Two Vengeful Souls (CLOSED)

So Sweetheart was killed by foxes? The silvery warrior couldn't believe she had such an easy way to die... it was simply suspicious considering that she and Ivystar knew what she really did against her clan. The silvery warrior glanced back at her former apprentice, feeling bad for him. A half clan warrior who never asked to born with such a blood... if he knew the truth, who knows how would he react? Anger? Hate? It wasn't like he didn't hate his mother before.

Anyway, the scarred warrior was actually a bit pleased that she had the chance to just go on a patrol with him. He had proven to be one of her best apprentices despite his cruel behaviour when he was a kit. Silverfang stopped in the middle of the Sunningrocks, the place her clan earned thanks to their efforts and blood. "So tell me, Shadefang, how's the warrior life treating you? Do you still have problems with hunting?" She asked, not trying to be mean but instead acting as the concerned and strict teacher she was. The young tom might not be part of her kin but she had learned to see him as part of her family.

Everything that Shadefang had witnessed as an apprentice, everything Ivystar had said to Sweet and everything Sweet pleaded to her former leader, kept replaying in his head mercilessly. He wished he had never spied on them. He wished he could remain as ignorant as he was before, when everything was as normal as they could be in his life. But no, he just had to spy and be one of the only cats to learn that Reedclaw wasn't his birth father; that his true father was the ShadowClan deputy; that Sweet tried to defend that disgusting ShadowClan filth over her own son! And what does Ivystar do with that fox-heart? She exiles her! That fox deserves the most traumatizing death possible, a slow and painful and agonizing demise that will ultimately send her spiraling down into the Dark Forest where all disgusting code-breakers belong.

Shadefang was not fairing well today. It was just another one of those days where he found nearly everyone and everything to get on his last nerve. Just today he ended up snapping at his little brother -- no, his half-brother -- Birchpaw for something so little as taking the last frog from the fresh-kill pile earlier that morning, and he nearly nicked Spotfur's ear with his claws when the speckled warrior said something he didn't agree with. And now he was sent patrolling with Silverfang. Which was alright within itself, he had really grown on his former mentor and learned that she was more than just an angry and aggressive she-cat. But he would still rather stay curled up in his nest forever, wishing his foul excuse for a mother had never been born so that he in turn would never have been born. She had hurt too many cats with her stupid actions.

At Silverfang's sudden question, Shadefang looked up sharply at her. It took him a few heartbeats to register what she had asked, then he lamely shrugged and glared back down at the ground. "It's... as alright as it can be, I guess. I dunno. Peatpaw's been sleeping in more and more lately, even though I told him he had to be up before sunrise to begin training, so that's kinda frustrating. And... the other day, I missed a frog while hunting on the marshy part of the territory and fell into the lake, and then Spotfur had the gall to mock me over it." He gave a frustrated lash of his tail, but as much as he wanted to vent about that insufferable speckled tom, he knew Silverfang was his mother and therefore she probably wouldn't appreciate hearing him say such nasty things about him, so he let that part go. "And... I'm just... I'm so mad! I'm mad at Ivystar!"

"Be more strict with your apprentice if you plan to get something from him. Don't hurt him but try to be harsher. Being the son of the deputy doesn't give the privilege of skipping his lessons because he wants to nap." She spatted with a lash of her messy tail. She hated lazy apprentice and she could understand what Shadefang was going through. When he mentioned her son mocked him, Silverfang hissed softly and turned her head away. "You must not fail a catch like that but my son shouldn't have a laugh at you. I'm going to have a few words with him." Silverfang mewed as she walked to the river and spotted a silvery fish. With a swift hit, the experienced warrior tossed the creature to the riverbank and she killed it with one strong bite.

However, she didn't have the chance to enjoy her successful catch. The warrior dropped her fresh-kill and narrowed her eyes when the young tom said he was angry at Ivystar, their leader. "Angry at Ivystar? Why would you be angry with her?" She mewed with a cautious and suspicious tone, not quite understanding the feelings of her former apprentice.

Shadefang nodded at Silverfang's advice and wholeheartedly agreed with her. After all, Silverfang's strict teachings turned him into a pretty decent warrior, so he would have to really shape both himself as a mentor and Peatpaw as the son of RiverClan's deputy up to turn him into a formidable warrior as well. He was also satisfied to know Silverfang would have a talk with Spotfur, and knowing her it would probably be a really strict one, which made him feel a little better.

Deciding to practice his own fishing as he was still part RiverClan, he crouched down next to Silverfang and waited as patiently as he could for a dark shadow in the water to venture close enough to him. At her next question, though, he huffed and stood back up. He couldn't sit still with this much anger within him, he had to walk it out at least. And that's what he did, stalking rapidly back and forth along the riverbank. "Don't get me wrong, Silverfang, I highly respect Ivystar as a leader and as a cat. But I know something that most cats don't. I know I shouldn't have done it, but as an apprentice I... I followed her when she pulled Sweet and Reedclaw aside. I... I found out something pretty... life-changing. I'm... I'm not Reedclaw's son. Stars, I'm not your grandson! I don't have any relation to you! The only relation I have is with ShadowClan!" He yowled the name of the other Clan whose blood also ran through his veins, and he angrily lashed at a patch of grass with his claws, ripping it to shreds with a single swipe.

He turned to Silverfang, his amber eyes glowing with fury, but underneath the fire of rage a dimmer of heartbroken sorrow could just be detected. "I learned why I have so much trouble hunting anywhere but on marshy land, why I love the darkness and musty air, why I enjoy the taste of frog and toad, why I feel... so strangely at home within ShadowClan's marshes as well as RiverClan's streams. Reedclaw isn't my father. A cat named Scorchfang is, the ShadowClan deputy! He's my real father, and Sweet never told me! She never even told Reedclaw, she let even him, the cat who raised me and Birchpaw, his only biological son, believe that I was his when I'm not!" He snarled and lowered his head, baring his teeth, trying to hide the beginning of furious, saddened tears from his former mentor, the cat whom he had always thought was his aunt. "I'm truly alone here in RiverClan. I have no biological father, no family by blood, and the only cat whose blood runs through my veins was exiled! She wasn't killed by foxes, she was exiled to live the rest of her life as a free-roaming rogue! She even got to keep half her Clan-given name! How could Ivystar allow someone as cruel and heartless and selfish as that fox live? She has hurt so many cats with her secrets and lies, and Ivystar just lets her go and it's not fair to me!"

Silverfang's whiskers twitched and she even stepped back a bit when her former apprentice revealed to her that he already knew the truth. At the end... the truth of her crimes couldn't remain hidden for too long... The she-cat clenched her fangs as he let out a small hiss. In an impulse, the messy haired warrior leapt to the other tom and put him down on his back as she stood up over of his body. She hissed but she had no intentions of attack him but to make him come to his senses. "Don't you dare, Shadefang! How can you say you have nothing to do with me?! I'm the one who picked up your butt and make you the great warrior you are now! I'm the one who raised you! Am I really nothing to you, then?!" She snarled angrily with the fur of her tail bristling furiously.

Silverfang stepped back, freeing the young warrior and she looked at him with strict eyes. "We might share no blood but you're still my former apprentice and for me, you became part of my family. So don't be a mouse-brained kit and stop crying about being alone because you're not. Stay proud and strong, like a true Riverclan warrior because that's what you are and nothing more. Where were you born? Where did you grow? Whose cats trained you to hunt, fight and swim? You have nothing to do with those marsh dwellers. You've have earned your place here a long time ago, not like the filthy cat you have the disgrace to share blood with..." The warrior lashed her tail violently at the thought of the exiled warrior she thought she was dead. She shook her head and dug her claws into the earth, viciously. "Tch! I can't believe she's still outside there after all the crimes she committed against her birth-clan... I guess a fox-hearted she-cat like her couldn't die so easily after how she managed to escape from Ivystar's wrath for so long."

The warrior started to walk from one side to another like a trapped lion, being consumed by her rage and anger. She couldn't be angry at her leader. She knew that Ivystar tried her best to do the best for her clan. However, she couldn't stay calm knowing now that Sweet was alive, not paying for all the pain she caused on her sons, Reedclaw and Spotfur, and on Shadefang, her bastard son who had no fault for her own mistakes. Silverfang tossed a rock to the water, angered. "Fox dung! She should be rotting in the Dark Forest after what she did to you and for breaking the Warrior Code by taking a mate of another clan! She always wanted us to surrounded and give everything we have to other clans. How could she even called herself a Riverclan warrior?! She did not care for her clan... and she surely doesn't care now for it or her family."


OOC: Actually, Silverfang was actually like a grandmother to Shadefang XD. Silver's son is Reedclaw :P

Shadefang’s eyes widened as he was pinned by the vastly stronger and larger warrior. He should feel angry that she was able to subdue him like this, or even the slightest bit intimidated by her fury. But instead — strangely enough — he felt... what was the word?... happy. Especially considering everything that was going on, he couldn’t help but feel immense gratitude for Silverfang. He was not her grandson by blood, but she still regarded him as one anyway. She still loved him as if he were Reedclaw’s son. He had to blink a few times to douse the sharp pangs behind his eyes. Now was not the time to get emotional. Now was the time for justice.

He climbed up to his paws and shook himself out, waiting for the she-cat to finish her venting before speaking up. ”That sly beast of a cat has been exiled from the one place she called home, and everyone believes her to be dead. ...So why don’t we put some truth in Ivystar’s words? I mean, no one would miss her, right?”

(OOC: Oh, yeah. Derp. I’ll fix that, sorry! XD)

The Riverclan she-cat dug her claws on soft moss when her former apprentice spoke. She perked her ears and turned her head slowly to the young tom, narrowing her odd eyes. Silverfang approached him with an expressionless face and stopped just a few paw lengths in front of him. "What are you trying to suggest, Shadefang?" She mewed in a neutral tone. The experienced warrior wasn't dumb. She knew what the tom was trying to say but she had to make sure. Killing a cat wasn't something that could be decided so easily... However, the Warrior Code said it was fine to kill a cat that was outside of the clan's law: An honourable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his battles unless they are outside the warrior code. And Sweet broke the rules moons ago by taking a mate from another clan and putting other clans over her own. That rogue lost her title as a warrior and she deserved to live in the Dark Forest. Would it be so bad to just speed up the process?

"Think about it," Shadefang meowed in response, "if we kill Sweet, she won't be accidentally found by another RiverClan warrior, and Ivystar won't be accused of lying. She isn't a Clan cat anymore, so the rule about not having to kill a cat doesn't stand for her. Sure, it still stands for us, but... in a way... we'd be doing it to protect her. If anyone knows that cat, it's me. She could barely hunt or fight well as it was, and during her sentence in camp during leaf-bare before I was born she must have completely forgotten how to do either to the point where she would be able to protect herself. Wouldn't it be better for her to meet a swift end than leave her to slowly starve to death?"

Of course, Shadefang didn't really care how Sweet died. If he could have it his way, he would personally maim her to the point where she couldn't move so that she would slowly starve and dehydrate. And that was him being nice. But he didn't want there to be a chance of Sweet returning, and he had to convince Silverfang to join him in this mission somehow. Unlike him, her heart wasn't nearly as filled with icy hatred, and he knew she would rather end someone's suffering than let them live on in constant agony.

The warrior let out a sarcastic laugh and she looked at the young tom with a strange smile. "Come on, Shadefang. I'm sure you don't truly care for her so cut-off those words. You, from all the cats, are the one who has more reasons to end with her life... and I'm with you." She stated, her eyes turning slightly darker as she stood up proudly, determined to accomplish what she had just said. Sweet didn't deserve to live after what she did and maybe death was the only redemption she could get from her and from Shadefang.

Silverfang lashed her tail as she turned her body to look at the river with thoughtful eyes. "We don't know where she is... but we can track her every time we have the chance during border and hunting patrols, together. Once we found her... her death must be quick and with no traces. Most of our clanmates won't understand our actions but I'm sure it's the right thing to do."

The younger tom couldn't hold back a gruff chuckle. "You know me better than I though, I suppose." His tail twitched as he stood beside her, staring out beyond the river -- beyond Fourtrees -- towards ShadowClan territory. "I have a pretty good idea where she would try to go first. She has lost everything in RiverClan, and she can't live without a Clan, so it's logical she would try to find refuge in ShadowClan with my father. I say we find a way to isolate him so we can speak with him about Sweet's whereabouts; it's obvious they won't accept her into the Clan, otherwise they'd find RiverClan shifting from ally to enemy with them."

The she-cat sighed and closed her eyes, meditating the idea. "I can't do that. I promised him to never talk of this again with him so he wouldn't be in shame in front of his clan. But... you can speak to him. After all, he's your father and he owes you something for never truly being with you."

Silverfang opened her eyes and gazed her former apprentice with gleaming eyes. "I won't force you to speak to him if you don't want to but, as you said, he's our best way to find her. Use the guilt he never felt for his mistakes and make him talk. I'll be with you when this talk happens. The next Gathering is soon to happen, Shadefang. Take the chance and talk to him. I'm sure you can convince him to meet him in the Fourtrees the next night to "make amends"." A new feeling started to feel Silverfang's chest. Finally, after so long, Sweet was going to get what she deserved and she was going to be part of that. The experienced wasn't a murderer but she was determined to kill in order to bring balance to the forest.

"No, I'll do it. I'll do anything to make sure Sweet gets her retribution for her sins. That's a good idea, though, the Gathering I mean." Shadefang fell silent, then looked up at his former mentor. "You said you talked to him once before. Did... Did he know I'm his son? Does he even know now? I... I almost feel... bad for him, if he doesn't know. That'd just mean he fell victim to all of Sweet's treacherous lies as well. Even if they broke the warrior code, the least she could've done was told him about me."

The warrior looked at him with an expression she didn't usually use: a compassionate one. Silverfang shook her head slowly as she remembered his words when she met him at the Fourtrees.

But I doubt there were any lasting effects of our past relationship.

The she-cat sighed and then fixed her blue and green eye on the brown-furred apprentice. "When I saw him, I told him that I would say all the truth to you. I'm sorry for not telling you before but now I won't hide anything. He had no idea of your existence. He and that pathetic excuse of a warrior ended their relationship before he could know she was pregnant with you. I'm not trying to defend her, Shadefang, believe I'm not. I hate her since moons. But I think Ivystar's punishment for her acts against Riverclan never let her have a chance to tell him about you. I don't feel bad for either of them, unlike you, but I must admit that I wouldn't like to be in Scorchfang's place right now. His only mistake was to fall in love with that fox-hearted she-cat and for being too naive. Don't make the same mistakes, Shadefang. I know you're not my apprentice anymore, but if I have to teach you something is that you don't follow the path of your parents. Don't ever dare to betray your clan like they did for a dumb romance like that. It's not worthy."

Shadefang sighed heavily. Now he really couldn't help but feel bad for the father he had never known. If he knew his mother, she was probably the one who had convinced him to have the relationship with her in the first place. But to never have told Scorchfang that he was Shadefang's true father... He didn't think Sweet could top what she had done as being the most messed up decision she's ever made, but here they were.

When Silverfang spoke about averting the path Sweet had taken, his eyes widened with alarm. "I would never commit such a sin! Honestly, I don't think I'll ever take a mate after all of this. ...Thank you for telling me, though. I... I appreciate it. And I appreciate you." And he truly meant that. No other cat felt more like a mother to him, especially not his own mother, than Silverfang, even if she was his adopted grandmother. He was grateful to have her in his life.
