Heatherpetal picked out the whistling and singing of a thrush, and she spotted the little bird hopping around in the snow in search of food. She would make up for her loss of the rabbit for the bird. She crouched down and began to stalk it, and once she was close enough she pounced and caught it, nipping its neck to end its life.

A rabbit? Wisteriapaw's ears perked with interest as she spotted the creature about a fox-length away from her. She had never seen a rabbit before, but she wanted to catch it so that she could bring it back to the Clan. While she knew that rabbits and hares were practically WindClan's signature prey, she couldn't help but wonder how it tasted. Did ThunderClan rabbits taste different? No, that was silly. Crouching down and sliding forwards, the ginger-and-white apprentice leaped towards the brown rabbit that seemed to be staring in other direction with wide eyes and perked, tall ears. Oh, goodness, that creature was quick. The rabbit seemed to sense Wisteriapaw's presence, and before the she-cat could catch it, the thing sprinted away through the white snow. The she-cat couldn't help but feel a small stab of disappointment. She watched the rabbit run off, and her soft gaze seemed to soften even more. She almost felt a bit glad that she had missed her prey.
"R-run away, l-little r-rabbit," She whispered, sadly, "Live -your l-life to the f-fullest, because some c-cat m-may end i-it for you o-one d-day..."

Robinpaw walked along a little further, sniffing the air intently for any trace for prey, when she saw a tree with a rather low-hanging branch. She would be able to jump that. A small brown squirrel was perched on the branch, facing the other way. She crouched down low, slowly moving closer, keeping her claws unsheathed as her bushy tail swished just above the snow. The muscles in her hind legs rippled as she pushed sharply upwards, her claws smashing the squirrel off of the branch. She just about caught it in her jaws before they both fell into the snow. The pitiful creature was still alive, wriggling to get out of her grasp, but the apprentice killed it as swiftly as she could, trying to make the death painless. She lay there in the snow for a few moments, the icy coldness soothing her almost-healed wounds. It felt so nice, just on the ground. She slowly got to her paws, savouring those last moments of relief, before kicking snow over her prey to hide it from any other animals. The apprentice made her way back to the patrol.

Heatherpetal sighed with relief. They hadn't run into any predators this time. She picked up her thrush and carried it over to where she buried her squirrel. Despite her missing that rabbit, she still caught two pieces of fresh-kill. It had been a good hunt. "Alright, Wisteriapaw and Robinpaw. It's time we headed back to camp. We've gathered enough fresh-kill to feed half the Clan. Great job, the both of you." She dug up her squirrel and grasped it by the tail, then carried it and the thrush back towards camp.
