Oakkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Another day, another ceremony. A soft sigh escaped Foxfire as he sat perched on the Tallbranch, wearily watching the ground beneath him. He had been slowly growing used to the heights - he still tried to avoid climbing trees but...Well, at least he could do ceremonies without panicking every second of them. He shook his head, clearing his throat as he raised his voice for the Clan to hear. “Let all cats old enough to climb trees gathering beneath the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting!”

Oakkit's head shot out of the nursery at the call. Her mother had been grooming her practically all day and it was driving her NUTS. She darted out of the nursery and managed to be the first cat to answer the call for the cats.

He waited quietly as he watched the Clan gather, claws slightly digging into the bark beneath him until he spotted brown she-cat. “Oakkit, please step forward,” he called, letting his eyes scan the gathered cats for who he had decided would be a suitable mentor for her. “Oakkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Oakpaw. Your mentor will be Wolfcall. I hope Wolfcall will pass down all he knows on to you.” There was a flicker of joy of giving Wolfcall his first apprentice - he was a newly named warrior but he had faith that he would do just fine with Oakpaw, excited to see how well his previous apprentice would be at mentoring.

Wolfcall had been lingering around camp when he heard the deputy's summons. Interest piqued, he headed over to sit and listen, long tail curled around his paws. Judging by the dark brown kit groomed to a sleek shine below Foxfire, he judged this as being an apprentice ceremony - and he was right!

What he didn't expect was for himself to end up as a mentor, however, and when Foxfire first announced it, Wolfcall was stunned. He blinked several times, his gaze falling to the she-kit, and then let a heavy purr throb from his throat as he padded forward to touch noses with her.
