A Flick of the Tail (Closed)

It was time. The few tail-signals Curlyfeather had learned were not enough for her to effectively communicate. Sure, she could say stuff like 'hello', 'follow me", and 'this hurts', but that was basically all she knew. Quite a few cats wanted to help her apparently, and though she only knew of about three, there were probably more of them. Most of the time, being helped was something she despised. And still, if someone helped her without her asking she would bite their head off. Figuratively, of course. But now this was so that she could help them almost as much as they were helping her, and she was asking for it. So this was different. The deaf gray tabby marched out into camp, waiting by the medicine den for Nettlesting. The medicine cat was supposed to help lead this thing. Just hopefully Cedarstorm would come too. The two of them plus Scorching were the only cats that she knew of that had agreed to do this with her, but StarClan knew how many other cats would be there. She kinda hoped it would just be them.
"I'm ready," she called. It was weird not knowing if her voice seemed loud or quiet to whoever was listening. Did she sound like shh was yelling all the time, or was she constantly whispering? She hoped he voice was regular volume, but she had no way of knowing. That was one of the many pains of being deaf. She waited for the medicine cat and the two warriors to arrive, and made up her mind to start before anyone else got there. If someone had said something and she hadn't realized it, she might grudgingly make an exception.

Today was the day. Finally, her sister was going to get help and start a new communication system that would help her to overcome her disability. Cedarstorm woke up early so she wouldn’t be late. The brown tabby left her den and trotted toward Curlyfeather, who was already waiting at the entrance of the medicine cat den. She nuzzled her gently in the neck and flicked her tail doing the sign of ”hello”. ”Hi, Curlyfeather. I’m happy to see you here.” She purred with a smile, trying to show what she said with that expression. It was hard to see her this way and the she-cat blamed herself for not being there when she needed her most. But now... she was going to help her and... take revenge in Thunderclan until she finds the cat who did this.

Scorchfang spotted Curlyfeather with her sister Cedarstorm, and he padded over to the two she-cats as he waved his tail in hello to the deaf one. "Hello, Curlyfeather," he meowed to her, knowing she would at least be able to read his lips. Turning his attention to Cedarstorm, he nodded a greeting to her. He knew she didn't like him very much at all because of his awful behavior as an apprentice, and he couldn't blame nor disagree with her.

(OOC: I'm assuming this takes place at the time before Cedarstorm and Scorchfang are on good terms.)

Willowheart followed Scorchfang meekly, her large amber eyes trained on Curlyfeather's head, where her ears used to be. She knew it was impolite, but she looked so strange. She swallowed nervously, trying to tear her gaze away from the grey warrior. Unlike Scorchfang she didn't bother to speak, so instead, she made a friendly expression and twitched her white-tipped tail as a greeting. 'Hello!' Although her tail-signing wasn't perfect, she had managed to pick up on a few things and hoped Curlyfeather would be able to get the message.

Nettlesting exited the den, and brushed against Curlyfeather to announce his present to her. He sat next to her and addressed the others arround them. "Today, we're here to help create a language for Curlyfeather to read with our tails. This might be hard a first, because we will have to mouth the words for her until she understands the tail signals. What should hello be?" he looked around to the other cats.

(OOC: @Drippy: I'm not intending to be rude or make fun, but remember his name is Scorchfang, not Scorchfrost. Unless that's just what Willowheart calls him. <3)

"You're more than free to deny this suggestion, but what I do is wave my tail once in the air." To demonstrate, Scorchfang rose up his tail straight in the air and swished it once, his tail behaving much like a long blade of grass in rippling water.

Curlyfeather smiled as Cedarstorm approached her, always more comfortable with her sister around. They had been inseparable since they were kits, and if it hadn't been for the red tabby, she probably wouldn't have had enough motivation to get past her sickness. The moon when she had her fever had been the worst days of her life, and she was glad she had gotten through it. She nodded curtly at Scorchfang, still having mixed emotions about him. He had always been a rude codebreaker who for some reason hated she-cats, and she had ignored him after she became a warrior. But ever since she had gone deaf, he had seemed gentle and caring, completely different from when she could hear him. But as much as she doubted the tom, her shock at seeing Willowheart was obvious. This situation was similar, except for her she had no reason to have second thoughts. Sure, she had only ever tried to help as an apprentice, but she was like a bossy and not regretful version of Crowfur. And the way she stared at where her ears should be didn't make her feel good at all. Her blue eyes narrowed but she stayed silent, gaze fixed on the black and white she-cat until Nettlesting brushed against her. She was thankful at the medicine cat's arrival, knowing they could actually get to work now. She owed her life to him, knowing that without attention from a medicine cat she would have died from her infections. But she did wish he would speak slower, so she had a chance to try to read his lips.
