she who was ready for her apprentice ceremony first. Nodding down at her, his gaze swept the crowd, searching for the cat he'd chosen to be Mistkit's mentor.

"Mistkit," he called, meeting her gaze once again. "You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed." The deputy dipped his head. "From this day forward, until the day you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Mistpaw. Your mentor will be Foxfire."

In the moons previous, Wolfcall had taken his duties as deputy seriously, watching the kits and learning who would fit them best as mentors. There was no doubt that Foxfire, Wolfcall's own mentor, would be an exceptional guide into warriorhood for Mistpaw, and there were few that the tom trusted more than Foxfire.

Mistkit gulped as she looked at her sister, Firekit. Offering her a small smile, Mistkit padded up to her mentor, Foxfire. Turning her head back, she watched her father, a tiny bit of nervousness and fear in her hazel eyes. Then she faced her mentor again, Foxfire, and touched noses with him. “I hope I make you proud.” She whispered, barely audible. She was Mistpaw now...an apprentice.

Foxfire's tattered ears perked up as his name was mentioned, blinking in a bit of surprise as he looked up at Wolfcall. It had been...Quite a while since he had an apprentice, he had just started to assume that perhaps it was just better not to assume that he would be getting any. His tail-nub twitched as he ducked his head in thanks to the deputy, standing up to meet the newly named Mistpaw half-way. "Oh don't worry," he purred as they touched noses, eyes glimmering. "I'm sure you will do great. I'll be proud of you no matter what."
