With something plump in his mouth the tom marched into camp alongside his patrol mates, his head held high. He'd gone on a few patrols before with no luck in catching anything, but this time was different! The round creature in his mouth had squeaked tons at him, and Cloudy had told him it was a mouse! How exciting! Fennelbreeze had told him they were to feed the elders first, then the queens, right? Bah! There was only one first catch, how could they deny him his victory meal?

As the rest of the patrol headed to deposit their catches in the fresh-kill pile Oakpaw trotted in a different direction. He needed to be quick, stealthy; and stars was he! The young apprentice retreated into one of the many holes dotting the edges of Windclan's camp, settling himself and his victory meal down. Bending down to take a bite from the plump morsel, Oakpaw paused. Had that blur always been in front of him, or was it new?
