Rabbit's Foot and Lucky Clover

It was yet another dull, cold, glum leaf-bare morning. It was always days like these where Rabbitpaw felt incredibly bored. He wanted to do nothing more than turn in for the entire day and just sleep. But at the same time, he knew very well what dangers leaf-bare brought upon the forest, starvation being one of the major ones. He couldn't afford to sleep the day away when there was hunting to be done.

The problem was, he couldn't seem to find anyone to hunt with. Well, he supposed he could, but he didn't really want to. It wasn't that he was shy, he just didn't really like talking to other cats. But he knew he couldn't go out all on his own without at least one warrior at his side. What if he were jumped on by a predator or enemy cat? He'd need backup if that were the case.

Finally, he decided to stand by the entrance of camp, staring out at the different colored coats of his Clanmates as they rose from their dreams and began preparing themselves for another day of survival in WindClan. Perhaps one of them would approach him and offer to bring him out to hunt.

"Are you looking to hunt? I was getting ready to head out." With Grousepaw engrossed in a variety of apprentice tasks around camp, the russet warrior's light pawsteps stopped beside the apprentice. Her paws were itching to run across the moorlands. Even as frost began to kill the grass that covered the slopes, Brookclover still found herself undeterred from facing the brutal gusts of wind. The longer fur of her pelt kept the freeze at bay, to some degree. Brookclover glanced down at the younger cat, "Rabbitpaw, right? We probably won't find much but it is worth the attempt." Without waiting for a response, the young warrior lead the way out into the territory and called him forward with a flick of her tail.

Rabbitpaw looked at Brookclover as she approached him, fixing her with his cool ice-blue eyes that also glimmered with a sense of respect to the older, more experienced cat, keeping silent as she spoke as to not interrupt her or speak out of turn. At her offer, he nodded his acceptance and turned to follow the molly out of camp, letting her take the lead shamelessly. He knew it would be his turn one day to lead a patrol once he became a warrior, but until then he was content with bringing up the rear as he was supposed to.

She missed his nod of acceptance as she trotted out into the greyscaled territory. Although the molly was in a fair mood, the lack of light from above was rather disheartening. Even though a chill had fallen over the forest, there had been days the rays of sunlight touched the frost-laden lands. Brookclover had grown accustomed to navigating the snow with steady albeit light footfalls. As she set out, the she-cat found it less easy to leap through the drifts that had accumulated. The warrior thought little of it and pressed on in hopes of finding something.

It took some time but after some persistent searching, there was a brown flash that crossed the seemingly endless, grey-white landscape. Without hesitation, Brookclover shot forward, her paws skidding up the snow in pursuit of the hare that sprang forward. Despite her fastest attempts, the hare did not fall so easily to her claws. Instead, it just barely snagged the creature's fur, causing it to stumble. Together she and the hare fell into the snow. With a twist of her entire body that caused a soft grunt to break from her chest, the warrior was able to throw herself forward and catch it underneath her. Thorn-sharp teeth sunk into its neck. The hunger in her stomach gnawed and she had to push it way.

"Nothing to it." She muttered as she carried the hare back to Rabbitpaw. Although it was scrawny, it was something. At least a couple cats would be able to feast on it.

Rabbitpaw had decided it would be better for him to search for his own prey instead of waiting for Brookclover to return with her own catch to save time and do something productive. While the warrior was off hunting down her hare, he came across a sparrow pecking at the ground around a small pile of rocks, searching for something to eat. It was rather small, so it must have been young, and it clearly wasn't eating well itself, which in turn wouldn't feed more than two apprentices at most. However, food was food, and Rabbitpaw would take any opportunity he could to feed his Clan no matter what it was he could provide.

Crouching down, he stealthily slipped across the frozen earth towards the unsuspecting bird. Then, when he deemed himself close enough, he rushed up to it with a burst of speed and pounced on its back, pinning it down by its wings. Not wanting the creature to suffer any longer, he bent down to swiftly nip the back of its neck, killing it instantly. Picking his prey up, he turned and padded over to where Brookclover deposited her own hare, placing his sparrow down next to it.
