Silent (open after Kari posts!)

Rowantalon padded into the nursery, a small, distracted frown on his face. He, like many others, had heard of the unfortunate events that had taken place last night- such tragedies rarely took place in Shadowclan, and Rowantalon wasn't going to let another litter suffer through the same lonely kithood he had. The spotted tom stopped short at the sight of the small white she-cat curled up in a corner of the nursery. "Oh dear..." He mewed softly, padding closer and scooping the small kit into his jaws. "Where's the rest of your family, little one?" He had expected a smaller litter, but one? It was a bad omen; a sign of sickness. Rowantalon had seen many litters of one die before apprenticehood, but there was something about this young kit that gave him hope that she wouldn't be like the other single litters.

He gently placed the she-kit in another nest, one he usually occupied. It was closer to the entrance and lined with soft feathers that Rowantalon had carefully woven into the woven bed. "Now then. What's your name?" He talked as he inspected her for injury, nosing over her white fur. "I don't suppose you have one yet... hm. Luckykit? Whitekit? ...You're a quiet thing- how about Silentkit?"
Rowantalon felt a pang as he spoke the last name. His old friend, and former mentor, Silentstorm, would never walk the Forest Territories again. Instead, he watched from Starclan. It seemed fitting that his name would be given to a cat who's pelt shone like the stars. "Yes, Silentkit is fitting." He purred, nudging her gently as he finished his check. "You're a strong one, no doubt. You'll make a fine addition to Shadowclan." The spotted tom turned away from her for a moment and stuck his head out of the Nursery, his ears twitching. "Crowfur, Scorchfang, Wildkit!" He called, naming a few of his sons. The rest were most likely off exploring the territories, but he could always rely on his eldest, middle and youngest sons to be ready. "Come see your younger sister."
He felt another jolt as he spoke, remembering Lilacfall. His only daughter to see the warrior's den. His little flower. She had always been meek and friendly, but her life had been claimed on the Thunderpath like so many others.
The thought of his daughter only made him more determined that Silentkit and Wildkit both would defy the bad omens of their birth, and live to be strong warriors.

Silentkit shuffled for a moment inside the woven nest. She appeared to be a bit smaller than the average kit, but not dangerously so. She seemed to have trouble lifting her head and moving her limbs properly, as any day old kit would.

She had yet to gain the gift of sight yet but she tasted the air to the best of her ability, seemingly looking for her mother. The pale kit made no sound but eventually settled somewhat in the nest, seemingly comforted by the scent of Rowantalon that clung to the feathers and moss. Her tiny belly rumbled angrily, demanding her mother's milk. However she did not cry out once and chose to stay silent.

Scorchfang approached the nursery curiously. He had been too distraught the past few days over his dear apprentice's death to take too much notice to what was going on within camp. He had a sister? She must be adopted. ...Oh, that's right. Now he remembered hearing from some cats that the kit's parents both had tragically perished, leaving her without a mother or father. Thank goodness Rowantalon decided to adopt her. Even though he no longer had nearly as many brothers and sisters as he did before, he was glad to find that the number of siblings was beginning to grow again.

He looked down at the little white kit and purred. She was so very beautiful, and small as well. He would protect her with his life, just as he knew her new brothers would as well. "Hello, I'm Scorchfang. It's nice to meet you, little sister." He purred and gently nuzzled her cheek affectionately. Like Rowantalon, he, too, was reminded of Lilacfall, the older sister he never got the chance to know. He swore that he would be a much better brother to Silentkit, the brother she deserved.

Silentkit stirred as her new brother nudged her, lifting her head again to taste the air. She reached out a tiny pink paw and touched it to his nose. She then lost her balance and rolled over onto her back, flailing at the air to try and squirm back onto her belly. Her coordination could certainly use some work. Eventually, she gave up and laid there, sprawled on her back in an awkward position, mewing a very soft "Err... help?"
