The very warning not to approach the Owl Tree alone because of the sheer danger of it made the sandy apprentice all the more excited to do just that - slinking through the chill of the night as quiet as possible. Careful at first, he stalked the outer edges of the plot of land before silently approaching the base where large roots tangled at its base. His neck craned as he peered up at the falling leaves, hoping to make out the Owl nest that rested in its branches. Spotting a tangle of loose twigs, Vinepaw braced himself with large paws against the bark of the Owl Tree to get a better view... Only to shuffle away when a large wing flutter in its depths. There was only one... Where was the other? If he wasn't more careful or quiet, one or the other missing one would spot him on this starry night.

The sound of another voice made the tom jump out of his skin - all focus on the owl lost - a barely audible hiss escaping him. "Get lost!" The flapping of heavy wings and a hollowed 'hoot' grabbed his attention once more, making him slink back into the shadows of the oak until he was just out of sight again. "Mind your business-"

Vinepaw - having never encountered an owl in his already short life - was unaware that such a big creature could move so swift and so silent. It's talons outstretched, it lunged at Vinepaw, a claw skimming his sandy colored head. A yowl sounded as blood gushed from the newly made wound, swinging heavy paws around in an attempt to fight back. He snagged a single owl feather, a few drops of blood left on the quill.

From the stories he heard of WindClan, he thought the other cat would have left him to fight on his own. If they hadn't been in the midst of a fight, he would have said thank you. As the owl turned it's piercing gaze on the stranger, Vinepaw took the opportunity to lunge himself forward, landing on the owl as it flailed wildly beneath him. "God of Now, be with me this night!" He hissed in his fathers tongue, willing the gods to give him enough strength to take this creature down.

The owl - more angry and desperate than ever - flung Vinepaw off its back, soaring high into the night sky before swooping back down, talons outstretched and grabbing the WindClan apprentice by his head before letting him go, allowing the WindClanner to slam into the ground. The sound of the dust-colored toms bones cracking could be heard just before the owl swooped down again in an attempt to rip the smaller cat apart in a fit of rage...

But Vinepaw would not be letting that happen. Lunging forward, he raked claws against wings, making the owl cry one last time before deciding to flee - no doubt going to find its mate to help.

The owl has fled!

Now that the owl was out of sight, Vinepaw turned his eyes to the crumpled body that lay next to the weaving roots of the giant oak. Getting closer, he could tell the tom was struggling to breathe - to even hold his own head up as blood pooled around his now crooked body. The ThunderClan apprentice clicked his tongue in pity. He would not be much longer for this world; he could feel Death stalking through the forest, growing closer and closer as he watched on. He would end this toms misery so that he wouldn't suffer his last few breaths, but first he would ask his name. That was the least he could do for the cat who saved his hide. "Tell me your name so I can pass it on to the Moon, pitiful friend."

"Dustpaw... Be well in the Afterlife. I thank you." He made the apprentices death quick and painless, slicing a claw through a major vein and ending him then and there. He watched for any remaining signs of life before uttering prayers that Death make his souls departure a safe one. He tucked the owls feather into the fluffy fur of the WindClan apprentice. Dustpaw had earned it.

Vinepaw used Killing Strike on Dustpaw.

To a normal clan cat, taking Dustpaw back to his clan injured but alive would have been the best thing he could do. But for Vinepaw - a cat who held onto the feral teachings of his father - he would leave the body to return to the earth and aid in new growth. Bowing his head in thanks once more, Vinepaw left the body as it was. He needed to tend to his own wounds, perhaps skipping out on the medicine den since he would get in trouble for not only leaving on his own, but for wandering off so far at night.
