Heatherpetal had been watching Sunpaw the entire time, just as thrilled as he was when he caught his first prey. When the owl suddenly appeared, he didn't even finish his cry for help before she rushed out of the bushes to slam into the owl's side, claws outstretched and puncturing through its feathers into flesh.

Heatherpetal used Run-and-Tackle, dealing 9 (+3) damage and costing 10 stamina.

The owl struggled away, successfully fended off by the two cats. It flapped its wings frantically, escaping into the sky.

Owl has hit half-health and fled. The battle is over.

Sunpaw huffed at the adrenaline rush and turned to his mentor with warmth in his eyes. "We chased it off! And neither of us got hurt!" He cheered, bumping Heatherpetal with his flank. "Thanks for the help, mo-" His eyes widened in shock. "Heatherpetal." He corrected himself, and his ears burned. "Sorry. I'll, uh, get back to hunting, then?"

Heatherpetal panted softly, thankful there wasn't much bloodshed at all -- except for the owl's of course. She blinked in surprise at Sunpaw's near mistake, then purred affectionately and licked between his ears. "I will always be here for you. Go ahead and continue, you're doing an amazing job so far."

Sunpaw dipped his head and hurried off, embarrassment still burning his cheeks. I can't believe I almost called her mom, he thought. But soon he remembered that he was in a hunting assessment, so he got back to work. He sniffed the air, hoping to catch scent of a nearby rabbit. If he didn't catch this next one, then maybe he would go to Snakerocks instead and come back later; all his failed attempts had probably made the prey around here wary. He spotted a rabbit before he had smelled it, right on the forest's edge. He dropped into a crouch and crept forward. Once he deemed himself close enough, he pounced. The rabbit tried to make a break for it, but only made it a few tail-lengths away before Sunpaw caught up and finished it with a bite to the back of the neck. Sunpaw did a small victory dance before burying the rabbit so that he could come back to pick it up later.

"Alright, so all I need now is a mouse from Snakerocks and a squirrel from the Great Sycamore." Sunpaw said to himself. These would probably be the easiest two of the four catches he had to make. Because the Great Sycamore was closest, Sunpaw decided to go there first. As he went, he found himself passing by the Thunderclan camp, and he heard voices of cats in conversation from within. He smiled warmly. He really loved Thunderclan, and though cats still weren't as happy as they could be, everyone had cheered up a bit from when he was a kit. He continued forward until the murmur of cats faded and he came upon the Great Sycamore. Immediately he spotted a squirrel at the base of the tree, and he stealthily approached the unaware prey. But before Sunpaw could pounce, a raccoon burst out of the underbrush and the squirrel darted away. Apparently the raccoon had been hunting the squirrel as well. Raccoons were dangerous creatures, especially to kits, and Sunpaw wasn't going to let it live long enough to let it turn its sights on a kitten instead. With a fierce caterwaul, Sunpaw sprung from the bushes, tearing into the raccoon's side and latching on tight.

The raccoon wailed at the pain and struggled in Sunpaw's grasp. Sunpaw decided to use the same technique he had used on the owl earlier, tearing his back claws through the raccoon's underbelly.

Heatherpetal's eyes widened when she heard her apprentice's yowling by the Great Sycamore again, and she raced to his aid to find him attacking a raccoon. She dashed as fast as she could out of the trees and slammed into the raccoon at full force, yowling as she attacked.

Heatherpetal used Lightning Strike, dealing 10 damage and costing 15 stamina.

The raccoon hissed at the two cats, backing away as blood welled from its wounds. But it was too stubborn to run, and recognizing Heatherpetal as the greater threat, focused on her. It swiped at her eyes, hoping to blind her.

Heatherpetal yowled in pain and she stumbled back when she felt its claws scoring down her face just below her eyes. If it had struck just inches higher, it would have taken out her eye for sure. Enraged with agony, she reared up on her hind paws to pummel against the raccoon's head, slashing scar after scar into its face.

Sunpaw watched in awe as Heatherpetal lifted onto her hind legs and struck the raccoon, but quickly shook out of it once he remembered the battle wasn't over. He jumped forward as soon as his mentor's front paws touched the ground, and he performed a swift swipe of his claws to the opponent's throat. The raccoon let out a gurgling wail as it fell to the ground, it's life ebbing away as it twitched weakly. Sunpaw would not let this thing hurt any more cats.
