Two bros chillin' in the marshes (closed)

Sitting by the camp entrance, Daisyflame listened to the almost completely silent evening air, his tail curled neatly around his paws. A cool breeze ruffled the tom's fluffy white and ginger coat and he watched as it ruffled the crisp leaves above in the trees. Leaffall was going to be upon the clans faster than he'd imagined, but he had confidence in this year's season, seeing as though ShadowClan was doing pretty decent already. Letting out a yawn, he continued to sit where he was with only his thoughts to keep him company, for the time being. Hopefully some cat would join him on a patrol, seeing as though the freshkill pile needed to be restocked in preparation for the next couple of sunrises.

"Hello, Daisyflame," Scorchfang purred with a friendly smile, approaching the warrior whom he personally saw as a close friend. He noticed the ginger-and-white tom glancing at the low fresh-kill pile. "Would you like to accompany me on a small hunting patrol? It's been such a long time since we've last spent any time together."

Hearing approaching pawsteps, Daisyflame turned his head to see one of his closest friends, Scorchfang. Standing up, he gave a dip of his head to the deputy, a smile on his muzzle. "I thought you'd never ask," the ginger and white warrior purred. If he was going to patrol with anyone, Scorchfang would've always been his first choice, and he had to control the urge to knead the ground like an excited kit.

Scorchfang chuckled softly with amusement, recognizing the excitement in the younger warrior's eyes. "Alright, let's go." Instinctively, he took the lead of the patrol of two, leading Daisyflame out of camp and deeper into ShadowClan territory. He stopped by the marshes and glanced back at his friend, a playfully mischievous glint in his eyes. "Let's make this patrol interesting. The first cat to catch three pieces of prey will have to roll in those dampened mushrooms over there." He gestured with his bushy tail to a clump of beige-colored fungi of various sizes growing next to a lone pine tree.

With an excited trill, suddenly feeling moons younger, the deputy made a few bounds away from Daisyflame to begin his search. Almost instantly he picked up the scent of a mouse, and he instantly dropped down to search for the creature. He found it rustling around under some fallen pines. Quickly and quietly, he stalked towards it, then pounced. Landing squarely on its tiny body, he lowered his head down to deliver a swift, sharp nip to the back of its neck, killing it instantly. After giving thanks to StarClan for it, he buried the fresh-kill under some mud and pine needles and continued his search.

"You're on!" Daisyflame mewed playfully in reply. Finally, something more than just a regular 'ol, boring hunt.

Watching as his company went off to catch something, he opened his jaw and began to make his way away from their meeting spot. Catching a whiff of prey, he crouched down into a hunters stance and stalked forward. Catching sight of a plump frog hopping along the marshy earth just a foxlength ahead, he held his position. Stalking forward slowly, until he decided he was closes enough. Waiting just a few more moments, Daisyflame lept forward. Landing squarely on the frog, he dug his claws into its leathery skin and brought a down a swift bite before it was able to squeal.

Standing up, he buried the catch under some brush and made his way through the territory, continuing the hunt.

Scorchfang glanced up at Daisyflame from where he was sniffing through a pile of fallen pine cones, a purr rumbling in his throat. "I'm actually reminded of this one time that I went hunting by the Carrionplace as a young warrior. I was stalking a crow but I missed it, and I crashed right into this strange-smelling Twoleg goop. It turned my fur completely pink -- I looked just like a scorched lily pad!" He let out a mrrow of laughter before his attention was grabbed by scuffling nearby. He quickly pounced and landed on a shrew this time, the impact of his paw to its spine killing it. He buried it by his mouse and Daisyflame's frog with a grin. "I'm in the lead!"

Listening to the story, Daisyflame chuckled at the thought of his friend covered in sticky goo. "Sounds like something you'd do," he laughed. "Hey, no fair! I was distracted by your story!" he hissed playfully as the deputy caught another piece of prey. Flicking his ears, the sound of a frog croaking nearby caught his own attention, and stalking up on it, he pounced, landing squarely on it's back and killing it swiftly. "Ha! Looks like it's all tied up now," he mewed with the frog in his mouth as he trotted back to Scorchfang, a wide grin on his muzzle.

The deputy grinned back at his friend, whiskers twitching and eyes sparkling with laughter. "Looks like my plan worked, then." He caught sight of yet another mouse and stalked towards it, yet the closer he got the more he thought about the possibility of winning their little game and getting to watch Daisyflame roll around in the damp mushrooms. The image that sprung into his mind at the thought drew out a snort of hilarity despite himself, and he jolted in alarm when the mouse heard it. It raced away immediately, and despite Scorchfang's best efforts to catch it the rodent escaped into a nearby tiny burrow. "Aw, mouse-dung!"

Letting out a 'murrow' of laughter as his friend failed at catching his next target, Daisyflame caught sight of another frog not too far away and stalking it for a few moments, he lept forward, landing squarely on it's back and killing it swiftly. "Better catch up!" he chuckled to Scorchfang as he buried his prey.

Eyes widening when he saw his friend catch another piece of fresh-kill, Scorchfang whipped his head around to face Daisyflame. "Oh, no, is that your third?" He quickly rushed over to his friend and scooped up his freshly-caught frog right out from under the pine needles and dirt that was just buried on top of it and plopped it into his own fresh-kill pile. "Hey, thanks for helping me win, Daisyflame, I appreciate it!" he meowed with a sly grin.

"Mousedung!" Daisyflame chuckled as his friend won their little game. "Well, good job," he added, nudging Scorchfang's shoulder with his own playfully. "I guess we should head back to camp then," he purred, proud of his hunting accomplishments, even if Scorchfang had won.

"Alright, sounds good. And since you put up a good fight, I suppose I won't make you roll around in those mushrooms. I wouldn't want your musty scent stinking up the warriors' den after all." Scorchfang gave a soft mrrow of laughter and bent down to pick up his prey, and after shooting his friend a happy smile he began leading the way back to camp, feeling much happier than he had in a long while.

Chuckling at his comment, he had to agree; wreaking of mushrooms would most definitely annoy his clanmates, especially in the already stuffy warrior's den. Picking up his prey, Daisyflame trotted after Scorchfang, a smile on his muzzle. It was a true blessing to have such a friend to patrol and hunt with, and he couldn't have been any more lucky with a best friend like Scorchfang.
