Caring for the Elders (CLOSED)

Fernwing smiled happily with a skip in her step as she padded across camp towards the elders’ den. She hadn’t gotten to spend time with her favorite elder and dear friend Cedarfur ever since she was an apprentice, as the life of a warrior and as a mentor were taking up more and more of her time. But since she needed to teach Lilypaw how to properly care for the elders, she figured now would be the perfect opportunity to pay her old friend a visit.

“Cedarfur!” the young warrior called out before padding up to the significantly older cat. She purred and gave him an affectionate greeting lick on his forehead before swishing her tail over to Lilypaw. ”Cedarfur, I want to introduce you to my apprentice Lilypaw! Lilypaw, this is Cedarfur, one of the elders of WindClan!”

Lilypaw had been curious about what she and her mentor would do this day and when she heard that she was going to take care for the elders she was actually very exited for it! When she padded towards the elder den after Fernwing she thought back at al the suns she spent there as a kit she loved the story's from the elders and she hoped she could hear a new one today.

When she padded into the Elder den Fernwing introduced her to Cedarfur. After that Lilypaw waited for a second to hear if her mentor would say more, because most of the time she did but today was a special day and Fernwing managed to say only one sentence. Guess I should say something now " hi, I am lilypaw could you maybe tel us a story while I'l help you?" ooooh yes very very smooth lilypaw she already knew your name Fernwing just told her! You are not a kit anymore why would you ask for a story? Lilypaw was a little startled, normally she never stumbled over her words! Guess she was a little to exited for the lesson in taking care for the elders.

Having been fast asleep in the dimly lit den, the sudden voice of Fernwing and some other cat brought the elder's ears to perk up. Lifting his head and blinking his eyes in attempt to adjust to whoever he was looking at, Cedarfur purred as the she-cat gave him a gentle lick on the forehead.

Listening as the warrior spoke, he turned to look at the cat named Lilypaw. Giving a dip of his head to the apprentice, a smile grew on his grey muzzle. "Nice to meet you," he purred and listened as the young cat asked a question about story telling. "Well, how about you listen to Fernwing on what to do and I'll tell you a story once you get started," the elder mewed, his smile not wavering.

Fernwing arched her eyes happily, glad to see her apprentice was eager to get to know such an important cat in the Clan. "Well, to start off, why don't you search for any fleas and ticks in Cedarfur's fur? If you find any fleas, make sure to crack them between your teeth, but don't try to pluck out any ticks if you come across them. Featherlight has mouse bile we can use to remove them. It smells yucky and tastes even worse, so make sure not to lick your paws after you've finished using it. Meanwhile, I'll start cleaning out his nest." She brushed her side against Cedarfur's affectionately as she passed, slipping into the elders' den to begin her task.

Lilypaw nodded to her mentor and began to look for fleas and ticks, she quickly found a flea in the neck of the elder and cracked it between her teeth, and began to look for more while waiting for Cedarfur to begin with his story or to say where he thought might be ticks. Let al the other apprentices train on the morse I prefer spending time to learn about the history from my clan! she thought while cracking another flea.

Purring as the two of them got to work, Cedarfur laid still for Lilypaw and thought of a story to tell. The elder had been through so much in his lifetime, but with age came forgetfulness, something he seemed to be suffering from a lot lately.

"Have you heard of the Great Clans?" he started, begging to remember the rest of the story. "Long ago before us, there were three clans; LionClan, LeopardClan, and TigerClan. The three clans were made up of the most fierce cats you'd ever seen. LionClan had strong, courageous members that had long, flowing manes like rays of the sun. LeopardClan was made of swift cats that possessed great speed and hunting talent. They were said to be huge and spotted," the elder mewed, hoping his story was interesting enough. "TigerClan was the first clan to live in a forest. They were said to be big cats with flame-colored pelts that had jet-black stripes, and the darkness of the night in their souls," he added in a softer tone in hopes of setting a more mysterious mood, though his tail flicked back and forth playfully.

Fernwing always enjoyed listening to her great grandfather’s stories while she worked. They were always filled with epic adventures, fantastic lore, and excellent morals. She chirped with amusement. ”I bet we were descended from LeopardClan, because we’re so fast! And TigerClan and LionClan are ShadowClan and ThunderClan, right? I wonder what the other twin Clans’ descendants are. Maybe BirdClan and FishClan!” She let out a loud mrrow of laughter.

Lilypaw snapped out of her concentration and into a laughter when she heard Fernwing saying "Maybe BirdClan and FishClan!". She tried to find herself again but the idea from being a ancestor from leopard clan " tel more please!" she sad while searching further for flea's.

Sitting still so that the two of them could clean his pelt, the tom let out a low purr at the apprentice's laughter. It always made him happy seeing his clanmates in a good mood and he was glad that he was able to be a factor of their happiness. Thinking about another possible story to tell for a few moments, the elder decided on one.

"Not too long ago, the reign of The Dark Forest fell upon the clans," he started softly, setting the mood. "Shadow-like cats made their way into the clans, into cat's heads, and converted them to evil. Cats began to betray their clans, turn against their leaders... it was pure chaos," he mewed, remembering how much of a struggle those times were.

"Wow, that sounds super scary... But I doubt any WindClan cats went to the dark forest, right? Because WindClan is the best Clan there is! Every cat is so loyal and strong and nice!" Fernwing meowed, rolling the dirty moss up in a ball and pushing it out of the den before beginning to fill in the void spaces of the nest with fresh moss.

Lilypaw stood with her claws in the ground she noticed, Darkforest cats those must be really scary she was even more scared when she saw the look Cederfur's face it had a look of pain, that time must have given him unpleasant memory's butt she still wanted to know more about the dark forest. " what happend? were they defeated? they were defeated right? they can never come back to harm any other cat right?" Lilypaw hoped that the answer she would get was the answer she was hoping for, that the Darkforest cat's were defeated and that they could never return butt everything would rise up eventually and when would it be the Darkforest's time to rise up again?

Nodding at Fernwing's comment and putting a smile on his muzzle, Cedarfur turned his head back in the direction of Lilypaw. "Yes, we did defeat them, but even so, no cat knows if they'll ever come back. In my honest opinion, I do believe that they'll return someday, most likely seeking revenge," the elder pointed out, quickly realizing that what he said might have ended up scaring the apprentice even more. "But even so, their return wouldn't be in your lifetime, little one," he purred with a cheery smile sitting on his muzzle as he silently prayed that what he said was the truth.

"I'm sure of it!" Fernwing chimed in. "They won't come around after Swiftstep becomes leader, or when his deputy becomes leader, or even when that deputy becomes leader! But even so, I'll be sure to train you well enough so that you could fight off any Dark Forest warrior, hypothetically!"

Lilypaw tried really hard to not show the fear that clammed to her hart because of when Cederfurr gave her her answer butt it dwelled when Fernwing began to speak, for some odd reason Lilypaw always beliefs Fernwing when she said something even if she doesn't. " I guess you are right about that Ferwing at least I hope so". She tried to search for any more thicks or flee's but could not find any " Cerderfurr I think I'm done" she said slightly disappointed she looked at Fernwing in the hope that she might have more tasks for her.

Nodding at Fernwing's comment, Cedarfur prayed with all his might that what the she-cat said was true. Shaking away the negative thoughts, the elder turned his head around towards Lilypaw and a purr emitted from his throat. "I feel better already! You and your mentor really know how to spoil a cat," he chuckled to the apprentice, a smile on his now grey muzzle.
