Rusty paws scampered across the camp ground, pouncing and rolling the mossball that her and her fellow kits always shared. Today it was her's. Foxkit found it was easiest to play while the rest of camp slept. Her mother always called her odd for prancing around in the sunlight, but she couldn't help it. It was almost easier to expel her energy during the day. Besides, she always loved how her pelt glowed red in the light.

As the sun began to settle behind the horizon, she could feel a rumble in the ground. Several paws began to pad around as the camp woke for their regular duties. Stifling a yawn, Foxkit settled down and curled her paws around the mossball, eyes wide and defensive as she watched the clan wake up.

Piercing amber eyes surveyed the muddy camp, sweeping, almost lazily, to observe the area. The warriors and apprentices were padding around, doing their daily duties. Oh, how Hollowkit wanted to be an apprentice already! It was dull and uneventful in the nursery, and the kits were too busy and occupied in their own noisy games. Games are a waste of time, he thought bitterly, We should all be focused on doing serious work, to be the best possible ShadowClan warrior! It was still more than four moons until the deputy held his ceremony!
Sighing and laying his head on his paws, Hollowkit's eyes rested upon a rustic-colored she-kit. A name clicked in his mind: Foxkit. Wasn't she the kit that enjoyed playing in the bright sunlight?
Hollowkit respected other's opinions, and Foxkit was no exception. He just felt a burning curiousity on why someone acted such way.

The young tom remembered his mother informing and advising him to make some new friends. She insisted that, to be the best warrior, you need to be able to know and get along with your clanmates. The voices in his mind argued over this topic for a while, until one finally won. He would talk to Foxkit, and attempt to ignite a spark of friendship.
Standing up slowly, slightly reluctant, the cedar tabby shuffled towards the other kit. This is to help me become a better warrior, he reminded himself, This is to benefit me, and this isn't a useless game.

After approaching Foxkit, Hollowkit's face was as emotionless as ever. He tried to put on a facade of friendliness, with the tips of his maw raising slightly, but he found it unnatural for him. He shifted back into his normal self, trying to look cool.
"Er, hi," he started, awkwardly, "ehm, are you okay?"
He had to force himself to not cringe at his awful attempt to start a conversation.

The kit's eyes were drawn to the bark-coloured tom that approached her. As the clan woke from their slumber, it was almost guaranteed some cat would approach her. Part of her was just hoping it would be someone older. A warrior perhaps. Not some kit who could easily ask for the mossball she cradled in her paws. Hugging it tighter, her olive eyes fell on his tabby pelt.

The bengal began to open her mouth but her words fell short as Hollowkit spoke first. Her muzzle scrunched up at his words. Was she... okay? Was he insinuating there was something wrong with her?

Her expression fell flat and her ears were pulled back. "I'm perfectly alright, thank you," she spoke curtly. Turning her head in the other direction, she pawed at the ball. What a rude tom."Are you alright?"

Hollowkit was shocked and was taken aback at Foxkit's reaction. Actually, he wished he could have been surprised, but he had expected this to go the wrong direction. This was exactly why he preferred to stay alone, he just didn't have the right social skills to interact with others.
Pulling his ears back so they were flattened against his untidy pelt, Hollowkit began to say a response.
"I.. didn't mean to say it like that.. it's not that I think there's something wrong with you, honestly! My intention wasn't to insult you.. it was to start a friendly conversation," he mumbled, disappointed with himself. He added more, talking briefly and with a low tone,"You probably think I'm not very polite now, don't you? Sorry.."

Spinning back around with his tail swishing, all energy suddenly drained from him, Hollowkit began to make his way back towards the boring, shady shelter of the nursery.

A wide, yet startlingly gentle, forepaw halted Hollowkit's hasty escape. Iridescent olive eyes blinked down at the young tom, softened by the faint traces of the previous drowsiness that had overwhelmed them mere moments ago. Wolfheart had only awoken a few heartbeats ago, but had been drawn away from the tempting confines of his nest at the sound of Foxkit's voice. His daughter appeared to be quite similar to her namesake in the sense that she spoke with the same, perhaps unintentional, callousness. Prodding Hollowkit back out in the direction of Foxkit, the rosetted tom lifted his gaze to where his daughter sat clutching a wad of moss.

"Foxkit," Wolfheart mewed softly, "It's much too early for you to be driving off your denmates." Although he was unsure of whether or not he was capable of expressing any sort of irritation with his youngest kit, he was never afraid of unleashing some well-intended teasing- especially during moments such as this.

Ah. She screwed up.

Her striped tail waved back and forth tentatively, head turning back to watch the tom-kit walk away. He wasn't calling her odd or saying there was something wrong with her. He was just... awkward, like her. The kit turned the ball around in her paws, tiny kitten claws gripping at the moss. Her back legs pushed up against the dirt, pushing her body up just as another voice entered the clearing.

She knew that voice. The slight inclination of teasing that always filled his voice when the little, rusted bengal was doing something she shouldn't quite be doing. With her head tucking into her shoulders she sat on her hind legs and gave Wolfheart a cheeky smile. "I-I was just about to apologize," she mewed, her murky green eyes mirroring his. Grabbing the toy in her mouth, she padded up to her father and brushed up against his tall leg before dropping the lichen ball and rolling it towards Hollowkit.

"I didn't understand, I'm sorry... Would you like to play moss ball with me?" her voice was small as she sat under the warrior's gaze. "You too, daddy," Foxkit began with a more cheerful tone as she grew past the unintentional insult, "Wanna join?"

The discouraged tom-kit shambled onwards, his droopy, fiery eyes directed onto his twitching paws. Slight irritation pricked at him - why did it have to be so tricky to talk? Surely, it couldn't be so difficult to accomplish such a simple task? All he had to do was march up to someone and start a conversation, and that was it.

Hollowkit huffed, cross with himself. The paw that suddenly blocked his path startled him. In his deep thoughts, he hadn't noticed the cat that had approached. The kit raised his head to look up at the warrior, his sharp amber eyes meeting his gaze. Hollowkit was unfamiliar with his name, and he quickly took this chance to scan his mind for any memories of observing this warrior. He briefly recalled one moment. Wolf..heart? he thought, uncertainly. Shaking himself to face Wolfheart again, Hollowkit was a bit alarmed when he prodded him gently back to the direction of Foxkit. He hesitated before taking a few measly steps towards her. The dark tom gave her a quick, apologetic blink, indicating that he really was sincerely sorry for before.

He listened silently as Foxkit and Wolfheart talked with each other. When the she-kit offered the mossball to Hollowkit, he was shocked, thinking that she hadn't forgiven him yet. He was quite glad though that the problem had been resolved, and although he often despised games, it would be rude to decline, and this was an opportunity to make a friend, or at least an aquaintance. Hollowkit nodded towards her, and smiled, this one not forced, unlike the previous time. When Foxkit extended the invitation to the warrior, the young tom was surprised. It had been unknown to him that Wolfheart was her father.
