Jaykit's Apprentice Ceremony

Ashstar leapt onto the Tallrock. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" she yowled commandingly.

Jaykit flew from the nursery with his tail and his head held high. This was his day, and he was ready for it.

Ashstar nodded approvingly at the young kit. "Jaykit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Jaypaw. Your mentor will be Brindlewhisker. I hope she will pass down all she knows on to you."

Jaypaw turned towards his own mother and touched her nose. He was ready for training.

Brindlewhisker had spent the better part of the morning frantically grooming her latest litter of kits, desperate to coax their still kit-downy fur into a somewhat presentable state. After what seemed like a lifetime of bouncing back and forth between her duties as a mother and those associated with being Deputy, Ashstar had finally agreed to her request of apprenticing the rambunctious brood. Although it pained her to think that she wouldn't be able to spend nearly as much time with the litter, she took comfort in the notion of overseeing their training.

Striding towards Jaypaw, Brindlewhisker gave her son an affectionate lick between the ears.
