Scattering Ashes

Ever since Tigerleaf had opened his eyes, Ashpaw had become bolder. He joined more patrols and became a an active cat in the clan. He had changed immensely dince the Shadefang incident, and he was very proud of the tom he had become. No more hiding in the shadows, no more running away when cats tried to speak to him. He had actually begun to socialize more with his denmates. It was amazing to him, that all he needed was a good friend to lead him back onto the right path. He owed everything to Tigerleaf, his very first friend.

Today, the white and gray tabby took it upon himself to leave camp and hunt by himself. He knew that it was risky, but he was willing to take it. After all, he was at least providing the clan with fresh kill. The prey pile was begimning to look empty; surely, he would be excused this once if he brought back am abundance of prey. Ashpaw trotted through Skyclan territory, his muzzle tipped into the air as he scented around for prey. As he neared a promising smell, another scent piqued his interest: rogue.

Intent on scaring it away, the Skyclan apprentice padded towards the smell, his head held high and tail flicking behind him. As he pushed himself through the foliage, the cat that he saw before him took his breath away.

Shadefang had come for him.

Ashpaw blinked, shaking his head slowly as he backed away, his pelt instinctively fluffing up, "N-No..no, it can't be. No, no, no.." Tears came to his eyes as memories of the traumatic experience flashed through his mind and he whimpered, his body trembling immensely. "I..I-"

Tigerleaf's words came to his mind as he stared into the blood thirsty cat's eyes. Mustering all the courage he could, he found his voice and cried out angrily, "You don't belong here. Leave Skyclan territory immediately!" He shouldn't be ashamed of defending his clan.

Shade grinned evilly as he stalked out from behind the bushes to confront Ashpaw. He remembered this troublesome tom. He and his Clanmate — Blossomheart, was that her name? — were hunting too close to the border, and he had tried to teach them a lesson, only for him to be driven off by Blossomheart. She had been there to protect Ashpaw from his wrath.

But she wasn’t here now.

”Where’s your precious Clanmate, little kit?” he taunted, stalking up to him with a low growl. All of a sudden, he pounced at the apprentice and slashed his claws across his cheek, the blow of the attack knocking him to the ground. He stood over him with a wild grin, his amber eyes blazing with insanity. ”You’re gonna die here, SkyClanner. I can promise you that.”

Shade used Front Paw Strike on Ashpaw, dealing 11 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Ashpaw screeched in pain, blood seeping from the wounds on his face. For a moment, he was frozen. Incapable of doing anything except laying there helplessly, his entire body shaking furiously. It wasn't fair; had he done something to deserve all this happening to him? It was like the former Riverclan cat had targeted him for no reason at all. Was it because he was weak? No longer had anyone to defend him?

But he wasn't those things anymore. He was a strong apprentice of Skyclan, capable of driving just about anyone off if he tried hard enough. Swallowing his growing fear, Ashpaw clambered to his paws and arched his back, hissing loudly. "Only in your dreams, you piece of crowfood!" He cried, darting underneath Shade and raking his claws across his underbelly.


Ashpaw used Belly Rake, dealing 7 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Shade gritted his teeth with a fierce growl, half in fury, half in pain. It seemed this weak little apprentice wasn’t nearly as weak as he used to be. But he was still no match for him. He jumped away, reared up on his hind paws as soon as Ashpaw stood back up, and slammed his forepaws down hard on his head, slamming him back down to the ground. ”Stay DOWN!” he roared.

Shade used Upright Lock on Ashpaw, dealing 14 damage and costing 25 stamina.

Ashpaw is unable to battle.

(OOC: At this point, Ashpaw is still alive, but he’s just unable to defend himself anymore. I want Shade to try to make Ashpaw truly fear him in his last moments of living. >:3)

Ashpaw screeched in pain as he was slammed into the ground, his entire body exploding in pain. His entire form shook vigorously as he lay there, unable to lift his head or stand; Starclan, he couldn't move without a fire of agony burning throughout his body. A small whimper left his maw as he forced his one good eye to stare into the murderous gaze of Shade, glistening over with tears. He didn't want to die..he didn't want to die. He had so much more to live. He hadn't even gotten to be a warrior yet! He wanted to grow up and find someone to love and start a family of his own. He wanted to remain Tigerleaf's friend and be there for her whenever she needed him. He wanted to run through Skyclan's forests, inhale the lush forest scent. So many things he wanted that he would never have. It wasn't fair...it wasn't fair-

His heart beat so hard in his chest it hurt. The white and gray tabby tom had been breathing so deeply it felt like something was piercing his lungs. He let out a soft cry of pain as he moved his head just enough to look Shade in the eye. "...W..Why?" He croaked, pure emotion etched in his voice, "Why me...what did I..what did I do?" Unable to keep his head up anymore, his head lolled to the side and he closed his eyes, knowing that his end was near and there was nothing that he could do about it. He was about to die and that was that. Worst of all, he was going to be alone. Not surrounded by those he loved most, dying in comfort; no, his life was going to be torn away without anyone knowing.

Ashpaw is dead.

Ashpaw opened his mouth to reply, but the only sound leaving his lips was a scream. He felt it, he felt everything as Shade dug his fangs through his sensitive flesh and tore it right from his body. Blood immediately began to seep from the wound and make a small pool around him. Tears slipped from his eyes as he stared into the eyes of his murderer, unable to tear his gaze away from him as he slowly chewed and swallowed. Starclan, he truly was mad. He had just eaten him. He noticed that Shade had started speaking, but he refused to register it. He didn't want to hear it, anyway. Anything that tom had to say was disgusting and he didn't want to listen. The gray and white tabby whimpered as he began to slip in and out of consciousness, the only thing he focused on was his deep breathing. This was it, he was going to die here. All alone, with no one by his side to reassure him as he crossed to the other side.

A small cry left his maw as a claw tore into his throat. His vision blurred as he watched Shade slink away, and finally went dark afterwards. There was no point in delaying the inevitable anymore. He was dying, soon to be dead, and he would be nothing but a faint memory. There would be nothing here left for him; just pain, even more pain than before. Ashpaw sighed gently as his chest heaved its last and he collapsed into death's cold embrace, leaving the world with one final thought,

"Sorry, Tigerleaf. I tried, I really did."
